Rise of the Directorate

Final Dawn Central Command
With the collapse of the Core Imperial Confederation many of it’s former planets had fallen into chaos with some gaining independence and others becoming battlefields for the remaining Imperial Warlords trying to form their own mini-empire. On Brentaal IV , the planet has managed to gain independence though they are locked in a conflict with an Imperial Warlord , Lord Spanjaf who himself was trying to establish his own mini-empire from his main base on Corulag.

Unknown to both the people of Brentaal and it’s Imperial Opponent a larger threat lurks in the region having observed the struggle between Brentaal and Spanjaf’s Empire. After Spanjaf was assassinated by unknown agents , his forces withdrew to Corulag where Spanjaf’s Fleet was seized by an Organization known as the Directorate.

Under orders from it’s Leader Maracel Yorkell , Lucius Fendam and his protege Patrice Roundilli have led a Directorate Naval Task Force to the Planet in order to size control of Brentaal IV so that Maracel could gain control over it’s economic assets and expand his empire. With the Fleet of Spanjaf along with a Squadron of Star Destroyers , Lucius and Patrice prepare to finish what Spanjaf started. The Conquest of Brentaal IV.

It was odd, watching the Imperial Star Destroyers stream into the system. Long ago Kelsie had been used to being on board them, being deployed from them. To be completely honest she thought they were terrible ships, and the readings given from Missy told her that they clearly hadn't improved the design in the past eight hundred years. One would expect the lessons of the past would be learned by the many intelligent people that had come in the ages since, but one would be wrong.

Like clockwork the arrival of the former Imperial forces caused a cascade of reactions from Brentaal IV and its defense fleet. Kelsie closed her eyes; she could practically hear the klaxons blaring. Oh, what it was like to strike such fear, to cause such panic. She missed the feeling. Maybe she'd be able to pull it off against the task force that had been arrayed against Brentaal, but that would come later. First, she needed to talk to the Brentaal Houses.

The call came in about two minutes after the opposing fleet had arrived in the system. A little slow, especially considering the dire straits the planet's defenders had found themselves in -- the arrayed firepower of the Imperial fleet and Directorate forces were likely enough to challenge Brentaal's defense fleet. The focus on heavy firepower, in this case, was quite the boon; taking on picket ships and cruisers would be simple enough work, and without too many starfighters to work against it was likely that, should they will it, the attackers would be able to break Brentaal's defenses. It wouldn't be easy, of course, but with a little help they might be able to make this siege hell for their enemies.

Kelsie was a little help.

"Why yes, we do still happen to be in the system. The Paragons would be happy to help you," she replied as one of Brentaal's Houses' representatives begged for their aid. They promised wealth and glory in exchange for help in this fight, but Kelsie didn't really care about that. She was here to make a statement; not just to break some Imperial skulls and keep one of the galaxy's great planets safe and free, but to push the Paragons up a notch. Even if they were forced to withdraw, they'd certainly inflict heavy enough losses on the attackers that they remembered the name of their opponents. Building reputation, in a way. A quiet organization that could turn the tide of battles.

The call ended, and she rubbed her neck from the seat on the bridge of the Carry-On. Everything was already in place -- as soon as she'd heard of the mysterious death of one of the warlords left in the wake of the Core Imperial Confederation she investigated a little further. There weren't many groups who had much to gain from stealing an Imperial's fleet, but she'd guessed that a solid target to hit was Brentaal IV with a force of that size. A little buffing here and there, some allied forces, and soon enough one could be the ruler of one of the galaxy's wealthiest trade worlds. It'd be a whole mess if the young woman hadn't decided to stick around.

Almost eighty Paragons had been gathered; many of which were in the hangars of the Carry-On, but nearly thirty remained on Brentaal's surface in a makeshift camp a few klicks outside of the capital city. The hulking drone freighter itself was hidden behind Brentaal IV's second moon, but with Kelsie's signal the ship lurched forwards, entering sensor range of the oncoming fleet. Weapons charged, drones were launched, Paragons prepared.

Was it bad to want to test herself every once in a while?

(I'm not going to write Brentaal's defense fleet, only the actions of the Paragon forces in the system, which consists of around four squadrons of starfighters, the Carry-On, and a full drone/drop pod complement. I'll link everything in my next post!)

Brentaal Defense Fleet :

Lucius Fendam and his protege were on board of the Dominator , one of the Ships captured by the Directorate after Lord Spanjaf’s assasination at the hands of Directorate Operatives. After the Warlord’s death , the Directorate had moved forth to seize control of it’s assets including his Military Installations on Corulag and Spanjaf’s Fleet. Following this Maracel seeking to increase his power within the Grayson Imperium had sent Lucius and his protege to secure Brentaal IV for the Directorate and seize control of all important assets within the Planet.

Having arrived at Brentaal IV , Lucius encountered the Brentaal IV Defense Fleet composed of 3 Nebulon-A Frigate , 1 Quasar-Carrier and 5 Dreadnought MKII Cruisers and had expected a quick victory but before he could give orders more ships arrived , and instantly Lucius realized that these were not Corellian or Silver Jedi ships and not even ships from the Agents of Chaos. However Lucius knew these ships were not friendly and therefore ordered his forces to prepare for battle.

Launch all Tie Enforcer and Tie Phantom Squadrons , have the Enforcers take on the reinforcements and the Phantoms take care of the Fleet we will harass , the Brentaal Defense Fleet using a new Tactic developed by Maracel Yorkell , The Phantom Swarm. Meanwhile keep the Fleet in Defensive Position until i order otherwise” Immediately 27 Tie Avenger and 27 Tie Phantom Squadrons were deployed with a total of 378 Ships moving out of the hangars of the Directorate Fleet. As ordered the Tie Avengers moved forth to engage with the Reinforcements while the Tie Phantoms activated their cloaking devices and headed straight for the Brentaal Defense Fleet all while the Directorate Fleet would remain idle and await further orders.

The Phantom Swarm was a brilliant tactic developed by Marace Yorkell and Dion Pembell. The Tactic was quite simple. Through the use of Tie Phantoms utilizing Cloaking Devices , 3 quarters of the Tie Phantoms would activate their cloaking devices while the rest covered them by engaging enemy fighters. Once the Cloaked Tie Phantom’s bypassed the enemy fighters and were in range of their target they would decloak and launch attack the Enemy vessel through waves of 2 Squadrons each. Once the Squadrons would complete their attack run they would reactivate their cloaking device and continue the same process again until the ship’s deflector shields were weakened. Once the deflector shields were weak the Star Destroyers would open fire on the enemy fleet and quickly annihilate it.

The Brentaal Defense Fleet unaware of this tactic had not responded remaining on a Defensive Position and waiting for the Directorate’s Forces to deploy their fighters against them. The Directorate did deploy their fighters but not against them but against those who had came in their defense. Then suddenly the the Fleet came under attack. 189 Tie Phantoms deactivated their cloaking devices and split up with 3 Squadrons each launching attacks against each ship and executing the Phantom Swarm tactic.

In response the Brentaal Fleet deployed their fighters but then 9 Tie Phantom Squadrons broke off and moved to engage with the enemy in which only had 9 Squadrons at their disposal. Meanwhile , the Tie Avengers moved to engage with the enemy reinforcements with the Tie Enforcers splitting into 2 groups , the first composed of 20 Squadrons moving forth to engage the Main enemy Fleet while the Second Group of 7 Squadrons moved to engage with the enemy Freighter.
