DESCRIPTION
With the presence of Lightsabre-wielding warriors becoming commonplace on the various battlefields across the known universe, the technical architects within the Republic Engineering Corporation sought to make something that’d help level the playing field. While blasters were effective weaponry, especially when deployed en masse, they weren’t effective against an enemy wielding the exotic plasma swords of the Jedi or Sith. Blasters became a dual-edged weapon when paired against Lightsabres, simply because their discharged lethality could be reflected back at the weapon’s operator. This wouldn’t do, especially not for a weapon that was meant to balance the scales against such a powerful enemy.

So, the technical architects believed that an exotic variant of the plasma-based weaponry would suit their needs perfectly. Thus, the decision was made to adopt the particle beam technology. The difference between conventional blaster bolts and those generated by a particle beam weapon was that the bolts were less densely packed on the particulate level and highly energized - which resulted in an unstable, and incredibly powerful projectile. The erratic nature of the bolt also proved to be quite effective against Lightsabre-wielding opponents, as the bolt would violently explode when it came into contact with the plasmatic weapon; bathing the Jedi or Sith behind it in a wash of highly energized plasma. In addition to detonating on contact with a projected energy field, the discharged projectile also exploded on contact with a physical, solid object.

With the technological path sorted, the weapon designers were tasked with settling on a design aesthetic. Originally, they began leaning towards the Z-6 Rotary Cannon due to its dependable design and capabilities. However, the design team elected to go another route - as it wasn’t enough and It needed to stand out. So, they took the design back to the drawing board in the hopes of making it truly unique.

And so, after many days of trial and error, the technical architects produced a design they believed would not only be considered a worthy successor to the Z-6 Rotary Cannon - but surpass it’s legacy entirely. To see such an eventuality come to pass, the Team designed the weapon around a rapidly rotating, and transforming module. The primary firing assembly was built around a nine-barreled module, that would split apart to form three tri-barreled assemblies that would spin even faster - vastly increasing it’s rate of fire, and rotation, by a factor of one-and-one-half. This increased rotational speed would generate a massive amount of frictional heat that’d radiate and warp the metals used in the weapon’s composition. To counteract this, the design team utilized a thermal siphoning gel that would leech the heat generated by the weapon, and safely radiate it away from the operator and the Chainblaster itself.

However, the addition wasn’t entirely perfect. Should the weapon be used consistently over a lengthy period of time - the thermal siphoning gel wouldn’t be able to keep up with the rapid spike in heat, which would result in the assembly warping, thus rendering the weapon useless.

Despite this possibility, brought about careless use, the Corporation saw fit to push this weapon into production. It was effective, especially when there were large groups of enemies traversing from cover to cover in open spaces. The amount of pressure and firepower that the weapon brought to bear on the enemy made the entire assembly worthy of its new epithet; the Reaper, as it would cut down the opposition with a seemingly endless barrage of unstable, and explosive plasma. Adding in its capabilities of transforming into a portable sentry turret? There wasn’t much that could withstand the relentless assault.
