Intent: To make a first item for Phylis’ Alkahest (light alchemy) shop. This item is individually created and attuned to a single person. Whilst it does give powers, it is far from a ticket to mental invulnerability and is balanced by clear weaknesses.
Development Thread: Yes
Alkahest brainstorming thread.
Development of this ring.
Manufacturer: Phylis Alince
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Phylis Alince, the buyer.
Modularity: The metal of the ring can be changed. Bronze was used in Kaida Taldir’s ring, but silver, gold or platinum could also be used, as could iron or other metals. It can also take the form of an amulet around the neck, with the ring being replaced by a metal oval.
Production: Semi-Unique – each ring is made personally by Phylis, and requires a dev thread with the buyer to make each one.
Material: Metal (bronze in this case, but others are possible), energised crystal fragments, blood from buyer.
Description:
Phylis Alince’s recent discovery about the ability to use the Light Side to create alchemical effects led to the establishment of her shop. The very first item she created was a ring to help protect [member="Kaida Taldir"] from mental attacks.
Sith alchemy, for thousands of years, has possessed the ability to enchant and infuse items with powers. This include amulets able to protect and ward the wearer. This precedent, using the Dark Side no less, gave Phylis hope that she could create a Light Side version even more suited to protection. For whilst the Dark is good at attack and destruction, the Light is strongest when being used for protection.
The construction method is as following. Please note, this writer is not a blacksmith or metallurgist, so any mistakes in the process must be put down to writer error.
This ring’s primary function is to boost the bearer’s mental defences against external threats. It can boost one’s abilities by approximately one ‘rank’, so a Padawan could resist like a Knight and so on. However, there are important qualifications.

The construction method is as following. Please note, this writer is not a blacksmith or metallurgist, so any mistakes in the process must be put down to writer error.
- Metal of choice put in the furnace.
- Blood taken from buyer, a small amount.
- Force sensitive crystal ground up and energised.
- Molten metal poured into mould along with some of the energised crystal and blood.
- Ring is cooled and removed from mould, touched up and polished.
- Surface is engraved as requested by buyer, remaining blood and energised crystal added.
- Desired Light Side Force energy channelled into ring.
- Buyer attunes with the ring to bind it to them.
This ring’s primary function is to boost the bearer’s mental defences against external threats. It can boost one’s abilities by approximately one ‘rank’, so a Padawan could resist like a Knight and so on. However, there are important qualifications.
- The ring amplifies one’s mental defences rather than doing it by itself. Thus the wearer must be concentrating to make use of the ring.
- The ring boosts one’s strength, but by no means creates an unbreakable shell. A strong mentalist can penetrate even this ring’s additional strength. This is especially true in the case of a mentally focused master taking on another master without such training.
- Phylis has not yet mastered the ability to render alkahest metals invulnerable like Sith alchemy. Though it is toughened compared with regular bronze, it can still be destroyed by a hammer or fire for instance.
- The ring is attuned to one person only. Another person putting it on would be unable to use it effectively.
- As the ring is constructed using Light energies, a Dark adept putting it on will be at best unable to use it, at worst suffer a nasty rash.
- As Force light can disenchant or destroy many alchemical options, so this item can be destroyed or corrupted by the Dark. It would require it to be not on the owner's body, and the focus of a Master level Dark Sider, but it could be done with little real difficulty.
