The Rathvin-class Frigate was a warship conceived for planetary defense, planetary assault, troop transport, and anti-starfighter operations. It was designed by Iron Wrath Industries, and produced by the Iron Empire. It saw use as part of the Iron Imperial Navy, serving the role of an Anti-Starfighter Frigate. Due to its crucial role, the ship was a common sight amongst Iron Imperial fleets.
In the pursuit of its primary role, the Rathvin was outfitted with a variety of anti-starfighter weaponry. This included: 40 Point Defense Cannons, 40 Anti-missile Octets, 40 Quad Laser Cannons, 40 Flak Cannons, and 15 General Purpose Warhead Launchers. This specialized loadout offered the vessel incredible anti-starfighter potential.
However, for this, the defensive capabilities of the Rathvin suffered. The power-drain of the myriad of weapons left the vessel with a rather meager deflector shield. This further compounded its ship-to-ship combat deficiency.
To offset this inadequacy, the vessel was equipped with incredibly powerful engines, and a myriad of maneuverability jets. With these, the vessel boasted incredible speed & maneuverability. Enough so, that few frigates could match it.
