Pushing the Boundaries [PM for Invite]

Location: Obredaan
Objective: Acquire cortosis ore
Allies: [member=Kuvantu]
Enemies: Pirates!!!

Over the world of Obredaan a light dropship approached followed by a freighter and entered the atmosphere. Inside the starship was an entourage of excavators, security, and a few engineers including Lesana herself; the freighter in tow carried equipment, resources, and supplies. As the ships touched down on the planet everything seemed quiet; the swampy world was home to the Jin'ha, notorious for mining cortosis ore. The Primeval --through a crashed pirate's vessel on Gulamendis-- discovered coordinates to an abandoned mining facility located somewhere near their landing site. The world was by no means inhospitable but primordial swamps weren't exactly the most reliable terrain and depending on how old the facility is, it could've sunken down into the ground itself. Finding it -- let alone getting there -- would more than a challenge. Lesana's first task was to discover the source and utilize it in producing a cortosis-weave armour.

Lesana and crew exited their dropship, looking back to the freighter where a few hands were unloading crates and machinery. "Ma'am, we're going to move out towards the site now and secure the area. Once we give you the news you and the others will bring the equipment down: Only a few guards will remain to protect the ships.", the captain of their security force -- a scarred Umbaran -- spoke to Lesana directly. It was quite strange, she was still shaky from her indoctrination. Doubt rested in her mind and a member of the very people who captured her, who tortured her, called her 'ma'am' as if she was his superior. It was a feeling that sent a chill down her spine but that feeling itself was suppressed by the constant whispers in her head. The Gods, she could only think. Whatever they wanted she was eager in her own way to achieve their ambitions. Looking a way briefly she returned her gaze back to him and nodded without a word before turning back to the other engineers and helping hands. "Alright, listen up! I want the diggers prepped; it would be a shame for them to sink in the soft ground.", her stomach folded inward in nervousness. This was the first time she had given orders to anyone but there was something quite exciting about it, having others listen to her. She may have been indoctrinated but many of the traits that made her who she was remained. The others listened well, acknowledging each word she spoke with instant obedience. Another thing she was coming to enjoy. The security detail had proceeded towards the site with caution and a 'shoot first ask later' mentality. The remaining detail made sure the landing site was secure and doubled as Lesana's personal guard incase of a sudden ambush. There was no room for failure; their orders were quite clear: Get the ore and get out.

Planets like these were always looking for more labor. Kuvantu needed a personal weapon, and had the services the Jin'ha wanted, all in all a win-win situation.
The merchant was rude to say the least, but tolerable, scoffing at Kuvantu for what little he knew of the Jedi and Sith. All in all, he had traded one slave for the information, and the other for a blaster pistol, clips of orveth gas. Now carrying blaster pistol in one hand and two stasis collars in the other, he walked back to the location where he landed his fighter. It was an old, abandoned mining town, very similar to the one where he had traded his slaves.

As he approached his fighter, he began to hear a sound most peculiar, like the rumbling of an engine and a faint holler of a sapient voice. Someone, or a group of someones, was coming, and from the sound of it, quite fast. Kuvantu dashed towards his fighter as fast as his short legs could carry, he didn't want to be caught in a state such as this where he could do little but hide behind something and shoot this gun, no, he had to leave before whatever entity was coming towards him would have a chance to catch him off guard...

Obredaan. An ungrateful world of swamps, mines, and Jin'ha.

Well, it was better than nothing. Mad Klay Grubber, leader of the Grubber Brother Pirates was down on his luck -- most of his crew was dead, his ship stolen and those loyal to him marooned. What he did know was that a nearby abandoned mining complex was supposedly filled to the brim with cortosis ore. A find like this would be worth a lot on the right market and more than enough to get him back on his feet. With thirty-four men, and ten Kath Hounds the fractured crew of Klay Grubber made way in their speeders and swoops.

In his path near the front of the pack a Vagaari fighter sat quietly, "Call me a Hutt and paint me pretty!", the pirate said as his swoop halted to a dead stop, the rest of his crew circling their way towards the mining facility save for two followers that seemed to be his personal guards. A deep laughter followed his statement, not only was he face-to-face with untapped cortosis he had also found a rare fighter belonging to a race not seen in this part of the galaxy for centuries. "Barb, Rax. Check it out.", he looked to the two Lorrdian -- identical -- twin brothers on either side of his flanks. The two pushed forward on their swoops to investigate as the rest of his crew broke their way into the mine.

