Restoring Carlac's Faith in Mandalore (UCM Dominion of Carlac)

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Carlac.

It's history with Mandalore ran deep. But not in a good way. Slave raids, slave camps, Death Watch; all of it made a rightful rift against the two peoples. The Ming Po now had an inherant mistrust for the Mandalorians, most especially with the latter's known alliance with the Sith Empire.

But unlike the Sith, and unlike the rumours that abound, the Mandalorians under [member="Yasha Cadera"] were not slavers. Many Mandalorians had helped to liberate and disrupt the slave trade when they could.

Kay was a Mandalorian, adopted into Clan Raxis long ago. But she wasn't one that fought in their battles. In truth she followed her own path outside of Mandalore. Recently however, circumstances brought her to the company of the Clans. Rather than partake in the battles that plague them, she sought to help the collective in other ways.

Carlac was in between the Sith Empire and Mandalorian territory. With the former gaining territory every day, Kay decided to get to Carlac first and try to have the Ming Po protected. With her niece's blessing, she took a convoy with her to aid her in this quest. She hoped to help turn the tide for Mandalore while she sought refuge here from the Sith.

Helping Carlac was the first step.

OBJECTIVES:

-1- Carlac Death Watch Camp: Explore and look for Death Watch artifacts.

-2- Ming Po Town: Burned down years ago, it has since been rebuilt in the same manner that it once was. Help with fortifications and shielding to keep it as an important heritage site.

-3- Hidden Slaver's Camp: The Ming Po were a trusting people, but not so trusting when it came to Mandalorians. Women were still being kidnappedd by slavers. Find the hidden slaver's camp and rescue the slaves. Take them to the Ming Po chiefs so that trust can be restored between the two peoples.

Objective 3

The Basilisk slowly flew over the surface of Carlac, flanked by a pair of TwinTails, one red and one camo. They were looking for slaver camps, ready to take out those all to willing to take others into slavery. Mig watched from the bridge, just waiting.

"Come on. I know your out there somewhere you demagolka."

The mission was clear to Ruus. They had been charged with assisting in locating the slaver camp, rescuing the victims, and if necessary to eliminate the criminals should capture not be possible. His group of Mandalorian Guard officers were to work with any allied forces to do so.

The investigation began with meeting with the families of the presumably enslaved Ming Po in an attempt to create a pattern of similarities between locations, times, and methods. Any information that he could gather could potentially reveal a lead as to where the slavers preferred to kidnap the Ming Po. Ruus conducted his investigations with professionalism and sincerity, however, many of the Ming Po were not willing to cooperate fully with the investigation as many still had a deep seated mistrust of the Mandalorians.

After the interviewing period of the investigation Ruus and the rest of the Guard took to the Airspeeders and followed Mig Gred's search. Ruus and the Guard were not heavily armed. With basic law enforcement gear they could easily be out gunned should the slavers be equipped with blaster carbines, blaster rifles, or thermal detonators.

Carlac, Adenn had heard of the ice planet in his early years. It was supposedly a nice place, if you could survive the cold weather, and weren't a Mandalorian. Apparently the Death Watch had attacked and destroyed a settlement on the planet during the Clone War, something that Adenn disliked. Then again, he and his men had attacked random places before, but not so totally and destructively, especially not without proper reason. Not that his dislike mattered, what mattered was getting the people of Carlac to lose their dislike of the Mandalorians. It was important for the UCM that they get it back, so Adenn had decided to help with it.

As much as Adenn wanted to go kill some slavers, he knew that getting good relations with the people of Carlac was just as important. That's why he found himself preparing for rebuilding rather than war. Sighing to himself, Adenn looked over those with him. These Mandalorians were engineers and scholars more so than warriors and fighters. That's not to say they wouldn't be able to fight on their own, they could put most non Mandalorians to shame in that regard. However, they were simply better at non fighting things than usual. Thus they had been chosen to help with building the defenses of the Ming Po town.

