- The suppression band stores and regulates attractive fields of quintessence that keep Spencer's cells bonded and halt the degenerative effects that come when she is normally subjected to various forms of Force suppression (ysalamiri, void stone , Force suppressing resins, etc).
- A secondary effect is that the band heavily suppresses the psychological and neurological effects of the Phobis device still melded with her mind.
- When the band is active, Spencer suffers a massive suppression of her Force based abilities across the board, putting her on par with an apprentice level FU.
- Containing a sizable amounts of Quintessence to generate the attractive fields, the band can be quite dangerous to the user and those in the nearby vicinity in the event it is damaged. There's enough Quintessence stored to create a destructive explosion equivalent to a thermal detonator at full power.
- The effects of the band are specific to Spencer because of her unique physiology as a being literally constructed from pure Force energy. In most cases, it won't work on other FU unless they are similar to Spencer in that respect.
During the intermittent years between retiring from the Silver Jedi Order and reforming the Jedi Order, Jyoti spent much of her time studying the Force in depth, particularly the Cosmic Force. She had always been fascinated by that aspect of the Force and how it formed the building blocks of the universe and life.
By then, she had become friends with the Queen of Eshan, Spencer Varanin, and eventually learned about the peculiar circumstances of Spencer's conception. For Jyoti then, her friend represented an important link to better understanding the Cosmic Force. Moreover, in Spencer's case, she may finally understand the fatal risk of Force suppression tech used against her.
Running various experiments on tissue samples gathered from Spencer, Jyoti postulated that unlike normal matter, Spencer's body wasn't held together by any fundamental forces (e.g. electromagnetism) but rather pure psychic energy bonds of the Force. That's why she would literally begin to break down within the presence of a Force repelling bubble like those generated by a Ysalamir, as there was no longer anything holding her together at that time.
Jyoti drew upon her experience with Dark Energy for another experiment, crafting a special energy band that could manipulate Quintessence into attractive fields that could hold together Spencer's body as a different kind of fundamental interaction. The band itself was made from a special pyronium based alloy, able to create hyper-matrices to store and project Quintessence (originally generated by a Dark Energy reactor).
Her hypothesis seemed to be proved correct, as her tests were met with success on tissue samples. Finally she took the plunge with Spencer herself, which also resulted in success but brought on unforeseen consequences and secondary benefits.
With the band active and intact, Spencer no longer had to be worried about her body breaking down from Force suppression tech, but at the cost of most of her power being lost as her body was temporarily restructured on the sub-atomic level. This was particular problematic for Spencer, as she was once of the few Echani alive that had never learned to properly engage in martial arts or physical combat in general.
Spencer was soon enrolled in her first formal self defense course.
However, a important secondary benefit was also discovered. For once, the Phobis device that she had absorbed into her mind had been quieted, allowing her to act with a new clarity of mind that she hadn't known in years. For Jyoti, it was a bittersweet development, as she came to know the full extent of the extreme abuse suffered by Spencer over the years.
Her device couldn't fix the past, but maybe it could help her friend truly heal and become the great leader that Eshan sorely needs in desperate times.
