    Weight: 70 lbs (31.8 kg)

    • Outdated Model
    • Repurposed Function
    • Misses Old Friends
    Strengths:
    • Incredible Pilot
    • Great with Computers
    • Brilliant at Repairs

Appearance: Foray is a fairly typical R7-series astromech, although with a custom paint job that hides a lot of wear and tear. The Flotilla's technicians did a pretty good job of patching him up, but it's still easy to tell that he's an ancient model of droid. His new attachments don't quite fit properly, and his wheels often squeak when he rolls forward. He makes up for his apparent age with a lively spirit, trilling and rolling around in the quick, exuberant circles one would expect of a droid fresh off the production line.

  • They found him in a sealed storage room at the back of the ruined New Republic base on Birgis. The door had been covered by rubble, burying the bunker - and its contents - like a time capsule. Only that isolation, with thick durasteel walls holding out the planet's ravenous animals and crushing plant life, had saved the little droid inside. When he'd ordered the base searched, no stone left unturned, Fleet Marshal Rance Draysom had been hoping for very practical and ordinary discoveries - blasters, fusion lanterns, medpacs, fuel, starship replacement parts. But what he found when the reinforced doors were finally unsealed was quite different. He found a friend.

Almost eight centuries earlier, R7-4A had been cutting edge technology. Designed to help pilot the New Republic's brand new E-Wing starfighters, the most advanced dogfighting craft of their day, the little droid had a computer brain that could calculate fifteen consecutive hyperspace jumps in less than a second and an armored chassis that could withstand ion fire. In the last days that he remembered, R7 had seen combat. He had flown with the New Republic fleet at Helska IV, fighting off the Yuuzhan Vong in the earliest victory against the extragalactic invaders, but had been badly damaged in the fight. On Birgis he'd awaited repairs... which had never come.

The Verge Flotilla had no cutting-edge E-Wing fighters for Foray to copilot, so the fleet's technicians tinkered with him as they repaired him, fitting him with new attachments and downloading programming updates into him. The little droid became an expert slicer and repair bot in addition to his tremendous piloting and astrogation capabilities, and was soon seen assisting on many of the Flotilla's missions. What the technicians never changed was Foray's valiant spirit; he still had the personality of a starfighter droid, fearless in the face of evil, tireless in defense of his friends. It wasn't long before he was as much a paragon of the Flotilla as any Fleet Marshal.
