OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To flush out the botany of Mahporeem in a way that is thematically appropriate.

- Name: Razor Thistle.
- Origins: Believed to have evolved on the planet Mahporeem in response to the drastic environmental changes that have taken place on the planet.
- Other Locations: Unknown, but unlikely to have spread anywhere else.
- Classification: Weed.
- Average Growth Cycle: Generally takes one to two years at most.
- Viability: Razor Thistles are quite hardy, able to survive and thrive in even the poorest quality soils. In high quality soil, they can multiply exponentially if left unchecked. Razor Thistles only require a minimal amount of water to survive.
- Description: The Razor Thistle is an invasive plant species that is believed to be native to the planet Mahporeem. Able to survive in even the lowest quality soils, Razor Thistles can multiply at an alarming rate if left unchecked, and are considered to be a major threat to the few remaining Merzoidian farmers still attempting to do any sort of farming on the planet.
- Average Height: 0.6-1.2 meters.
- Average Length: N/A
- Color: Purple, green, orange or white.
- Nutritional Value: Razor Thistles do not provide any sort of nutritional value.
- Toxicity: Though they are described as tasting absolutely disgusting, Razor Thistles are not toxic.
- Other Effects: Their are no known effects of Razor Thistles.
- Distinctions: The Razor Thistle, as its name might suggest, has a number of razor sharp spines jutting out from the plant's base, making it difficult to remove by hand.
- Hardy: Razor Thistle is able to grow in even the worst quality soil.
- Invasive: Razor Thistle is able to multiply at an alarming rate if left unchecked.
- Razor spines: Razor Thistle gets its namesake from the razor sharp spines surrounding the bottom of the plant. This makes it difficult to remove the plant from the ground by hand.
- Taproot system: The Razor Thistle's taproot system makes it even more difficult to remove from the ground, especially by hand.
- Selective spread: While the spines of Razor Thistle make its removal as a whole difficult, the buds of the plant can be easily removed and spread from place to place.
- Minimal water: Razor Thistle requires only minimal amounts of water to survive.
- Long growth cycle: Though Razor Thistle is identified as a weed, it has a relatively long growth cycle of one to two years.
- Kill it with fire: Razor Thistle, like most plants, is susceptible to being burned and destroyed with flames.
- Frost and snow: Though Mahporeem is a relatively temperate planet, it is believed that extreme cold is quite effective at destroying Razor Thistle.
- Pesticide: To combat the spread of Razor Thistle, Mahporeem has produced a number of different pesticides than can be sprayed on the plant. All of these pesticides have proven quite effective, as Razor Thistle has little to no resistance against manufactured bio agents.
- Fragile: Though the spines of Razor Thistle can cause serious injury if touched or stepped on, the plant itself is quite fragile.
- Ugly: Though some might like the look of Razor Thistle, most would agree it is a rather ugly looking plant, making it more likely that the plant will be destroyed rather than ignored.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Razor Thistle has been a major nuisance to the few remaining farmers on Mahporeem for the last several hundred years. No one is quite sure where the plant first came from, though it is believed that Razor Thistle evolved in response to the drastic environmental changes that took place on the planet. In fact, their are no records of Razor Thistle in any Merzoidian accounts until the beginning of the Clone Wars, where major environmental damage to Mahporeem first began taking place.
Razor Thistle is classified as a weed, and is a highly invasive species. The plant is capable of surviving in the lowest quality soils with minimal water, though it can grow in a variety of soil conditions. In fact, when given good quality soil, Razor Thistle can grow exponentially, making it a major threat for anyone trying to do any sort of farming on Mahporeem whatsoever.
Even more worrying, Razor Thistle is immensely difficult to remove, especially by hand. The plant's taproot system, combined with the razor sharp spines that jut out from the base of the plant, makes its removal from the ground a major challenge. Getting rid of Razor Thistle usually requires the use specialized tools, machinery or droids, and even then success is not always guaranteed. The best way to get rid of Razor Thistle is to burn it, which may not always be a viable option depending on where it is growing.
