OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To provide an odd and (hopefully) interesting species for Wild Space that can be used for roleplay.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Ripokasta
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Homeworld: Striga
  • Language: Basic, Ripokastan
  • Average Lifespan: 85
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: At first glance, a Ripokasta in full attire might almost appear like a human. The species is clearly Near-Human in most of their appearence, with the main difference being their extremely thin necks and bodies and their faces, that have large, owl-like eyes and a beak-like mouth. Most Ripokasta will attempt to wear larger clothes, so their build and species are not as obvious - they are almost always using masks and hats, as well.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average height of adults: 1.8m
  • Average length of adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Ripokasta can display most of the usual human skin tones, but they tend to be paler thanks to their environment.
  • Hair color: N/A, Ripokasta do not grow any hair whatsoever.
  • Distinctions: In terms of reproduction, growth to maturity and sexual dimorphism, Ripokastans function the same as humans or any Near-Human species, and are even capable of reproducing with other humans or Near-Humans. Their distinctive appearance and attitude sets them vastly apart from most, though.
  • Races: N/A
Strengths:
  • High Force Sensitivity: Ripokasta, though not all being force-sensitive have an unusually high percentage of force-sensitives members of their species, and this has only become more prevalent after the Netherworld Crisis.
  • Night-Vision: Ripokasta have constant night-vision and are able to see perfectly in total darkness.

Weaknesses:
  • Night-Vision: Thanks to their Night-Vision being constant, Ripokasta cannot tolerate much light before they simply cannot see at all; they are particularly susceptible to sudden flashes of light, which can easily stun or disorient them, even permanently damaging their vision.
  • Toothpick: Ripokasta are an incredibly lithe and thin species, weighing much less than the average human and having very little physical strength as a result. Most Ripokastans can be easily outmuscled by even the average joe.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Thanks to their mouth and neck, Ripokasta are unable to consume most common solid foods. Ripokastans will usually eat seed-based foods or a liquefied version of another food, and must often drink in very small amounts to avoid choking.
  • Communication: Most Ripokasta use their native language, which consists of various chirps and coos. At the same time, many of the species speak Basic with relative ease, though usually with very quiet, whispy and high-pitched voices.
  • Technology level: Ripokasta have technology equivalent to Galactic Standard, though go out of their way to make it look like older designs.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Ripokasta have an unusual set of beliefs compared to most - they believe that the large birds on their world are messengers from what they call the 'Elder One', a deific figure that appears to be pictured as an odd amalgamation of avian and sea creatures. They believe gargantuan beings, particularly those of an aquatic nature are avatars of this Elder One and should be worshipped or given regular tribute in the form of material possessions or food, to stave off retribution from them. The Elder One is not seen in an entirely positive light, but it is believed that if the Ripokasta stop paying this being tribute, an apocalyptic event will take place. Ripokasta believe that their face must remain hidden from the Elder One to prevent offense, and so are almost always seen wearing masks or other headwear that entirely obscures their features.
  • General behavior: Ripokasta are nocturnal, and are rarely seen during the regular daytime of most species. Ripokasta value intelligence and wisdom as the highest pursuits, and see spirituality and the fear of mysterious, superior beings as part of this. Generally, Ripokasta family units consist of at least four members; 2 male and 2 female adults. It is seen as proper for children to not know their biological parents so they will not value their genes, but the actions of their carers. This is also due to the Ripokasta idea of hiding your identity behind a mask, and to hide the identity of a child's parent from them. The Ripokasta highly value architecture and design, and have intricate, massive cityscapes with winding patterns and extravagant, ancient-looking buildings. Generally, the Ripokasta do not trust outsiders, and are very unwilling to share information with them and can seem quite skittish and odd as a result.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Though it isn't known entirely what happened, the Ripokasta are believed to be the descendants of human colonists who left Naboo thousands of years previously. It is believed that some event took place that mutated or somehow 'changed' the colonists within the last several centuries, turning them into the Ripokasta. The Ripokasta are known to have existed before their massive, sprawling cities built to resemble old 'gothic' architecture and mention gargantuan creatures stalking the planet of Striga. It is believed that their large, walled cities are designed to protect them from these threats.

At some point, many of the Ripokasta took to worshipping a deity that was dubbed 'The Elder One'. This being is credited by most of the population as being what protected them from the great monsters that attacked their cities and cast them away to the recesses of inside the world. Generally, the Ripokasta's different cities are very similar and have similar ideals, with only slightly different ideas on how to worship The Elder One or how to live. This has rarely resulted in conflict, with only small skirmishes between the enforcers of each city occuring now and again, and not being openly acknowledged.

The Ripokasta have advanced in technology to a rapid pace, catching up with the rest of the galaxy in quite a short span of time - they have since plateaued, staying at this same galactic standard of technology. Not much else is known of the Ripokasta or their history, since it is believed to be quite short compared to most species and their own unwillingness to divulge information. Along with this, they rarely travel from their homeworld, out from under the gaze of their Elder One.
