Intent: To create a symbol of committed membership in the Lords of the Fringe, with moderate and situational utility (a Force-based locator function usable by only one specific seeker, and a night vision effect)
Development Thread: Sith Amulet creation experience (for another submission by another RP'er, denied and not resubmitted) - http://starwarsrp.net/topic/14161-creation-of-the-nether-amulets/
Manufacturer: Iron Crown Productions, alchemy division
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Lords of the Fringe
Modularity: No
Production: Minor (a couple of dozen or less)
Material: Alchemized durasteel, polished Kaiburr crystal shard
Description: The ring is primarily a symbol of membership, given to Fringers who have worked for the faction. The Kaiburr Crystal itself being in the secure possession of Spencer Jacobs and Ashin Varanin, some of the many dozens of canon shards of the Kaiburr were also collected from the Temple of Pomojema at the time. These shards have been rock-tumbled and polished down to roundness. The resulting stone, as per canon descriptions of the power of a shard of the Kaiburr crystal, has the following effects.

  • At the Temple of Pomojema on Mimban, it significantly enhances Force-based senses and slightly enhances Force power.
  • Anywhere else on Mimban, it moderately enhances Force-based senses.
  • Anywhere outside of that star system, it has no effect, power, or quality other than the symbolic. If removed from the ring, it could serve as a decent lightsabre focusing crystal. This crystal, if removed from the ring for lightsabre use, would have no special properties or confer any effect upon the blade or its user, although such a lightsabre would retain the blood trail effect noted hereafter.

Each ring's metal was forged with the blood of Ashin Varanin, resulting in a Nightsister blood trail; in other words, the ring can be tracked and found by Ashin across any distance, with enough time and effort, unless it is inside a ysalamir field. A Nightsister blood trail, and the presence of the blood, canonically cannot be sensed by others (a detail not noted in the bare-minimum Wook article, but essential to the plot of several Fate of the Jedi novels), and Ashin's use of that power is not public knowledge. An in-depth scan will reveal the ring to be nothing more than a ring.

The ring does not have a Dark Side presence of any kind. Virtually indestructible as the alchemical metal is, its maker's advanced alchemical arts have allowed her to adjust its Force presence until it cannot be sensed as a source of the Dark Side. This is a minor Force Disperser effect, insufficient to mask the Force presence of the wearer or surrounding artifacts, but exactly sufficient to mask the ring as a source of the Dark Side.

The ring is a very minor Sith Amulet with exactly one function: It allows its wearer to see in the dark (a known effect of some simple alchemies and spells), though not differentiate colors. The ring will not increase or store its wearer's power like a normal Sith Amulet. As noted above, it cannot be improved or modified.

1) Please link all canon sources.
2) Elaborate on the effects of using this ring/crystal as part of constructing a lightsaber

This in particular needs a canon reference. Failing such a justification, a development thread will be needed.

  • All canon citations linked, including the Force Disperser to mask the ring's presence.
  • The note about non-Force Sensitives experiencing the effects of Sith Amulets was removed, as the canon source has apparently been retconned.
  • The non-effects of using a Kaiburr shard as a focusing crystal are elaborated upon in the linked article, but I've included this clarification-
