Renewed Conviction

Kira had been gone a while from her colleagues here on Gerrenthum, but as the world stabilized from their coup, it had been easy to plead that her duties had carried her elsewhere. She had kept up on work, called into meetings and worked remotely, however this was the first time she had been back at the Imperium HQ in a couple months.

The corridors were quiet this early but she had a sneaking suspicion that [member="Joran Greth"] would be here. He usually was like her when she was here. Early in, late out and endlessly devoted to the job. Things had recently changed. She wore her Imperial uniform in aubergine, her hair was braided neatly aside as she strode to his office door and knocked. She would not barge in, they had respect for a closed door here. In a sense, she was about to throw a fairly big one wide open.

"Joran, you in?" She called out, her hands resting at her sides.

"Enter" said Greth as the familiar voice came from outside his door. He had been in his office since four am going over something which concerned him. Reports from his agents had brought dire news and as of yet Joran had not decided what to do with the information. Things were not as they appeared on Gerrenthium. Something was influencing the situation on the world from the shadows. Greth had a suspicion about what but yet ha had not gotten the proof he desired. He had ordered the fleet away from the capital the day before suspecting some attempt on it from these forces hidden to him in the shadows of the world. He even suspected key officers in the fleet could be part of the issue. For now he would put it all in the back of his mind for later and meet with [member="Kira Corsai"]

She entered the room, a small smile on her face to see him burning the oil here just as she had. There were serious issues facing them, and the report about the fleets being sent from the capital wasn't exactly surprising as she had been keeping tabs on the situation here through Guildan and the twins. She crossed the open carpet, and slid slowly down into a chair across from him.

"Morning Joran, you're looking troubled."

She thought he looked tired or troubled. Something. Something was off, but he played his cards as close to the chest as she did.

"What's got you up here this early?"

[member="Joran Greth"]

Greth considered the woman. He trusted Kira, she was as secretive as he was but in their line of work secrets were part of the job. It was part of the uniform they wore. They had to juggle a world of darkness that few in the galaxy ever knew exsisted. All around them were enemies, people set against the Imperium. Some had no care for the Imperium itself and were just set against Joran. He imagined the intelligence woman had her share of enemies also. He even considered the current issue would effect her and her secrets as well. HE had to trust someone and currently she was as good an ally as any. Maybe even better than anyone else he could find outside the fleet.

Joran thought a second longer than spoke. "Madam director," Joran started then changed his mind about how he would handle this. "Kira" he said returning her the same greating he had gotten from her. "I expect you know I have sent the fleet away." Greth paused a moment thinking of how to explain his actions. "I suspect we are pitched against agents from outside the Imperium. They seem to be very well funded and have spread their agenda through Gerrenthum's population. I have a report here" Greth said pushing the data print out across the table to Kira. "My agents are telling me a majority of the commerce guild we have pt in place here as well as elements of our military have been bought off. I expect to get some answers today, but for now It is still conjecture." Greth sit back then considered the woman and why she had come to his office at this time of the morning.

"That all being said, Why are you in this time of the day? I was not aware you would be in this morning." Greth said reaching into a drawer for a bottle of ale he had been nursing though out the morning.

She listened to him speaking of the dissidents who had managed to gain a foothold on Gerrenthum while she was away. In a way, the things that had been unfolding here were echoed through out the galaxy. Goverments rose and fell with astounding speed, size didn't guarantee stability. She looked over the printouts but it was pretty standard of what she would have expected to see.

"Snakes in our midst." She almost chuckled to herself as she set the information back on the desk. She mused for a moment how to continue but found it was much easier than she anticipated.

"The One Sith are on the verge of destruction. The Dark Lord has fallen from power and a usurper has gained a following. They openly war with themselves and their paranoia of traitors in their midst has made their policies and moves erratic. My absence from here lately was regrettable but necessary as I am Sith and I was assigned to evaluate and shore up any pockets of potential allies in the Western Reaches. Most of my former associates know me better as Lord Sinistra."

She rose from the chair and walked around the edge of the desk where Joran's chair sat. She leaned against his desk, her features still calm and as placid as if she had just stated that the sky was blue or that his uniform was green. She was still quite short and even standing next to his chair, they were nearly at eye level.

