VARIN MORTIFER

Equipment: Durum Mantle | Black Blade of Chandrila | Eye of The Dragon | Heavy Sith Mace | Cross Guard Broadsaber | Wyrmfang

Varin had done something he swore he would never do. Play a slave trader’s game. The bidding battle was full of activity but in the end, Varin would be the one to bring her back home. The artifacts and the items were not as important to him, though they will find use.

With the traction he had built within The Sith Covenant, anything seemed possible. Though he still cared for his people. That is why he participated. Better him than some being opting to change who they were and remake Tamsin into something she simply was not.

Varin had fought along side her and fought against her, in those conflicts he began to know her.

Having power of course meant being able to change things in big ways, but what was the point if he couldn’t save one person, bring them home and shatter their bonds.

It was time for pickup and Varin wasted no time waiting to see what other bobbles and odds would be auctioned off. They were not his priority. When he arrived on the set coordinates of the planet awaiting him was a small shuttle guarded by a few droids and standing between them were two Weequay warriors, one holding a case that held the artifacts and weapons Varin had purchased and the other holding a blindfolded Tamsin.

Varin’s ramp descended from his ship as he approached, his armor shining like obsidian glass within the sunlight and his helm left on the ship. Upon his waist were Wyrmfang and The Black Blade. Nestled comfortably in the small of his back attached to his belt was the hilt of his saber. All three weapons capable of great destruction and all three weapons having witnessed the creativity he could implement with them.

In short, if needed, Varin was capable of cutting these poor souls down in the blink of an eye if he chose. Or if they chose to attack him.

He never trusted slavers, and he especially never trusted the Hutts.

His bootfalls stopped before the individuals, his gaze piercing through them, his sight reading them through the force. He seemed relaxed yet attentive but his presence commanded cooperation. The pressure of it was evident when the ship had landed, like a wave of lead holding down the body.

Varin stood there in silence before one cleared his throat ready to speak to the mountain of a man before him.

“Items are safe in the crate waiting for you to look at them, and the girl is ready for pick up. Unharmed of course.”

Varin’s gaze slowly passed over all of them before he spoke.

“Walk her over, and you.”

His gaze pinned the other Weequay.

“Open the container and show me everything.”

Nervously the Weequay slowly walked her over to him while the other one opened up the case, turning it around to show him nothing had been tampered with and everything was included.

Varin looked back at the Weequay now standing closer to him, his gaze looking through the man’s as the man’s gaze shifted away from Varin in nervousness. Finally the crate approached set before his feet before the Weequay men started heading back to their ship.

She heard voices chatting around her, they spoke in Sriluurian and she didn't know what they were saying among each other. Yet they would occasionally laugh, in what seemed like a disturbing manner. Then she heard the engines of a ship in descent as the men around her quieted and hushed for moment.

She couldn't see it or even feel it really, it was just palpable, the tension rising. It rose to a fever pitch as the descent of the ship came closer and closer and the thud of the landing gear on the duracrete could be heard. Then the squeal of the landing ramp lowering, that hiss when it finally settled into position.

She stood up straight and kept her eyes forward in the direction of the ship even if she couldn't see it through the blindfold. A fear rising in her chest, as she heard the first boot falls onto the ramp. They strode in confidence, with a notice thud and weight to them.

Then the foot falls stood and silence hung in the air for a moment neither side speaking at first. Beneath the blindfold Tamsin's eyes shifted back and forth as if she was looking at the scene she could not actually see. Her heart pounded and fear spread through her bloodstream.

Then one of her Weequay captors spoke in their broken basic.

"Items are safe in the crate waiting for you to look at them, and the girl is ready for pick up. Unharmed of course."

Items? What did they mean? This person had purchased her and some items, but what were the items for? Did it matter, this whoever it was, was her owner now. Was this always her life? A slave being passed from master to master? Only having a moment of freedom, whatever that was? Her bottom lip quivered in fear, but she bit at it to get it to stop. She gulped back hard as the man spoke his voice carrying weight and authority with it.

"Walk her over, and you."

His gaze pinned the other Weequay.

"Open the container and show me everything."

Then she felt a stiff hand on her shoulder as one of the Weequay shoved her forward. Her legs locked for a second but could not resist totally as she stumbled forward towards whomever was at the other end of the demand.

She could hear something being opened and the items being shown to the one with demands. Then the quiet yet hurried footsteps of her former captors moving away. Something about their steps said they wanted to get away from whomever, this was fast but not looking too scared while doing it.

She stood there in front of Varin blind folded still next to the box of things, she did not know had once been hers. Standing before a man she did not know she had known. She didn't dare speak, she didn't dare move unless commanded too, and she didn't dare do anything. She stood their in petrified fear of what would happen next.

Varin watched as the Weequay entered their vessel. The growls of the engine igniting as the ramp hissed closed before takeoff. Then, they finally lifted. Leaving the surface of the planet. Varin’s force sight looked around the place for any other stray strange signals, seeing if they were being watched.

His hand gently clasped her shoulder, leading her back into his ship.

Within the vessel Sinew sat within her bed, panting as she gnawed on some poor creature's bone. CC the bodyguard droid waited in patient silence before Varin gave her the nod to take off. The ship slowly rose as his ramp closed hissing shut before the ship too left orbit of the planet.

A deep sigh left his chest before he looked at Tamsin again, his force sight telling him something was different about her. The normal chaotic feel from within was…missing…

This interested him. How she had purged herself of the entity from within, and lived.

“How did you end up in the slave market?”

His voice was deep, almost quiet, before his fingers undid her blindfold allowing her to see a mountain of a man clad in black armor, ancient runes burned within the surface discoloring the metal from sheer heat. His molten gaze looked her in the eye as he spoke, not looking away for a second.

