SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Droid Brain with Heuristic Processors; Through the use of a Droid Brain, with integrated Heuristic Processors, the REC-CD-01 “Peon” Pattern Worker Droid is able to begin its operational life with a pre-programmed experience, that will adapt and grow overtime through the various experiences it may undergo. This almost “childlike” existence could, overtime, develop its own fully-fledged and individual personality, however, the engineers installed a behavioural inhibitor and creativity damper which restricted the path in which the droid’s brain developed.
Strengths:

 • Adaptive Maintenance and Labour Droid.

 • Multiple Armatures with Micro-Manipulators.

 • Treasure Trove of Onboard Maintenance Equipment and Cutting Tools.

 • Radiation Resistant.
Weaknesses:

 • Guess My Secret; Limited Vocabulary.

 • Limited Operations in the Vacuum. (Internal Starship Use Only.)

 • Pack Mentality.

 • Hulking; Limited Operation in Tight Spaces.

 • Lumbering; Slower than Average Human Speeds and Reaction Time(s).
DESCRIPTION

The REC-CD-01 “Peon” Pattern Worker Droid was the newest artificial service golem spawned by the Republic Engineering Corporation; to fulfill their need for a repair and maintenance automaton that was able to go, and do what was considered too hazardous to organic life. Unlike the many droids that began to populate the market, the “Peon” eschews the humanoid appearance favoured by their competition, and instead, purpose-built this robot to not only lift heavy loads, whatever they may be but to easily maneuver their seemingly disjointed armatures into places that sentient hands can rarely reach.

Equipped with a vast collection of tools, be internally stored or integrated into the automaton itself, the “Peon” Pattern Worker Droid ensures that it always has the tools on hand, to either repair or maintain whatever it is they’ve been ordered to restore. To this end, the memory core within the integrated droid brain was supplemented by heuristic processors, which allowed the base model to grow and develop as a sentient child would, however, as this ventured dangerously close to the uncertainties of artificial intelligence. Therefore, the automaton was fitted with an integrated behavioural inhibitor and a creativity damper, which effectively denied the machine the ability to become nothing more than a highly competent, and adaptive mechanic.

However, due to its non-humanoid design, the reported reaction times of the “Peon” make it difficult to react to developing crisis situations. While this meant that a single unit would be able to hold his own if a starship had employed the “Peon” as apart of their damage control team, there would be a lethargic response to new developments, should multiple calls for aid be made. It would be unable to handle multiple breaches effectively, or occurring issues, without external assistance from an organic operator or another “Peon” Unit in proximity.

As these additions were costly, the Republic Engineering Corporation had to cut corners to keep the droid within a profitable margin, meaning that some subsystems had to be removed, or even restricted to off-balance the expenses of the processor unit and the universal interface probes. Thus, the standard methods of communication seen in any droids had culminated in the most basic of affirmations programmed into a simple, monotonous, comms unit. With its vocabulary limited to only to ‘Yes’ or ‘No,’ the REC was not only able to keep churning out the highly modular droid at regular rates, but confuse the heck out of every Operator - or even Investigator that sought to interrogate, or bond with the automaton.

Guess My Secret; Limited Vocabulary.
To clarify, the "Guess My Secret" is the same thing as its limited vocabulary?

Pack Mentality.

Is this a reference to this?

It would be unable to handle multiple breaches effectively, or occurring issues, without external assistance from an organic operator or another “Peon” Unit in proximity.