"I'm here this morning because you and I need to come to an understanding Joran. I'm laying my cards on the table. No more double life for me any longer. I am a Sith, and I plan to take whatever pieces are left of this endeavor and build them into an empire. However, I am not so shortsighted to think I can do this alone. Join me, Joran. Between the two of us, I think we can do better."

[member="Joran Greth"]

Joran sat eyeing the woman as she walked to his side. The proclamation of her being a Sith was surprising but did not shock him. He had been around the Sith for most of his life. They had killed his family on Crina and at first Greth had despised them. That had turned out was a short lived emotion as he realized his families death was as much the fault of the Crinan government as the Sith. War was war, if it had been him on the other side he too would have done what the sith had. It was the Empire which put his family in the position to be killed not the Sith. They just did what any assault force would do. Now with a Sith staring at him he had to decide how best to handle it. He knew the woman and her being a Sith did not change that. He knew her intentions, he had to decide to help her or die. That was no decision, he would not throw his life away just because the woman had outed herself and demanded his aid. He was not blind, he knew things were going bad. He had agents everywhere and had even gotten some reports before about the womans mysterious meetings. Now so much of the intel he had gathered on the woman made sense.

"A Sith you say?" Greth asked knowing full well it was a meaningless question. He gauged the woman then smiled. "Then if you are a Sith I need to share something with you." Greth pulled out a data pad and typed in a code. The pad asked for a password then Greth entered it and handed the pad to the Sith now standing beside him.

"I have been untruthful with you and the Imperium as a whole. While this was a conceived venture between you, I and the Supreme Commander I am afraid my intentions were less than honest. The entire time we have been building out Empire here on Gerrenthum I have been actively recruiting forces to over throw it. In fact, the Cabal which we had been fighting was a project I employed before our forces first even came to Gerrenthum. They were a tool of course. I set them up to destabilize the Imperium in preparation for my coup." Greth paused to judge the womans response so far.

"I have complete control of the Navy and a considerable portion of the Army is also in my control. Not enough yet to act against the Imperium openly but considering your current openness I felt I too should enlighten you as to my true intentions." Greth said. He motioned for her to look at the pad then smiled.

"I currently have four ships sitting outside the system awaiting my word to strike. The remainder of the fleet I have dispatched under the command of Admiral Lash to a location only he and I know. If you will notice there is mention of a fortress there also. I have acquired a large group of like minded individuals who as we now speak are working to finilize my power over the government of a certain world which for now will remain nameless. I never invisioned this world being my home. I have created my own little Empire out in space. You see we both seem to be in the Empire building game. I just seems I am a few steps ahead of you in its fruition." said Joran giving the Sith woman an equally intense star as she now gave him.

"You see, if you kill me here, That will not effect my plans. The Imperium is not this" Joran said motioning his hands in the direction of his office and Gerrenthum in general. "I have been building the True Imperium for far longer than You, I and the old idiot have been working together. This is just a mask, a distraction for my enemies to see. Something that appeases their curiosity and for all practical proposes looks like my plan." Greth paused again watching the woman measuring her and working out how to stay alive.

"This my lady is a long con. You and the commander were my marks. All that I require to over throw you and he is one last nudge of power. That it seems You have just given me. I invite you to work with me, to use what ever forces you have at your disposal to set my plan into action. The government here is a house of cards and you just gave me the ace I needed to trump the whole deck." once again he paused. The woman stared daggers of fire into his eyes. Greth simply intensified his smile and typed a set of commands into his desks computer interface.

"You see I too have a dark side. I may not be a Sith or embue the force, but I do have power. And my power is absolute here." Greth stood and looked down on the woman who he knew most likely was about to kill him. "You see you need me now more than ever. I fear I have made it very difficult for you and anyone else to get off the planet."

Klaxons sounded as explosions began engulfing the streets of Gerrenthum. Above four victory destroyers rained fire down on the world. Missile batteries spat concussion missiles at the world military instillation's. Greths smile widened to the point of pain as he began to laugh as behind him a hospital exploded under turbolaser fire.

