Private Rejuvenation

Puzzles and prisms, both things Starlin did understand at length. He smiled and inspected the piece he had been handed, nodding along as the man explained its purpose.
"We have lots of prisms in the gardens" he said, "they shift the light.." He knew that this was not the exact same thing, but he hoped Jasper would see he understood some of the concepts he was explaining. "Instead of refracting it, this... focuses it? But, energy, not light..." He was getting himself in knots he realized, so he drew a very slow and steady breath, and let the matter go for now.
There were still plenty of other parts to figure out after all.
The most important part thus far for Starlin was actually talks of batteries. "Is that why it seems to thrum with life?" Then, "Kyber holds energy, you say it's alive... we're not hurting it by using its energy, are we?"

"Kyber holds energy, you say it's alive... we're not hurting it by using its energy, are we?"

"No, it's perfectly fine," Jasper assured. "The Kyber is always releasing energy, we're just taking it and giving it somewhere to go. More than that, the Kyber's power will grow the more time it spends with you. You may start to notice that you can focus more, think faster."

Jasper offered Starlin another part, this one circular.

"This piece is one that answers the question of how the blade keeps its form," he explained. "It creates a magnetic field that holds the energy in place. It's very necessary, plasma is super-heated enough that you can't use a central rod to give the blade shape. It can cut right through metal after all. If the focusing lens and the magnetic field aren't aligned just right, your blade will probably destroy itself."

He hummed in thought, mentally feeling for its warm weight in his pocket, for that melodic thrum, before smiling to himself. "I like the sound of that" he confessed, "of nurturing it, growing together - like a friend. I... I think it chose me, and I think I am choosing it."
When the circular piece was handed over, Starlin looked at it, turned it over in his hand, then glanced up at Jasper. "Neat" he said, "It's all very technical, isn't it? Precise... Is it dangerous? If they end up out of alignment? You say it will destroy the blade, do you just mean the plasma or the... the bit it comes out of?"
He didn't like the thought of it being the latter, he could imagine you'd end up with a very sore hand indeed - or no hand? Starlin wasn't sure, but he also didn't want to find out.
"I'll make sure I pay close attention so that when the time comes it doesn't backfire" he promised.

"It's all very technical, isn't it? Precise... Is it dangerous? If they end up out of alignment? You say it will destroy the blade, do you just mean the plasma or the... the bit it comes out of?"

"The plasma," he specified. "You really don't wanna burn your hand off. A lightsaber is a useful tool. It can help create doors, it can block blaster bolts, it can light up dark places; But it is dangerous. Just like the Force, a Jedi needs to learn how to handle one safely and properly so they can use it to the best of their abilities."

Jasper didn't mince his words. He spoke in a direct way to get across the details as clearly as he could. After all, leaving space for ambiguity left room for people to get hurt. He wanted Starlin to understand the weight of the weapon he would be forging.

"As for when the time comes to make your blade," Jasper continued, "You set the pace. If you're eager to move on to more, you'll start quickly. Just know that the time you commit is proportional to the quality of your work. Too fast and you make something flawed. Too slow and you may find yourself unmotivated. This is the time to establish your discipline and set the tone for everything that follows. Truthfully, the lightsaber is the easy part. When you're ready, though, take the initiative and construct your blade. All reading materials you'll need to explain each part are within this chamber. Bring me a working lightsaber and we'll move on from training remotes, yeah?"

Starlin looked very somber indeed as Jasper explained the weight of responsibility that came with not just a lightsaber but the Force itself. He nodded slowly, lifting up a hand to rub at his sternum, then dipped his eyes.
"I've seen the damage one can do to metal" he said, "and I've seen what the Force can do in the wrong hands, too, even if I didn't know that's what was causing it at the time. I don't want to be reckless or put anyone in danger; I won't misuse it, Sir, any of it. I promise."
He was grateful that Jasper told it as it was, and didn't sugar coat it. Starlin knew coming into it that this wasn't fun and games, but the severity still could not be understated.
"I am eager to learn, Sir" he confessed, "But I don't want to rush it, I want to understand before I move on." There was no point in learning if he was going to forget it all within a week. As for sabers and remotes, he smiled.
"Okay, deal." His hand closed over something just beneath his shirt, and he lifted his head to look at Jasper.
"Oh," he said, reaching under the dip of his shirt to pull something free, "uh, there's something else."

"Oh," he said, reaching under the dip of his shirt to pull something free, "uh, there's something else."

"Another thing?" Jasper responded with some amusement. "You're full of surprises, aren't you?"

He didn't mind. It was teaching him a lot about the young man, and the sorts of things that held his interest. Whatever the case was, he had shown that he had found kyber with the last 'something' he shared. Jasper was getting the idea that Starlin was quite good at finding important things.

"Well, go on," he nodded. "Let's see that other thing."

Reaching under his shirt, he pulled free an amulet to let it settle upon his sternum, in view of Jasper. After a moment, he also reached up to undo the fastening and remove it from himself entirely so that he could hand it over.
"I found it in the same place as Kyber, Sir," he explained, "Well, the woman I was with opened the container after I found it, but... she told me to keep it. She said it should block people from being in my mind? Or something like that..." He rubbed the back of his neck once the amulet had been taken to be inspected. "It was a rough day, I don't remember it all."
He shifted up onto his toes nervously, then back down onto his heels.

"Well, the woman I was with opened the container after I found it, but... she told me to keep it. She said it should block people from being in my mind? Or something like that..." He rubbed the back of his neck once the amulet had been taken to be inspected. "It was a rough day, I don't remember it all."

"Interesting," Jasper murmured, taking in the amulet.

The Jedi would take it into his hand and let his mind resonate with it. Sure enough, there was a sort of sensation that made him feel a bit more resilient. He had trained for a while to keep up his mental shields, especially in regards to dark influences, so he could recognize when the task became easier in the presence of the amulet. Even so...

"Well, I got no clue what this is," he admitted with a shrug, handing it back. "But, it does seem to be doing what this woman you met claimed. Any edge you can get should be taken, as long as it doesn't compromise your focus and morals. I'd say keep it around."

From there, Jasper decided it was time to shift gears. He could practice building sabers on his own later. There were other important matters to attend to.

"Right," Jasper began again. "I suppose you'll be needing a place to stay then, yeah? If you're going to be focusing on training, you'll certainly need sleep. Of course, you can use the ship you returned on if you like, but board at the temple is always offered to any students. Besides, this place is... special. I find these places where the Force is strong often have much to share. Visions are more likely to come to us while we sleep... when our minds are free from the constraints of our bodies. Perhaps you may learn something just by being here."

On that cryptic note, Jasper folded his hands behind his back and made for the door, intending to lead Starlin to his board. He did not elaborate on what he meant...

But he did wear a smile on his face.
