DESCRIPTION
At the height of the ancient Galactic Empire, before the darkness nearly snuffed out the light of the civilization, the Imperialist regime operated hundreds, if not thousands of mobile Deep Docks throughout the galaxy. These deep space Installations were designed to fulfill two primary roles with the Imperial Navy; both of which revolved around maintaining or manufacturing starships of various sizes. When the Empire fell, many of these stations fell into the fledgling New Republic’s hands - or were lost to the annals time. It wasn’t until many centuries later that such mythical facilities were located, and restored by the myriad Interstellar Empires and Organizations that populated stars.

However many ancient and nearly forgotten facilities weren’t suited to the demands of the modern era - or were too degraded to be repaired or overhauled in any viable capacity.

When the cost became too much, the Republic Engineering realized that it would be more cost-effective to create their own versions - rather than refit the stations of old. Thanks in part to their preference of utilizing molecular furnaces, the Corporation elected to repurpose whatever ancient facilities they found in a different fashion. Nothing would go to waste as they would disassemble and repurpose those venerable stations, whenever they were found. In addition to recycling the parts from Imperial Deep Docks, any warships that were found abandoned, or destroyed, would be melted down and repurposed as well.

The whole process was ultimately a win-win for the Corporation in the end. As their efforts to clean up the space lanes, and repurpose whatever wreckage was left behind during the many Sith Campaigns - yielded a proverbial treasure trove of reusable goods. So, not only would they be able to save large sums of credits when purchasing raw materials, but they would also save countless lives by removing the numerable astrological hazards that painted the starways. It was good for the Company’s image with the public - though such benevolence would likely be overshadowed by the fact the Corporation was nothing more than a war profiteer.

Undaunted by such backroom claims, Republic Engineering took some measure of pride in their work. At least the various Trade Routes throughout the Core Regions of the Galaxy would be free of wartorn detritus that plagued them.

With a reservoir of seemingly limitless resources to draw from, the Shipwright began their monumental effort of reforging the Imperial Deep Docks, turning them into something wholly modular. Blending the intent of the past, with the functionality of the modern age. From this endeavour, the REC-DSM/01 “Castellum” - Class Mobile Deepdock was born. The Castellum was designed from the ground up to have a host of variable structural configurations, and house the ability to deploy a crimson-hued gantry from three directions. With their gantries extended, the Deep Dock would be able to utilize its many supplementary systems to begin crafting a multitude of large warships, or a singular battlecruiser over a respective period of time.

Adding onto the Deep Dock’s ability to be able to manufacture, or even repair ships, utilizing it’s external systems - the Castellum also houses a comprehensive fabrication suite within it’s armoured husk. From within the protective embrace of the Deep Dock’s defensive shell, the automated systems - overseen by a relatively small organic crew - would process any work orders with ceaseless alacrity. Components would be fashioned from the raw materials and scrap that was drawn in, and subsequently repurposed by the Molecular furnaces - before proceeding down the assembly line towards the product’s inevitable completion. When these small craft were finally assembled, they would roll off the production line and be transferred through the station’s interior - before being packaged for shipment towards their final destination(s.)

A very similar process was dedicated to small Corvettes, as they’d have their component pieces forged in one section of the Deep Dock before being transferred to another - where the small warship would begin to take shape.

While the Castellum was capable of a great many things, at least in regards of producing starships, the true majesty of it’s design was the ability to connect itself with Three other stations of it’s series - and produce even larger starships that normally wouldn’t fit betwixt the deployable gantries. As one can imagine, having four of these stations together at once would drastically increase the production times on smaller craft - as they’d have more access to additional and redundant facilities. Larger craft would also find themselves produced much faster if more and more stations were connected. However, as more and more stations were connected - it became a consistent drain on the seemingly limitless wellspring of resources that Republic Engineering had at their disposal. So, it was only for very special projects that Republic Engineering would combine the efforts of multiple Deep Docks - preferring instead to spread out their Installations in the hopes of covering more ground, and absorbing more wartorn detritus from the spacelanes.

Thus, the REC-DSM/01 “Castellum” - Class Mobile Deepdock would prove itself to be an invaluable addition to the Corporation’s inventory, and likely give select clientele the ability to produce warships far away from prying eyes.
