The REC-CBS/01 "Doombringer" - Pattern Combat Scattergun was the newest weapon produced by the Republic Engineering Corporation for use by their Security Forces, the Thyrsian Sun Guard, and select Clientele. The weapon’s conceptual origins began as an unspoken desire of the designers to supplement the Company's line of already successful Particle Beam weaponry. Those weapon platforms were remarkable in their own right, that much was true, however, they lacked a certain destructive flair when pitted in compromising situations. So, the design team set about rectifying this oversight by creating a slew of weapons to fill in the gaps.
From this endeavour, the first weapon they’ve created was the “Dommbringer.” It was designed with the idealized vision of perfection in mind, and the lofty goal of crafting the epitome of close-quarters weaponry. Thus - like many modern creations - the design team looked to their collective history to find inspiration. When they came across the Mandalorian Ripper, the design team believed that they found an ideal weapon to base their newest platform on. So, they extracted what information they had on the Ripper and sought to streamline it’s construction, essentially modernizing that ancient Mandalorian weapon.
With what Information they could recover, it was said that the weapon could punch through conventional deflector shields. However, what wasn’t mentioned alongside that potent lethality, was that the conventional deflector shields of that era weren’t outfitted with particle shielding - which meant that high-velocity slugs, encased in a plasmatic sheathe - would be capable of punching through the shields of that venerable era. The weapon was deadly but in the modern era? Such lethality was curbed by the advancements in shielding and the significant increase in their availability.
Yet, all was not lost.
When combined with the deadly and unstable properties of Particle Beam weapons, the Mandalorian Ripper regained it’s once feared legacy. It was true that the weapon was still unable to punch through conventional deflector screens, but the discharged shotshells would devastate unshielded targets with multiple micro-plasmatic explosions. With that being said, however, the weapon’s performance wasn’t stunted when faced against a shielded opponent - instead, the “Doombringer” would savagely chew through the projected barrier. The process wouldn’t be instantaneous, but with the rotary actuation and firing mechanisms? Conventional barriers wouldn’t last very long under a prolonged assault.
In true Republic Engineering Corporation fashion, the “Doombringer” was outfitted with a second attachment that could completely replace the primary firing mechanisms of the weapon with a mass-driven Grenade Launcher. Due to the properties of plasma-driven magnetic accelerators, it wasn’t hard for this module to easily adapt to the existing framework that was integrated into the Scattergun. Thus, the weapon could launch a veritable feast of tube-shaped charges and rain down death and destruction on distant targets; so long as they were able to line up the shot.
With both modules in hand, the “Doombringer” would not only live up to its on-the-nose appellation but swiftly smother the opposition with unparalleled close-quarters brutality.