"So yes Kira I will join you. But if you are looking to make me subservient you might as well kill me now and take your chances getting off the world." Greth one last time smiled at Kira and motioned for a door. "We can discuss our new partnership over drinks aboard my private shuttle as we leave this world. Contact anyone you wish and have them use this code to get off world. Without it i fear they would not make it." Greth gave Kira a number writen out on a piece of paper. He smiled and watched as the market and the rows of businesses along the central city were turned into slag. Thousands dying under the hell of concussion blasts and turbolaser fire.

She let him get through all his words, all his machinations, staring her down with fire and steel in his eyes. And then she laughed.

"My dear Joran. If I had wished you dead, you have been ages ago. This endeavor was as much a trial for me to evaluate you as it was a means for you to gather your resources and size us up. We both know the value of secrets and spies, and we would be foolish to think that either of us were ignorant or unwitting in the grand experiment that was the Imperium. So now we are both truthful in our motivations. I have no intentions of killing you or making you subservient to my whims. I think we both know that Decimus is a capable military leader, but he is no politician. This takes a certain finesse that he just doesn't have. I said join me, Joran, not bow before me. "

She looked out the window, a small smirk tugging the corner of her mouth.

"I am not so behind in the resources to build an Empire as you might think, but that is a conversation for another day. I am not the slavering despots who feast on the blood of the sacrificed or mutilate themselves with alien limbs. I crave power and rule. Not depravity and excess. In the meantime..." She watched as turbolaser fire erupted on the far side of the city from the offices of the Imperium. "... I find my calendar open for the rest the of the day. Shall we then?"

She stood from the edge of the desk, her mannerisms still rather relaxed. She carried no sabers on her to be seen but she was far from helpless should she encounter resistance. Sure the timetable was accelerated a little but it was nothing she could not work with. She could appreciate the work he had put into the scheme, years spent building plans upon plans. She enjoyed a long con herself. It was a pity they were only just now being honest with their plans.

Greth smiled at the woman and motioned again to a door. "Then by all means Let us depart this place before there is no need for egress." The woman walked out through the door way and to a private shuttle waiting in Greths private hanger. HE motioned once again for the Sith to enter and smiled and walked up the ramp showing her there was nothing to fear.

"Shall we go my lady?" Joran said as he took a seat waiting for her to board. In the distance the sound of explosions and buildings crumbling under the orbital barrage almost made it necessary to shout. He expected the woman able to hear his words over the commotion just fine.

[member="Kira Corsai"]

There was an unexpected sensation of freedom in casting off the veil of her hidden identity that she did not anticipate. She had been so careful, so precise over the last 20 years or so. Now that she had decided to take off the mask, it felt as though she was weightless and a little unnerving. She had worked so hard to preserve her identity that admitting to Joran at all that she was Sith Lord was a monumental step for her.

"Yes, let's be away from here."

She boarded the shuttle and settled in for the ride to orbit, the turbulence as the shuttle lifted off jostled them a little as she watched the explosions and laser fire from the windows of the transport ship. Mentally, she was going through her assets and planning for the shift to dedicating them full time to the current endeavor. No more would there be splitting her team between two masters. Now, there was only her.

She looked back at the Grand Moff and smiled. Of course, they would not fully trust each other, but that hardly seemed necessary if it granted them the power they craved.

[member="Joran Greth"]

The shuttle set down on the flight deck of the Victory X-class Destroyer Warspite. The ramo hissed as air released and the pressure hatch was broken. The ramp slowly lowered to the deck letting in the bright hanger lights and the smell of New ship. The vessel was the newest ship of the new Victory X-class. It was state of the art and more powerful than any other ship currently serving in the Imperium Fleet out side the three Procursator prototypes. It was the pinnacle of Imperial design and construction.

At the bottom of the ramp stood Admiral Blessix and his to aids. The man smiled as he noticed Greth had a guest. Joran paused for a moment thinking about what to say to the man and if he should let the man know just who they were having as a guest. He decided he would leave that to the Sith., Just because she had told him who she really was did not mean she wanted anyone else to know. And he would not tell anyone. He would do everything he could not to anger the woman if he could help it.