As the first of the swoops began to circle around his fighter he knew it was too late to charge into it. He skid on the dank, swampy ground and moved his feet to his right as to get cover behind an abandoned building. His back hit the wall in that instant, this would have to do for cover. The plain, brown robe blended in well with the rusted metal building, so he kept it on. There was an orveth gas clip already attached to the gun, but he knew not how many shots were left in it, if any at all. Perhaps one of them would notice, hopefully going too fast to stop before Kuvantu was able to get on the move. Kuvantu couldn't tell what their numbers were, but it was safe to assume a lot; safety in numbers. Now it was time to wait.

The Primeval security detail maintained its course towards the facility and was nearing the outskirts and from there the noise of swoops was loud enough to be heard over a distance of about a mile. The Umbarans shrunk down and and crouched their way through the bog before stopping at a small ridge overlooking the place. Rusted metallic structures covered in moss and sunk slightly into the ground stood before them. One of them nodded without word to the Captain of their team and slid down the slope with a four others in behind, nine others stood back with their Captain and awaited the point team's scouting report.

Meanwhile Lesana eagerly paced back and forth at the land site, where five other guards sat idly around about two dozen or so others. She had a strange headache when she tried to recall more recent events; she trusted The Primeval, they saved her from death -- The Gods did. Still there was something screaming inside her and it made her very afraid. Afraid of what might come out. She shook her head to dull the pain when a hand was placed on her shoulder; startled she stumbled back falling into a particularly muddy puddle. Grime covered her white tanktop and brown work slacks; not that she minded the filth too much -- it came with the job. Needless to say though, it wasn't particularly comfortable. She was about to protest until she turned back and saw one of the slaves, a Twi'lek who had been captured at some point and forced to conduct labour. She felt somewhat sympathetic towards him, but knew he was an unfaithful; unproductive conversations were forbidden. "What?"
, she said in a hushed tone to avoid attention from the guards. The twi'lek man looked to her with discernment, his eyes were empty and full of sorrow and pain. His lips moved silently before he pulled his hand away which had still been reaching out somewhat and then trotted off in a few skips and sat down with the other slaves. They had finally unloaded the equipment and the guards usually didn't mind them taking a break when work wasn't needed to be done. In fact, they seemed just as tired.

The pirate gang had taken up point inside the mine itself. About half of them set up point at the entrance , meanwhile the other half as well as the Kath hounds went deeper. The hounds sniffed out potential trouble and were great at tracking down runaways in a raid. Klay on the other hand was sitting back near the fighter they found, his two closest men having scouted it ahead of him and all of his company completely unaware of The Primeval scout team that entered the complex. Sitting back he overviewed the fighter and glanced back towards the mine now and again. Rax and Barb had circled the fighter and noticed a single figure hiding near the ship. The two gestured to each other silently using kinetic communication, "We got one.", Rax said to his identical brother. Although they looked the same the two were quite different. Rax was trained in marksmanship and recon, whilst on the other hand Barb was more skilled in explosives and hand-to-hand combat. Barb didn't even need to respond he let out an audible snort -- well audible to him but not over the sound of the swoops -- and stopped his bike along the rear flank to prevent a runaway. Rax swung back around and set up on a higher vantage point, taking off his ranged rifle and stalking the figure's shadow with his scope.

Klay was well aware of what was going on when Rax took out a piece of glass, using the sunlight to reflect a signal back to him. Taking out a blaster pistol, Klay fired a single shot just over the canopy of the fighter. "Alright, pal! Time to come on out.", he exclaimed after silencing his own swoop and stepping off, approaching the position.

Kuvantu sighed and breathed deeply as he saw the shot go over the roof of the building. There was no choice but to risk it. He pressed a button on the side of his small blaster pistol, the gas canister popping out and landing on the ground, quickly exchanging it for another from the goods he had bought without little more than a word. At least one of the swoops had cut off, that much he could hear, but the chaotic rumbling of one of their engines still hummed on. There was at least one more, and Kuvantu doubted that said bike would be following the voice nor the soft footsteps. This was bad, very bad. The Vagaari hoisted his pistol, now most definitely in a state of fight or flight. His finger rested heavily on the trigger, waiting to fire as soon as anything came into view.

When he saw the shadow of Klay, his finger tensed even more. He waited until anything substantial came around the threshold of the building's wall before to pull the trigger, sending a red bolt of superheated orveth particles towards whatever came in its path, be it a wall or man.

The security detail's scouting team made way around towards the facility. The sound of the stray blaster shot was heard from their position but due to the angle they were a nothing was seen. One of the squad members noticed a bunch of rugged swoop gangers holding up near the entrance of their target facility. "This is Scout Team to Detail. It looks like Pirates are holding up the facility.", the scout leader sent the message back over short-ranged secure intercom. The Captain of the detail thought carefully on how to handle this.