That would be rather symbolical, Adenn thought to himself, and it should show the people of Carlac that the Mandalorians were apologizing. Frowning slightly, Adenn thought of different ways to say that, rather than to apologize. Sighing once more, Adenn resolved to distract himself with something else. Turning to his men, Adenn made his way towards them to assist in loading up the needed supplies for the planet and its defense.

Where Reyn was excited beyond all possible excitement for the day to come, his older sister was far less glowing. Sighing heftily in her corner of the ship, Adara poured and looked up at two of her Infernis guards.

“Auntie Kay wants us to restore their faith in Mandalorians? But I don’t restore faith in Mandalorians anyway. I’m like... the anti-Mando.” Another hefty sigh and Adara went back to her studies. Reyn was a fountain of energy.

[member="Aditya Fitz Kierke"] grinned and nudged Adara with her elbow. “So’m I, sweet pea. Get it from me, I reckon. Best thing, too, we rebels make amazing things nobody else thinks about. Now, git up! Stop your moping and help Grandma with these plans, hey? C’mon!”

Aditya slung her arm over Adara’s shoulders as they both exited the supply freighter and joined Adenn. Grimacing slightly, Adara looked up at the Mandalorian man, who very recently became her grandfather.

“Yes ba’buir... gosh where’s Ram’ika when I need him?” Adara hefted the bag over her shoulder.

Carlac was close enough to the Sith border Tamar wondered if she were unladylike, could she spit on it. Dressed in her beskar’gam, a medic’s bag across her shoulders the former Sith slave stood on the deck of the ship. Women enslaved... her own complicated past behind her, Tamar sighed under her buy’ce and crossed her arms over her chest.

“When we find them, I’ll help get them out. They may need... a friendly face.” How quick would she take her helmet off if the women asked her to? Maybe she should have worn a dress, or combat trousers, but the idea of going unprotected into a battle was becoming more and more distasteful the longer she spent in Mandalorian life.

Mig looked over at Tamar, putting an arm around her. He knew this had to be a tough one for her, given her own history, and he could feel the struggle she was having. He wished he could help her, but the only way he could think of was stop the slavers.

"I know you will. Me an the other will take care of the slavers." The comms then crackled alive as one of the TwinTail pilots called in.

"Alor, I got something ahead. Going to do a fly over."

"Ok. Tell us what you see." The camo painted fighter then veered off, and flew towards what looked like some tents. The craft winged over, allowing the pilot to get a better look. It seemed like a normal camp at first, but the fighter decided to pull one more pass. It was then that a some blaster bolts shot up from camp. The fighter rolled, taking a few hits to the shield.

"Hostiles! Can't identify if anyone's being held here though." Mig quickly turned to R10, quickly getting into a seat.

"R10 get us to the ground!" The astromech let out some deep toned binary as he landed the freighter behind a large snow drift. Mig turned to Tamar as he got up, while O7 quickly whistled to the fighters to hold fire until targets could be confirmed.

"You ready for this, Tamar?"

Auburn sat aboard her ship, waiting. She had been informed of the Mandalorian's attempts to improve relationships with the Ming Po of Carlac, and was curious. The Queen had only been off Domhanda once before, and if she was to become a better ruler, she must learn of the galaxy beyond her world. To her surprise, [member="Thror Cal Vorn"] had been on Domhanda when she was on her way to the space port, and she snatched him up as a temporary bodyguard for this excursion of hers. She only hoped her winter clothing would be enough for the apparently cold climate of Carlac.

As the ship landed, Auburn smiled and entered her more diplomatic state of mind. Eyes forward, back straight, walk like you own the planet. [member="Niamh Jones"]' posture lessons rang clear in Auburn's head as she exited the ship. Her footsteps crunched in the snow, and her coat trailed behind her slightly as she walked towards the village. She could tell that it had seen better days, and a slight frown distorted her lips.

"We should find the others, see what we can do to help." Auburn glanced at her companion, as they walked, and waited for his response.

“Ba’buuuiiir? I don’t think the Ming Po like us very muuuuuch.” Adara sunk back beside Aditya, nibbling on her lower lip. “I’m getting that lynch mob sensation.”

