Daughter of Fen
Fire danced about her, flames so high she could not see clearly beyond them. Every now and then, their was a break and she could see faces she knew beyond them, yet as she stepped towards the, fire engulfed them once more. She prowled the edges of the circle, trying to see through them before giving up and simply stepping into the fire.
Orange tongues licked at her skin, burning away clothes making her skin glow. Fire could not touch her, fire only gave her strength.
And yet the fire was endless...
Long after her clothes had burnt away she was still walking among the amber dancers, still trying to find her way through. The flames dropped leaving nothing but darkness in their wake. She shivered, breath forming small clouds before her face, arms moving to hug herself finding fabric once again against her skin.
"Mia?"
She turned to see him gazing her at her with concern. She hadn't realized just how tense she was until she saw Galeth's face, only then did she breathe a little more easily. She smiled, stepping towards him hand reaching out to take his "Su'cuy." She said softly. He relaxed as her fingers brushed his hand, smiling back in return.
For a moment, the fire was forgotten as their foreheads came together, she let her eyes close relishing in the moment...
Heat blossomed between them and she lifted her head as his face spasmed in pain. Fire rose around them, engulfing them both and the stench of burnt flesh stung her nostrils. She couldn't hear his scream, but as he stumbled back from her trying to put out the flames that scorched flesh, she could feel it. It vibrated in her mind, coiled a cruel hand about her heart and squeezed.
She was vaguely aware of another scream, a scream of desperation. Of fear....
Mia sat bolt upright in her bunk, drenched in sweat and screaming.
