Joury wanted a pair of knives that work for a variety of purposes in a variety of situations. She wanted them to be fairly easy to conceal and carry, to hold a sharp edge through a lot of wear and tear without needing sharpening after every use, and needed them to hold up even under the most rugged circumstances. The solution was a variation on ancient design, still respected for fighting, utilitarian, hunting, and other uses pretty much universally throughout the galaxy. Balanced, lightweight, sturdy, and hard to detect, these knives met and usually exceeded her every expectation.
