Character Rhys Darklighter

ᴄᴏʀᴇʟʟɪᴀ'ꜱ ꜰɪɴᴇꜱᴛ

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
[+] Piloting- Flying has always been the one thing Rhys never struggled with. Years spent hauling freight across the Core and Outer Rim have given him exceptional instincts behind the controls of a starship. Whether navigating crowded hyperspace lanes or threading through asteroid fields, he remains calm under pressure and trusts his instincts above all else.

[+] Mechanical Aptitude- Owning an aging freighter means repairs are a constant part of life. Rhys has learned to maintain engines, patch hull breaches, and keep outdated systems functioning with salvaged parts and whatever tools happen to be available. His ship may not be pretty, but he knows every bolt holding it together.

[+] Charming- Rhys is naturally personable and easy to like. He has a quick wit, an easy smile, and a talent for putting strangers at ease. Whether negotiating a freight contract or sharing a drink in a cantina, he finds conversation comes easier than conflict.

[-] The Hunger- Since awakening from the abandoned medical station, Rhys has developed an unnatural craving for blood. He survives on ethically sourced medical supplies whenever possible, but he fears the day those will no longer satisfy whatever he has become.

[-] Ignorant of His Nature- Rhys has no idea what happened to him. Every new ability is accompanied by another unanswered question, leaving him to learn through trial and error while hoping he doesn't discover his limits too late.

[-] Old Freighter- His ship is dependable only because of constant maintenance. Breakdowns, failing systems, and expensive repairs are a regular part of life, leaving Rhys perpetually short on credits and always chasing the next honest job.

[-] Compassionate- Rhys has a habit of helping people, even when common sense tells him otherwise. It was that instinct that ultimately changed his life forever, and despite everything, he struggles to ignore those in need.

BIOGRAPHY:
Rhys Darklighter was born on Corellia to a family of honest working spacers. His father hauled freight throughout the Core Worlds while his mother worked in the shipyards of Coronet City repairing docking equipment and maintaining civilian vessels. He grew up surrounded by cargo containers, engine grease, and the endless traffic of starships coming and going from the planet's bustling ports. Flying was never simply a dream. It was the one thing that always came naturally to him.

Rather than pursuing military service or joining one of Corellia's larger shipping companies, Rhys chose the uncertain life of an independent spacer. He spent several years working aboard freighters before eventually scraping together enough credits to purchase an aging light freighter of his own. The ship was old, unreliable, and constantly in need of repairs, but it gave him something no employer ever could. Freedom. Rhys made a modest living hauling cargo, transporting passengers, and accepting whatever honest contracts paid enough to keep his ship flying while quietly saving for something newer.

That life changed after responding to what appeared to be an ordinary distress call. Rhys recovered a gravely wounded traveler drifting through space and attempted to bring them to safety, never realizing the stranger was far more than they appeared. Before medical assistance could be reached, Rhys suffered wounds that should have killed him outright. Refusing to let him die, the stranger bestowed upon him a dark gift before disappearing from his life entirely.

When Rhys finally awoke, he found himself alone inside an abandoned medical station suspended within a cryostasis chamber. His injuries had vanished, the facility had long since been deserted, and there was no sign of the individual responsible for saving him. With no memory of the events that followed his injuries, Rhys returned to his ship believing he had survived through little more than extraordinary luck.

The changes revealed themselves slowly. Food gradually lost its taste. Wounds healed with unnatural speed. His senses sharpened beyond anything he had previously experienced, while an unfamiliar hunger settled deep within him that refused to be satisfied by ordinary means. Unsure whether he suffered from some unknown illness or the side effects of experimental treatment, Rhys quietly began purchasing medically sourced blood through legitimate channels simply to satisfy whatever his body had become. For now, it has been enough.

Rhys now wanders the galaxy much as he always has, taking freight contracts and odd jobs wherever they can be found. The difference is that every destination carries another rumor, another lead, or another unanswered question. He does not know what happened inside that abandoned station, nor does he know the name of the creature responsible for saving his life. He only knows that something inside him grows hungrier with each passing day, and if he does not discover the truth soon, he fears there may come a day when ethically sourced blood will no longer be enough.