"Admiral Blessix, Right on time. I trust you know Minister Corsai?" Greth ask motioning for the woman to walk with him down the ramp.

[member="Kira Corsai"]

"I'm afraid that I know of the Minister by reputation only," said Desente, offering a curt bow to the woman, "but it is my pleasure to meet you, madam."

Admiral Blissex looked past the shadows that engulfed the ramp towards [member="Kira Corsai"]. He always felt it somewhat strange to see non-Navy personnel onboard warships. Even though they were arguably part of the same organization, he sometimes felt as if another culture was infiltrating its way onto his vessel. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing. While they were different, Blissex had nothing by admiration for the logistics workers and engineers that helped maintain and build the Imperium war machine. Understanding how to build feats of engineering like the Warspite was something almost beyond a reality for him. Yet he knew that sometimes the most important people in a government weren't necessarily involved directly in the Navy or any of the armed forces. Blissex would be highly curious to see why [member=Joran Greth] was bringing her onboard his vessel.

"Very good, then" said Greth as he stepped aside to let Kira step up beside him. "I have brought the Minister along to assist us once we get to Randon." Greth said knowing full well he had given the woman their destination. He did not care at this point. HE had decided to trust the woman for now. He knew that they both were in better shape together for now. The woman had come to him, that meant she wanted his help. He had not planned on her assistance but having it would put him in a far better position. Together they could accelerate each others plans. This was something Greth liked. He had dealt with Sith, with their arrogance. This woman had never shown him such in the past. Maybe she was less more behaved and less dramatic than the Sith he had known in the past.

"Admiral, You may stop the bombardment now, let us get underway." Greth said turning to Kira and motioning for her to follow him. "Right this way minister and I will show you to our guest quarters." said Greth with a smile. He knew the woman would be on edge and suspect him and everyone on the ship for now. He hopes that would pass. He meant her no harm. In fact he relished in the idea of working with her. Now that all their cards had been played he felt the two had a glorious future together building the Imperium.

[member="Desente Blissex"] [member="Kira Corsai"]

"Likewise Admiral."

Kira nodded to Blissex, and fell into step alongside Joran, as she freed her comlink from her belt and checked on the burn order she had sent to her team. Anyone digging into the IIB files on Gerrenthum would find nothing left as her staff liquidated their files, sabotaged their offices and then vanished into the chaos on the streets of the capital city. Her best agents, her favorites were not on world to begin with but they would meet up with her later at a safehouse she had set up specifically for them. Right now, they could wait and take the opportunity to assess the situation for themselves. A lot of changes to everything were in store for them.

Satisfied that the burn order was executed as detailed, she activated the self destruct program to wipe the comlink, then with the application of just a bit of power, she crushed the electronic in her hand. Passing a bin, she casually discarded it, knowing that any attempt to retrieve intel off it would be pointless. The circuitry was dead and the memory was wiped. She would contact Dawson for a new one in time.

"Transitioning the Imperium is going to take some reorganization of our current resources and some agreements on power structure and hierarchy. Perhaps we can have a discussion of that over some drinks? I'm going to assume you have a conference room and some whiskey handy."

Even if he didn't, the conversation was a prudent one. She had no inclination to step on his toes and the transition off Gerrenthum would require them to be agreeable on their roles going forward. Whatever those roles might be.

The trip from the city now burning to the ship sin orbit was a short one. The group did not speak as they looked out at the city not a pile of burning rubble. So many dead now. The cabal of force users among them. Greth knew the days ahead would be shaky and he knew the bond between him and the sith woman would be something he would have to maintain to get where he wanted to go. Where he wanted to take the Imperium. The future was not set in stone, It was not something he was certain of but he had plans. He had set many in motion long ago before even settling on Gerenthum. He had his eyes on a certain world where he could build a new order of the Empire to cleanse the galaxy of its weakness.

For now he and the Sith would join together and forge a bond of necessity. Each needed the other and each would be scheming against the other as well. That was the way of things in the game of empire building. Greth had no hostility towards her, he did not fear her power or her resolve. He looked at the woman and saw a tool in his kit to bring the galaxy to heel and restore the order to the galaxy as it had been so very long ago.