She gasped as her father stomped on the picture of the Death Watch man, sinking even closer to Aditya. Even though she wasn’t dressed in Beskar’gam, Adara felt every bit of the tensions around her… it was just usually all centred around her.

“Umm… Ah… yeah, maybe I left the bag on the ship.” Going to turn around, Adara was stopped by Aditya hugging her in and lowering her lips to Adara’s mahogany hair.

“Move and we’re dead, baby girl. We’re here to build confidence, not run like womp rats in the desert sands. Chin up, think of it like walkin’ into gym class on dodge ball day.” Aditya kissed the top of Adara’s head, and gave her a nudge. The girl dressed in a burgundy velvet dress with spider silk underdress smiled at Auburn and gave a little wave, walking forward and taking her brother Reyn’s hand.

“Please… we just want to help.”

As Thror sat on the ship next to [member="Auburn Sioda"] he couldn't believe where he was. He was on Domhanda following a lead on one of his sisters, when a very regal looking Anam approached him Introduced her slef a Queen [member="Auburn Sioda"] and asked him to join her on a mission to Carlac to help rebuild a settlement there, he accepted.

As the ship landed Thror observed his companion get herself ready to venture into the unknown. He checked his armor ensuring that the hastily made modifications for cold weather were sufficient. Stepping out of the craft Auburn turned to him.

"We should find the others, see what we can do to help."

"You're the boss milady." and followed her to the village

Although Ruus hadn't been communicated with on what had occurred he and the other Guard noticed the blaster bolts flying through the air "Lower." he told his comrades as he moved his airspeeder closer to the ground. The Buirk'alor airpseeders were not armed and they would be easier targets the higher they were.

The three airspeeder's sirens screamed to life as the red and blue flashers blinked in tandem. It was not a stealthy approach to be sure. However the element of surprise if they had it in the first place had surely been lifted. The trio of patrol speeders ripped through the new snow until they were just over one hundred yards away where they stopped. The cockpit doors slid back and the 12 officers including Ruus jumped out with shields facing the direction of the camp. Ruus reached inside and pulled out a small tubular device which he spoke into, broadcasting his voice from the now parked airspeeder "In the name of the Mand'Alor, and by the desire of the Ming Po, lay down your arms and release the prisoners! Surrender now! You are outmatched." Ruus believed the safest approach to this situation was to approach at least from a point of negotiation. If the enslaved Ming Po were in fact at this site, they would be easily taken hostage or become shields for the slavers.

Ruus put the device in his left hand and reached up with his right to speak to namely [member='Mig Gred'] "Try to negotiate with them for the release of the victims. There's no point in being here if we cause civilian deaths."

Objective: 2

An hour before the Mandalorians arrived, Kay's transport landed well outside of the Ming Po town. The falling snow provided a good cover. Just what level of technology the Ming Po had, she wasn't certain. But from what little information she coukd find, it didn't seem like they explored outside of their own planet very much. So landing five kilometers away seemed to be good enough of a distance to not be discovered.

Dressed for the climate, Kay exited the transport with a few of her Eternal Guard in tow. They weren't wearing their armour, but dressed for the climate as well. As much as they wanted to be in full armour protection, their Empress thought it best to be the least intimidating as possible. They weren't here for war but to keep them from getting taken over by the Sith. At least that was Kay's goal. Under the Mandalorian banner the Sith wouldn't dare kidnap their citizens for slavery or worse. It was the same kind of protection that she had.

Walking through the snow towards the town took some time as the snow was deep. The tranquility of the area seemed to be an illusion however. Or maybe that was because they were outsiders.

After some time they came across some movement in the trees just fifty feet ahead of them. All four of them halted. Kay spoke under her breath, "No weapons. Not yet. It could just be an animal." After a moment's pause the movement came again. Walking out of the trees came a small boy. He stared at them for a moment, looking scared, exhausted and cold. Then he fainted, his body collapsing in the snow.