"This is Captain Aavlo to Scout Team. Proceed to set up a parameter, we're going to hit them hard.", after sending out his orders he gestured to the rest of the team to slide down the slope. Each of them finding making their way through the complex towards the target structure. Back at the landing site Lesana sat quietly just as earlier, reviewing a set of documents on her datapad to identify potential uses for Cortosis weave. She was quite intelligent in that she could understand the benefits of the ore and knew well enough that it was sought after in Armourtech.

Klay cautiously positioned himself around the corner of the main building peaking only briefly before tossing a credit chip out as an unorthodox signal to have Rax flush him out. The Lorrdian sniper fixed his scope, although the target wasn't directly in view there was enough for him to get a dangerously close shot. Barb noticed this from his position and began moving around the fighter, hiding between a few derelict crates and preparing to move in for the tackle. Rax took his charged shot, sending a bolt of orange particles outward. After the shot Klay dive rolled towards a pile of steelcrete rubble, hiding behind it as a cover point.

The shot took him too much by surprise, and he instantly jumped back and tried to shoot at the form that dived to another building, but missed horribly, the red orveth pommeling into a distant metal wall. He shouted a curse in Vagaari- an odd dual-toned language to most of the galaxy that was only possible via the races two mouths- and began to step back, unaware of the man hiding behind him, preparing for a tackle, in fact he could care less, only wanting to get out of sight from whatever had nearly sent blaster gas coursing through his brain. The two stasis collars, looking little more like some kind of aesthetic piece to the common eye, remained in his left hand. Kuvantu slowly turned his body, but not his head, to the left, his right arm extending as he fired off another shot towards the general direction of Klay.

He was now taking a sort of hopping side step akin to a gallop away from where he was before.

The security team continued to approach the facility -- again aware of the sounds west of their position but ignoring it -- and hunkered down behind a rubble structure where they met with the security team. "Move out!", he ordered across all of them and immediately the fifteen of them launched their assault on the unsuspecting pirate. Firing blaster bolts near the entrance wave followed by a few light grenades to avoid bringing the whole place down.

In the distance back at the landing site the sound of the attack carried, Lesana had just finished brushing the grime off her clothing but it had already left a stain; again she didn't care too much about it. Still, it was the few articles of clothing she had that she liked. The slaves were back to work preparing the convoy to roll out and begin unearthing the ore trapped in the abandoned facility. The guards who stayed back were prodding anyone who fell behind and threatening punishments worse than the last they've received. The Twi'lek from earlier was always looking back towards her, leaving a somewhat sorrowful feeling in her chest, her heart skipping a few beats as her stomach churned at the thought of how their life must be like. Almost immediately following her head began to hurt and produce images of her torture experience, images that have since been drowned deep into her thoughts. The grace of the Gods was all she could think about: They saved her from death. She shook her ahead to dull the pain and got back up to approach the crew and prepare to head out.

Klay was immediately thrown off by the sudden attack on his men and almost launched himself to his feet in a rescue attempt but remembered that there was someone out there who nearly blew his head clean off. Rax fired a miss shot when Kuvantu made a move out of line of site and currently lost the target but Barb got a close look and made a run for it, attempting to tackle the foe. In the meantime the Kath hounds deep inside the mind began going crazy towards the outside commotion, howling fiercely and trying to escape the leashes of the beast masters. A few of the Pirates doubled back to reinforce their allies as by the sound of it, the enemy had numbers.

"Did not expect this...", Klay mumbled to himself; thinking over whether or not he was in over his head when he thought this was a great plan. He already lost his ship and most of his crew during the mutiny and wasn't about to let any more die but it was becoming too late. Left and right a few of his men were dying at the entrance, leaving only around 8 of the 14 who were stationed there alive and boggled down. Whoever these attackers were they were well-trained and not unused to combat.

Barb was able to completely take him by surprise as he turned around to make a run for it. His legs were crushed to say the least. The heavy (assumably) man had pinned his shoulders to the ground, making him drop his blaster and an ill-handled stasis collar. Kuvantu promptly bit the man's left arm with his left mouth. Blood squirted into his mouth, he wasn't biting hard enough, so he bit harder until the brawler's arm would recoiled, and in that moment he made a motion to lock the stasis collar around the man's neck.

Barb let out a holler as Kuvantu bit into his arm, the buffer twin was then caught off-guard when the stasis collar was placed around his neck; numbing his senses. Barb tried to maneuver himself but inevitably felt his entire body tense up and begin to take more effort to move and eventually he could do nothing more than kneel in place, feeling a numbed pain in his arms as his nervous reactions were dulled to the point he was basically paralyzed. Rax's heart raced heavily at the turn of events and despite being a great shot was too anxious to close in, afraid of accidentally shooting his brother. Instead he slid back down and kept his weapon fixed. Gesturing for the foe to back up and surrender, cautious of what could happen to his only brother. Klay on the other hand had just peaked around the corner -- consistently glancing back to the battle not too far from them. He knew that Rax and Barb were his two best mates but allowing the rest of his crew to die was not an option, so with that he charged his way towards the facility.

