Intent: To create an effective hemostatic agent for use by combat medics and first responders

Development Thread: If Necessary

Manufacturer: RCFC Medical

Model: HA-1

Affiliation: Open Market

Modularity: No

Production: Mass

Material: Kaolin, Powdered Bacta

Strengths:
  • Effectively stops bleeding in all but the most severe wounds
  • Unlike other clotting agents such as zeolite, the kaolin base does not produce heat when working, which makes it safer both for medical personnel and the patient
  • Powdered bacta prevents infection and promotes healing
Weaknesses:
  • Not for use on patients with bacta allergy
  • May not be sufficient on its own to stop arterial hemorrhaging
  • May be harmful if swallowed or inhaled

Description: HA-1 is a granulated substance roughly the consistency of table salt. It comes in 50 gram packets that are stable for extended storage in a variety of conditions. It consists of two ingredients: kaolin, a chalky white mineral known for its absorbency, and powdered bacta. When it comes into contact with blood, the kaolin immediately promotes clotting, and the bacta helps fight infection and promotes healing.

To use HA-1, tear open sterile package and dump directly onto wound. Multiple packets may be used if necessary. Pack wound thoroughly, and then apply direct pressure via sterile dressing until bleeding stops. Do not attempt to remove dressing from wound, as it may bind with HA-1 and clotted blood. Removal might tear open the wound, resulting in further bleeding. Instead, secure with bandage or pressure dressing.

If at all possible, save at least one packet and attach it to the bandage, so medical personnel will know that HA-1 has been applied.

WARNING: Do not use on patients with known bacta allergy.

WARNING: May be harmful if inhaled or swallowed. Avoid contact with eyes or mucus glands.
