OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create a compact, double-barreled close-quarters blaster carbine for Commonwealth Marines, Navy Security rapid-response teams, and select high-risk boarding personnel — a brute-force contact weapon distinct from the Broomstick's precision breach role.

  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: CWT-DBBC-RK "Reek"
  • Modularity: Yes
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Durasteel receiver and barrel assembly, reinforced alloy firing chambers, heat-resistant emitter shrouds, duraplast grip furniture, sealed blaster components
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Double-Barreled Blaster Carbine (Shotgun-Class Contact Weapon)
  • Size: Average
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: High-output power cell with Tibanna gas cartridge (Commonwealth-pattern)
  • Ammunition Capacity: Small
  • Effective Range: Personal
  • Rate of Fire: Low
  • Damage Output: Very High
  • Recoil: None
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Twin independent emitter channels: Each barrel has its own firing path, allowing the weapon to discharge two full-power shots without cycling delay.
  • Dual-shot overmatch profile: Built for immediate close-contact dominance rather than sustained room clearing.
  • Sealed CQB construction: Hardened for shipboard, station, and urban environments where debris, smoke, vacuum-adjacent conditions, and hard impacts are common.
  • Mag-lock retention compatibility: Can be secured to Marine boarding armor or Navy Security response harnesses during zero-g operations.
  • Short-form carbine body: Compact enough for corridors, hatches, airlocks, and boarding tubes.
STRENGTHS
  • Overwhelming close-range force: Delivers two immediate, full-power blaster discharges at contact distance with no cycling action between them.
  • Redundant firing paths: If one emitter channel fails, the second can remain functional — a valuable trait in boarding actions and zero-g combat.
  • Psychological shock: Its profile, report, and impact make it a powerful deterrent in sudden close-quarters confrontations.
WEAKNESSES
  • Short effective range: A pure contact weapon; performs poorly beyond close-quarters distances.
  • Low ammunition efficiency: The high-output twin discharge drains cells quickly compared to standard carbines or pistols, and its small capacity demands frequent reloading.
  • Poor sustained engagement: Once the initial overmatch moment passes, operators are better served by a rifle, carbine, or the Broomstick.
DESCRIPTION

The CWT-DBBC-RK "Reek" was developed as a Commonwealth close-contact overmatch weapon for personnel operating in the most violent seconds of a boarding action, breach, or shipboard emergency. It is not a general-purpose shotgun, nor is it intended to replace the Commonwealth's CWT-CQSBS-BM "Broomstick" cone-bloom blaster shotgun. Where the Broomstick is a controlled, deliberate precision breach weapon that wins a fight with a single measured discharge, the Reek is the brute-force answer to immediate close-range resistance — everything, at once, right now.

The Reek's twin emitter channels allow two full-power discharges without cycling delay, giving trained operators a sudden and decisive burst of firepower at extremely short range. This makes it valuable in tight corridors, airlocks, docking collars, engineering spaces, and station interiors where reaction time is measured in heartbeats. Its redundancy is equally prized: in zero-g or vacuum-adjacent environments where a weapon failure can be fatal, a second independent firing path is a life. These are choices made by people who have lost Marines in boarding actions, and the weapon reflects it.

Because of its short range and extreme output, the Reek is tightly controlled. It is not issued to line infantry, militia units, routine patrol forces, or standard security detachments. Within the Commonwealth Marines it is carried by CQB-qualified boarding specialists, breach leaders, and personnel assigned to high-risk ship-seizure operations. Navy Security maintains smaller stocks aboard capital ships and major stations for rapid-response teams facing pirate boarders, mutineers, or hostile boarding parties.

Among Marines, the Reek has earned the nickname "The Knock." The logic is blunt: if the door does not open, the Reek answers. Its unofficial reputation is equally direct.

"If the Knock comes out, negotiations are over."

In Commonwealth doctrine, the Reek represents controlled escalation at its harshest edge — not intimidation for its own sake, but immediate, accountable force for the moment when restraint has already passed. It is the brute-force counterpart to the CWT-CQSBS-BM "Broomstick"; the two are issued to complementary roles within the same boarding and CQB formations rather than as substitutes for one another.
