OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To design a piece of tech to be used in a new Unique vessel

- Model: Resolve-class Shield Caster
- Modularity: No
Production: Unique
- Material: Durasteel, Isotope-5, Shield Generator Components
- The Resolve Shield Caster is capable of creating a large shield bubble around the ship it is mounted on, protecting all ships within its grasp from enemy fire. However, due to design flaws the RSC can be mounted on an SSD and function perfectly, but cannot shield a second SSD.
- The Wall: The shield is designed to withstand the toughest bombardments, greatly increasing the survivability of the ships within its reach.
- Long-Range: The Resolve Shield Caster, while not able to project across an entire battlefield, is capable of shielding a large number of ships.
- Iso-5: The RSC is designed with Isotope-5 power cores embedded in the structure, allowing the shield to maintain full effectiveness in the event of the host ship's reactor going offline.
- Focused Fire: The Shield is strong enough that it would require focused fire from most weapons to breach (Allowing shots to pass through a gap in the shielding), and sustained fire from many weapons to break (Forcing the shield to go offline entirely).
- Wind up: The RSC takes a few minutes to charge up.
- Fighters incoming: The shield is designed exclusively for ship-to-ship fire, meaning Starfighters can pass through the shields unhindered.
- SSD Interference: Shielding units for ships larger than 5,000 can interfere with the RSC, meaning that it can only effectively shield a single SSD.
- Huge: The first of its kind, the Resolve was designed as a proof of concept, assuming that space is not an issue. As such, it cannot be mounted effectively on anything shy of a Dreadnought.
- Overload: If the RSC attempts to compensate to shield a second Dreadnought sized ship, the RSC will overload and the bubble will collapse, forcing a reset of the system in order to bring the RSC back online.
- Stationary: The RSC must remain stationary while the shield is active, otherwise the shield will break.
- What Goes Around Comes Around: The shield prevents heavy fire, but the drawback is preventing any ship within the RSC range from firing through the shield as well.
Shortly after the Battle of Kuat, Voph visited John Locke with a request. He needed a shield generator. He didn't say why, and he stressed that details were only to be shared on an as-needed basis. He promised a large sum of cash, and use of offshoots of the design for his assistance in building it. The result was the Resolve Shield Caster, effectively a shield generator capable of protecting a large area of space. Locke voiced some concerns at the size of the unit, but Voph assured him that the device served its function perfectly. The one design flaw that the RSC was unable to overcome was an issue with shield resonance frequencies caused by Dreadnought sized shields. While a single shielding unit would not affect the RSC, a second Dreadnought Shield would cause a feedback loop in the RSC, overloading its systems and tripping the automatic shutdown features, installed to prevent the RSC from overtaxing and subsequently destroying itself. The other major drawback, as with all shields, is that it does not prevent incursion from smaller vessels such as starfighters. Overall, the design was deemed acceptable, and the finishing touches were placed on the RSC with plans to begin producing smaller models for more widespread deployment.