Inside the mine the Kath hounds grew restless as they went into the very heart of the facility. Before their very eyes countless crates of already harvested cortosis ore sat still and ageless. Whatever caused this mine to be abandoned was beyond them. Back near the entrance, however, the battle raged -- six reinforcements came to support the eight men and women who were left. Only twenty of his thirty-four , excluding Rax, Barb, and himself were left alive. And even at that they continued to dwindle.

The security team continued to push harder at the entrance when three of them approached from behind carrying a small case. Opening it up they began assembling a repeating blaster cannon, the other members of their team closed in around them to assure that they weren't singled out by the Pirates but much to their luck the enemy force was in disarray due to the surprise ambush. So far only three of the fifteen had died leaving them at twelve, compared to that they must have killed nearly five times as many themselves.

Back at the landing site the slaves had loaded up the machinery and equipment on the speeder transports and made their way towards the complex, Lesana rode with the security team at the head of the pack and continued to think about why she was here but her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of repeating blaster fire. The security team had finally assembled the weapon and began to cut down on the Pirates guarding the entrance.

As soon as he saw the rifleman he went to lift up his right arm, only to see no blaster. He looked back, it was on the ground, he had let go of it during the struggle. The other one was still somewhere behind him, there was too much risk at this vantage point, he needed to get closer to the rifleman if he had a chance of incapacitating him, or at least take his gun. Kuvantu lifted himself from the ground and lifted his arms to the side, his elbows bent at a 90° angle. A thought rushed to his head, a new plan, perhaps he could trick this man.

Kuvantu spoke only with his right mouth, "Let me go, let me get my things, and I show you how to wake your comrade." The sentence seemed almost forced, as how one who learned to speak a language through teaching actually had no applicable use of said language before. He inched away from the slumped, sleeping body of Barb as the gunman got closer, towards the remaining stasis collar, hoping that the one holding a gun to him didn't notice it leave his hands during the short brawl.

Klay rushed to where his pirates were only to watch them get cut down by blaster fire. Every one of them at the entrance was dead, only twenty of his crew, excluding himself, Rax,and Barb were left. Over a third of them dead. Jumping behind more rubble, Klay was visibly upset; these men were his friends and he only had himself to blame. He may have been a somewhat ruthless pirate but he cared deeply for his crew, they were like a family. Sitting behind the rubble he took out his two blaster pistols and planned to follow the party from behind and hopefully get a few good shots so they could get out of this mess alive. Fighting outside was one thing, but in that mine they had the advantage, the Kath hounds.

The hounds themselves could smell the enemy approaching inside and at this point the handlers let them loose. Ten rushing towards them, ready to rip and tear through armour and flesh.

Back where Rax was he had the target in his scope and became worried at the statement Kuvantu made. They weren't entirely unfamiliar with stasis devices but he didn't want to take any chances with his brother. It was taboo to some of his race to speak so Rax gave a few short words. "No. You let him go. I let you go.", he said with determination.

The security team made its way into the mine after clearing out the pirates at the entrance. However things took a turn for the worst. Ten kath hounds charged from corners with agility and ferocity; tearing them apart indiscriminately. Immediately there were two deaths and their thick hides were taking the light blaster fire by the shot , making them difficult to put down. The struggle didn't last long, only a minute or two at most, but when it was over several of the hounds were dead and the remaining ones retreated out of the facility behind them. The twelve who entered were now seven, a heavy loss and little did they know that twenty others were ahead of them.

Lesana traveled with the remainder of the security team, the slaves, and labourers. They had come towards the complex now in site and prepared the slow decent to prevent flipping on the haulers which used treads due to their size and cargo needs. As her speeder went down the slope she could've sworn she saw an odd looking fighter craft in the distance but she was still undergoing a headache that blurred her long-ranged vision.

Kuvantu sighed as he pressed a few buttons on the stasis collar, "Press the green button on the front of his neck, that will wake him."
Kuvantu rolled the figure onto its belly before briskly jogging towards and grabbing both the other stasis collar and blaster. He raised his pistol as soon as he got to the other side of the building to make sure the rifleman wasn't attempting to ambush him. He ran at an angle towards his ship, keeping the blaster pointed towards the possible assailant, ready to fire at him if he decided to back out on their deal.
