The Republic Intelligence Services was the intelligence and security branch of the Republic. It makes up the Ministry of Intelligence with its Director reporting directly to the Minister. The RIS it's self is made up of two separate branches, The Security of Internal Affairs(SIA) and the Office of Naval Intelligence(ONI).
The Security of Internal Affairs (SIA) served as the law enforcement and internal intelligence branch of the Republic Intelligence Services. The SIA was the umbrella organization of the Coruscant Security Force as well as other civilian law enforcement groups in Republic space. This branch of RIS directly coordinates with the Republic's Spectre division, overseeing joint operations of public events and meetings. Special operatives coordinate and lead teams in these cases, while SIA acts as a supporting force to coordinate with. These combined missions are usually held for the utmost security and efficiency in protection and defense. Meetings amongst the Chief of State or the attending appearance of political allies or honored guests.
The Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) is a division of the Republic Navy that is responsible for counter-espionage and propaganda. Although it is under the jurisdiction of the Navy, ONI reports directly to the Republic Intelligence Services. It is responsible for intelligence matters across the Republic. As such, ONI employs members of other military branches, and even civilians, to complete the Division's shadowy work. Many of its functions and subdivisions, like the N7 Division, are enigmatic, and its personnel are regarded as mysteries by mainstream naval officers. ONI personnel, especially officers, are often referred to as "spooks". Agents appear to enjoy significant latitude in the discharge of their duties, often violating moral boundaries or acquiring vast amounts of Republic resources to achieve their ends.
