Description: Raziel originally built his pair of sabers as part of a test to prove that he was ready for knighthood. He had great experience of using knives before being recruited by a small Sith Order, and had started to develop a fighting style based around the use of a short and long blade in combination.
The notion of creating a dual-phase blade that switched from a short to ordinary length blade came to him after defeating a fellow trainee by switching long and short training blades, demonstrating his ambidexterity. However, creating such a compact dual-phase blade was a tricky endeavour. Rather than switching crystals, the internal mechanism shifts the secondary crystal in a fraction of a second to a second stable phase. The mathematics behind this construction was beyond Raziel, but the Force guided him to the correct solution. Even in long phase, the blade is not as long as many, as Raziel prefers to dual-wield, using a base of Jar’kai, with elements from other styles, including many older sword fighting techniques he has studied. Being able to switch the long and short blades, he is often able to keep an opponent from reaching a stable rhythm in defence.
When he awoke from his trance, he found the grip engraved with a bewilderingly complex pattern of swirls and symbols. Fractal in nature, this patter goes down many levels to the point where the smallest are barely visible to the human eye. Raziel is unaware than an artistic side of his mind, suppressed by an upbringing of abuse and control, had used the Force to decorate the hilt during his trance.
Several years later Raziel attempted to modify the blades to be completely dark and silent [can’t find the threads for this at the moment]. He failed and inadvertently changed the blade’s colours from orange and purple to teal and lilac with his tinkering. The sabers are now relatively quieter in operation, with the trademark “snap-hiss” significantly supressed.