Maternal instincts kicked in and Kay ran towards him, removing her shawl and covering him with it.
"Where did you come from? Are you lost?" The boy turned his head to look up at her, but said nothing. Perhaps he didn't understand basic or maybe he was just too scared to talk. It could even be both. Either way, she lifted him up and cradled him in her arms. "We'll take him to the town and see if they know him. We're closer to it than we are to the transport. The sooner he can warm up, the better."

Without another word, Kay carried the boy towards the town, holding him close to her. The other Mandalorian vessels were in clear view. She squinted her eyes to see if she could see what was happening. So far it seemed calm. So far. Hopefully that would last.

She sighed and cleared her mind, knowing full well the condition many slaves were kept in were nothing like the austere, but comfortable quarters she endured under House Zambrano. They were in for it, with more than stray shots on the bough.

Gripping [member="Mig Gred"]’s shoulder for a moment, she held herself up from the shockwave of the shots taken against their boughs. A fear tactic? The chance to show their bravado?

“Yes, I’m ready.” Fixing the medical bag on her shoulder, and shifting her medical shield emitter, Tamar nodded. “We’re going to save these women, then you and I are going to save some time for ourselves… c’yare.”

Nudging her forehead to his for a quick Keldabe Kiss, Tamar disconnected and set to the hangar. A Mandalorian she’d never seen before took point. Yes. This was it. Without a single worry for her own safety, Tamar exited the ship and checked around the corner. Once she was sure she wouldn’t get shot at, she rushed to cover, beskar’gam painted in the white and red of a medic.

“I am a medic. Use me as we need… I know what these women are going through. Many of them will probably not exit their containment areas without a gentle prod. Safer in confinement with their sisters, than vulnerable and alone outside.” Tamar used the open channel to communicate with @Russ and the others, voice level and grim.

Auburn smiled at little Adara as she walked through the village towards the Mandalorians. The Queen could feel the atmosphere in the village. The Mandalorians were unwelcome. Never the less, the Queen's smile stayed upon her face, until she saw a dark-haired woman carrying a child in a blanket. Auburn's smile turned into a frown of worry as she hefted up the front of her coat and dress, and rushed over.

"Pardon me, but is he cold? I'm a pyromancer, I can warm him up easily." As if to show her skill, Auburn held up a hand, and a small flame formed. Nothing bigger than her hand, of course. Didn't want to scare the poor lad.

Once the slavers saw the flashing lights of the speeders, they sought cover inside of their camp. What better safety net was there? It had been decades since anyone had tried to stop them. The Ming Po chiefs did what little they could. More often than not, they had to buy some of their women back. Why lose money because of morality? It never fed one's belly.

Yes, they were outnumbered. But they also had the element of surprise. The Mandalorians didn't know much about the camp and it's layout. They could only hazard a guess as to what was inside of each tent.

"This ain't your business, Mandalorians." One man shouted from inside of one of the tents. The barrel of his blaster rifle poked out from one of the flaps. "Go home." If they were Deathwatch they'd of sacked the camp, regardless of the people inside. But these Mandalorians were hesitant.

Good.

Walking through the village Thror say a group of mandos. He had taken of his helmet, even thought it had a multitude of sensors, He preferred to not wear it if he didn't have to. He noticed Auburn smile at a young girl, when he looked at her she looked normal except for her eyes. Which were black with red irises, He thought it to be strange but the a gain the galaxy is a strange place. He gave the little girl a smile, after all he had a soft spot for children.

He noticed a woman carrying a child in a blanket a rushed of with Auburn,. As they approached he heard he say something about pyromancy and a look of shock crossed his face when fire suddenly covered her hand

Mig smiled at [member="Tamar Fitz Kierke"], happy to share a Keldabe Kiss before heading the the hanger. He quickly said "That sounds good to me, Ner Kar'ta" as he followed her down, followed by V1 as the flat headed astromech followed behind the pair. He then heard [member="Ruus"] over the channel, and listened to Tamar's response before responding himself.

"Tamar has a point, but I have a possible idea. We wanna negotiate, maybe it'll be best to play dumb?" Mig then gripped his weapons, tossing them into the snow where the men at the camp could see it, and walked out slowly, V1 in tow. "Hey guys. We're just here looking for slavers. If y'all ain't them, sorry, but maybe you could give use a hand?" As Mig said this he kept his senses trained on the men, trying to feel them through the Force.

