DESCRIPTION
Initially produced for the Galactic Republic before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the TX-130s Sabre-Class Fighter Tank was the primary Main Battle Tank for the Grand Army of the Republic. The relatively 'light' repulsor tank was designed to implement the deadly capabilities, and tactical flexibilities of a Starfighter - but regulated to surface-based combat scenarios. This choice made by the designers at Rothana Heavy Engineering was meant to counter the more static armoured formations that were utilized by the Separatist Alliance. While the Armoured Assault Tank proved to be a formidable foe - the TX-130s Sabre was capable of weaving intricate directional patterns across the surface of the battlefield, tearing through formations of enemy armour and infantry divisions alike.

Seeking to replicate this ancient repulsor tank, the technical architects within the Republic Engineering Corporation found themselves scouring over what data they second-handedly procured from the failed state of the Core Imperial Confederation. When they saw what it was they were looking for, the design crew set about perfecting the ancient and seemingly degraded schematics. War was never kind to repositories of knowledge. Thus, the design team found themselves improvising where they could, to fill the technical blanks in regards to the aged blueprint. When their preliminary work was complete, the technical architects began pulling the entirety of their schematic apart. They sought ways to improve upon its design - whilst keeping it's visual aesthetic unchanged.

The first change that was made to the overall framework of the TX-130s was eight centuries worth of innovation revolving around the repulsorfield engine. While the weight of the armour applied to the Sabre's frame proved to be a limiting factor, such worries were wiped away with modern reclamation and advances. Those innovations allowed for a collection of dense and heavier metals to be utilized in the vehicle's structural framework, adding a significantly better margin of protection to the TX-130s' successor.

What came second was something that the Republic Engineering Corporation considered to be their primary focus in whatever products they fabricate, alongside their unofficial specialty. This item in question was the integration of a droid brain into the repulsor tank's central system and core processes, which granted the vehicle a limited sense of autonomy. A pseudo-artificial intelligence that would learn and grow - like any droid that went for lengthy periods of time without a memory wipe - as it experienced more of what horrors the galaxy had to offer. As the droid brain was limited in its programming, all it was capable of doing was suggesting variable tactics and strategies to the Operator. As well as assuming direct control when the Operator was terminated or unconscious. However, it was only capable of carrying out its last command, to the best of its limited abilities, before reverting to standby mode.

The third, and considered to be the most notable alteration to the Sabre's design was the inclusion of a pair of heavy repeating particle cannons, instead of the traditional laser-based variants. While formerly regulated to artillery weapons, particle beam weaponry became a popular choice amongst the technicians of the Republic Engineering Corporation for not only it's strength, but for the proverbial splash damage caused after the discharged beam struck a target. Combined with various technologies, the newly installed repeating particle cannons would find themselves capable of cycling through three firing modes. There was little to be said about the standard firing mode, for it operated exactly as intended. However, when it comes to the Barrage and Charge modes - more explanation is required.

The intent behind the Barrage mode was to overclock the firing mechanisms within the twinned heavy repeating particle cannons, allowing the repulsor tank to rapidly discharge its primary weapon at incredible speeds, capable of utterly devastating whatever stood in the vehicle's way. While impressive in its own right, this selected mode resulted in vastly overheated capacitors, which kicked the integrated safety protocols into overdrive. This left the repulsor tank incapable of firing its primary armament for some time, whilst the vehicle shunted the excessive heat out and away from the central chassis. All power comes at a price.

Charge mode turns the twinned heavy repeating particle cannons into a dedicated anti-armour weapon, capable of punching through all but the heaviest of armour plating - before the particle beam violently explodes, causing irreparable damage within the target's structural framework. While the bolts produced by selecting this mode are indeed powerful, but they come with a few significant drawbacks - both of which involve the time required to accrue the necessary lethality required to obliterate their intended targets. The accruement phase took anywhere between two seconds, to seven - both of which factored into the damage output charge mode was capable of producing. The longer the charge was held, the more powerful the bolts produced would become.

In addition to this, should the full seven seconds be used, the integrated capacitors would require an equal measure of time to reset themselves.

Thus, with these noted changes made to the Sabre-Class Fighter Tank - alongside countless others that didn't get their chance to shine in the spotlight - the Republic Engineering Corporation saw fit to rechristen this design as the Glaive. The vehicle would become a weapon in which the forces of law and order would use to sweep away the tides of darkness festering amongst the lightless void.
