Operation Womp Rat

Objective:

Minerva advanced carefully down a ruined hallway next to the wall, with her blaster rifle at the ready. Moving around her similarly were eleven Alliance troopers, mostly members of Gorgara Company saved for one. As the wind outside continued to blow they could hear metal creaking from one angle to another. Moving as silently as possible the Mandalorian and her squad-mates then entered the former engineering room.

Rust coated much of the walls and floors and several massive holes above shone rays of sunlight amidst the darkness. Time had been merciful to what once was a mighty warship. Noting different passageways a human sergeant in his early thirties named Cris Miaan raised a fist. The squad halted at his silent command, saying in their comms so no one will hear.

"Alright looks like we're going to split up if we're going to cover more ground. Gakot and Estelle take the left. Irni and Zaku double back and find some high ground, we're going to need that advantage just in case. Minerva you go with our marine guest and take the right. Morsil, I and everyone else will advance across that bridge ahead of us.

"Stay sharp and if you make contact with hostiles alert us all immediately."

"Copy that." Minerva said while others acknowledged the order similarly.

The armored woman glanced over to Alexander Hayes. Quite the tall fellow and quiet too. He had been in for this operation just hours before. He apparently had experience with Mawities and so thought he could add to the mission's success.

As long as he does his part I don't care how silent he is. She thought before gesturing for Hayes to follow. Subsequently she entered the mostly shadow claimed tunnel, making sure to check her corners carefully.

Alexander had been waiting for this day, for an opportunity to finally strike back at the Maw. Sure, it wasn’t exactly the largest operation, it wasn’t going to be the biggest critical hit against them. But it was something that would hurt them. A chance to start delivering retribution for Selvaris.

That was enough for the K’paur.

He only wished Aiden would’ve been at his side for this, he deserved to also strike back at the Maw for what they had done. But Alex knew there would be more opportunities for that in the future.

For this mission he was joining up with a group that comprised mostly of the Gorgara Company. The outlier; other than himself, was a Mandalorian by the name of Minerva Fhirdiad. Alex was surprised by that fact, but then realised he knew very little about how the Mandalorians were these days.

Back when he was part of the Alliance military proper, he had fought both against and with Mandalorians. He was familiar with their prowess in combat, and was curious to learn why one of their ilk would volunteer for the GA. But those were questions for another time, their focus was on the mission at hand.

The K’paur nodded at Miaan’s order, silently following Minerva as she led the way down into a shadowy tunnel. The desolate wreck seemed to creak and groan in tune with the weather outside. Alex kept his rifle at the ready, aimed ahead as they gradually made their way deeper in. As Minerva checked her corners, Alex mirrored the action with the others. So far there was nothing, and that didn’t sit well with the marine.

Too quiet…” He muttered quietly over comms shared between the two of them. “We’re encountering nothing, not even signs of someone being here recently.

"Yea…" The Mandalorian admitted to Alexander. The utter silence saved for the few noises caused by the elements made this all too strange. Intel could've been wrong but Minerva was not so sure about that. Just as they were about to move onto a corridor when suddenly a floor panel gave away in front of Minerva and leaping out was a shrieking skull face painted human in makeshift armor.

It was an ambush!

Minerva's instincts kicked in; she dodged to the left, letting him blast new dents on the roof with his scattergun. She retaliated with a three bolt burst into his chest point-blank range. The attacker cried out again but as his final breath. Then to her right sprang a Red Nikto, attempting to stab her neck with his vibro-lance. She managed to evade the side but the blade cut a new scratch mark on top of her left pauldron.

The Mandalorian then went low and spun around, kicking her second foe off his feet. Just as he collapsed with a loud thud Minerva was up and four blaster bolts into his gut area. While all this was happening Alexander was fighting his own attackers…