“Normally you would not have ended up there.”

She tried to take in whatever sounds she could as she was led up the ramp of the. In truth though all she could hear was the large footsteps of the man who had purchased her. She tried not to tremble as she moved up the ramp of the ship. She knew not what was next, she couldn't even remember what had come before. Was she a good slave before? No, she couldn't have been she was told she had escaped.

She felt the transition on her pale skin from the outdoors to the stale air of a ship. The man's large hand on her shoulder guiding her until they stopped. Tamsin stood up straight, her muscles tense as she held back the fear running though blood causing her heart to beat uncontrollably like it might rip right out of her chest. The man's hand on her shoulder told she was correct that he was a large man.

She stood there in silence for a moment, though she knew the man as nearby. As she felt, under her feet the slight rocking of the ship they were on started to take off. She gulped a lump in her throat back as she knew now, this was it. This was her life, a slave whatever freedom she had felt it was now forgotten. She wondered what it had felt like, what it meant to be free. Her thoughts broken by the man asking the strangest question.

"Uh….I don't….I was told I was an escaped slave. Now…there was a debt that had to be paid….but I was always a slave meant to be sold." As far as she knew that was the truth not that she had any real memory of that truth. Yet in the man's voice, the tone, he seemed to act like he knew her.

As he lifted the blindfold from her those eyes that had been a fiery orange now black dull. They looked at the giant of a man, the fear could clearly be seen as she looked at Varin. Yet those eyes looked on him like he was some stranger she had never met before. His eyes how ever looked on her like he knew her.

Tamsin took in the sight of the giant man clad in his armor and his tattoos slightly visible at points. He was a hulk of a man, one might say a brute, yet she had a kindness in his eyes a caring.

"I…don't understand, why wouldn't I end up there?" Did he know something about her she didn't anymore. "Sor..sorry should I address you as sir or master or something." She tried to stop herself, but she took a step backwards away from Varin thinking he might strike her or something for addressing him informally and addressed him with a question without permission.

VARIN MORTIFER

Varin saw it in her eyes, she was terrified. And she had practically no memory of almost anything prior to being sold. The way she stepped back from him caused him to relax his shoulders some as she asked him about titles.

“Varin, will do fine. Take a seat if you wish. I do not keep people as slaves, soon you will not have to worry for that. It is not where you belong.”

He looked at the box full of equipment and slowly lifted his hand. An unseen force pulling the equipment slowly over towards them. Most of the things he recognized as what used to be hers, now were technically his to do with as he pleased.

He slowly lifted the lightsaber first, looking over its hilt.

“You don’t know who you once were, do you?”

His gaze fell back on her as the ship stabilized for normal flight, autopilot towards Coruscant. CC then stood up heading towards the storage area where food and drink waited to be used. Something more akin to MRE’s, it was all Varin mainly had on the ship for now.

When CC returned her mechanical hands offered the new passenger a package of food and a container of water.

Varin then spoke after gently setting the saber back down.

“You were not always a slave.”

“Varin, will do fine. Take a seat if you wish. I do not keep people as slaves, soon you will not have to worry for that. It is not where you belong.”

She saw the giant of a man’s shoulders relax as he spoke his name. The name brought no form of realization or memory to mind. She did not move at first when he offered her a seat, even mentioning he did not take slaves didn’t cause the tension in her muscles to loosen. Even with he gesture of his name and his offer, the grave digger girl was a stranger in a land that seemed to know her.

The fear of not knowing anything about yourself but knowing those around you did was more terrifying than knowing you were always a meaningless slave. His last words were probably the most chilling, not where you belong…..did she belong somewhere else…..did she belong anywhere?

She watched as his eyes moved towards a box of things and they began to move their own as he lifted a hand. Though she did remember who she was or what she had done, she still retained some basic distant memory of learned things. Just concepts really and they read more like a manual in her mind than a solidified memory she could pinpoint when she learned it.

“The Force….” She said just under her breath referencing his use of the force. She didn’t exactly know what it was just that she knew of it somehow.

“You don’t know who you once were, do you?”

The question was direct. It wasn’t easy to answer, even if she still had her memory. Tamsin for all she was, what little she had accomplished before even that person never knew who they were or where they belonged. This Tamsin, the grave digger, was even more lost than the previous girl she had been.

“I….only know what I was told. I was a slave, owned by Blougah the Hutt on Tatoonie. He used me as Grave Digger and animal pens cleaner.” Though she really had no memory of it or what kind of life it was. It was just words she was told, and she had no way to refute them. “That I escaped, and a lot of damage was caused in my escape.” Though it wasn’t a memory of hers, her mind had conjured up an image of what was told to her. Hundreds of slaves in the same pens she had been held in for auction being slaughtered for her escape. An example set to make sure none would attempt to escape themselves.

As Varin brought out a cylinder like object, she looked at it but she did not recognize it. She didn’t even know what it was, maybe a code cylinder but it looked a little big for that. “But know I do not know anything beyond that.” She continued to look at the object same as he did, but he seemed to know what it was and she did not.

She didn’t even notice the droid leave and return with food as it was set in front of her. Tamsin looked at the droid as the package was handed to her with a container of water. “Thank you.” She said as Varin spoke up once more.

“You were not always a slave.”

Her attention peeked back towards the giant man that called himself Varin. A curious look crossed her face with a quirked eyebrow.

“You going to tell me I am damn princess now?” She said in a partially sarcastic tone. Yet it felt right to say because once long ago in a memory she no longer had such a promise had been made to her. Once her sister, Darth Anathemous Darth Anathemous said she could become anything she wanted, even a princess, and they would do it together.