“Auntie Kay! Oh no, is he wounded?” Adara kept a firm hold on Reyn’s hand as she looked over at her Great-Aunt Kay hold the Ming Po boy. The more she looked at the boy, the more Adara felt his life force. How easy it would be to take, with the rate it was slipping away. Less and less time to live.

Nibbling her bottom lip, Adara stepped another step away from the dwindling child. Being near such a frail child would only end his life sooner if Yasha’s firstborn wasn’t careful.

“Daddy… The Ming Po are scared, but… they’re worried about the boy. We… um… goodness what do we do?” Stepping forward, Adara watched as some of the towns people crept out of their homes. “H-hello. We’re not Death Watch, we’re nothing like them… we have supplies and my Dad is a really good engineer, and so is my Grandma over there, and we’re going to help protect you if you let us.”

The boy… he was slipping. Adara fought against licking her lips.

With Mig around, Tamar had not a single concern for herself. Her concern lived for the women in the slave camp, holed up and demeaned for profit. The idea made her sick, but she dare not spit in her helmet.

Only a new Mandalorian would spit in their helm… it was terrible to clean up, Tamar discovered, the one time she did it by accident. Another good part of a basic Mandalorian helmet was the Heads-Up Display. Usually laden with useful and handy things, most Buy’ce’s included… infrared scanners.

Tamar triggered hers with a blink, and scanned the tents. Heat signatures blossomed in the tents, some warmer, with cold spots shaped in geometric array, oblong and pointed. Others huddling together, their outer mass cooler, less protected from the elements. Tamar ground her teeth.

“We are here for the missing women, and we will not be leaving this planet, until they are returned to us, safe and unharmed. There is no ‘going home’ without my fellow ladies in our care. So. Where are they?” Commanding and cold, Tamar surprised even herself with how she could speak up if pressed. Smashing her lips together in concentration, Tamar began to walk forward. “You broker information, you must know where they are.”

Ruus was right. They did need to be cautious of their safety.

Finishing up with the packing only takes a few more minutes, but soon enough it's done. Then they head down to the planet in a light freighter. Landing quickly, Adenn leaves the ship and simply observes the people there at first. Shortly thereafter though, Aditya and Adara come along. He smiles to the both of them before Keldabe kissing Aditya and patting Adara on the head. Chuckling slightly, Adenn offers Adara a piece of chocolate before returning his attention to the settlement.

Even as this happened, Clan Mortui warriors began removing boxes from the freighter and lining them up. There were different sections heaters, furniture, clothes, defenses, and more. Adenn didn't pay attention to that though, he was focused on Kaine and the little act he'd just pulled. Smiling, Adenn made a mental note to do his own later, mainly burn the poster. Not only that, but Adenn observed Auburn and Thror curiously. He kew Auburn through Dom hand a but not the Mando with her (Thror).

When Adara wanted to head back to the ship, Adenn stood in her way, along with Aditya stopping her. Retreat in such a manner wasn't an option. But she seemed to suck it up thanks to Aditya. Smiling again, he patted her head before continuing to observe everyone. Around then Kay appeared and Adenn pondered on what to do, then he noted how they were being taken care of, while Adara seemed to be struggling. He knew of her condition and decided to step in and help.

Smiling grimly behind his helmet, Adenn whispered that to Aditya that he loved her before going to Adara. Kneeling down before her, he smiled behind his helmet before speaking.
"How would you like to help me?" Turning to include Reyn, "both of you?" Reyn sort of shook his head while looking at Kaine, and Adenn understood. He wanted to help his father, which was fine with Adenn.

Nodding his understanding, Adenn turned to Adara before sweeping her up and sitting her on his shoulders.
"Well then adiik, what do you think we should do first to help these people? Adenns tone was jovial and fun, intending him to sound happy and ready for anything. Which he was though right now he was focused on distracting Adara from her hunger.
