SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Ripple Fire
Given its quad-cannon design configuration, the PT-11A Mk. II is able to deliver constant volley-fire via alternating fire patterns across its individual cannons, thus increasing the battery’s overall rate of fire. This allows for rapid and consistent damage output while mitigating heat build-up and recoil (to a certain extent) on any one cannon.
  • Massed Volley
With enhanced stopping power and rate of fire, combined with relatively inexpensive mass production rating, the PT-11A Mk. II can overwhelm defenses via massed fire from multiple batteries installed upon the same vessel. Further, its software is made to become more efficient the more of them there are on a given ship. In short, the more PT-11A Mk. II’s you have aboard, the more effective your turbolaser volleys will be.
  • Workhorse
As a refinement to the PT-11A, the Mk. II variant establishes the model as a stable and reliable weapon platform. When its host ship is under the most dire of circumstances, the PT-11A Mk. II will be among the last of the ship’s systems to fail - firing until the last.
  • Advanced Tracking
With its suite of highly advanced target acquisition and tracking systems, smartgunner chipset, capacitor components, and streamlined mechanical design; the PT-11A Mk. II is extremely accurate, even against smaller and more agile capital ships. The DB-SR01x Powerslave Droid Brain further allows for efficient use of manpower, facilitating tactical flexibility both aboard capital ships and on the field.
WEAKNESSES
  • Large & Heavy
Although the increased mass of the PT-11A Mk. II directly correlates to an increase in damage output by virtue of its quad cannon configuration, the fact remains that the platform is notably bulkier and heavier. While this is not prohibitive, it is still a factor to keep in mind when outfitting smaller vessels; elevating this weapon system to ‘main armament’ status on smaller capital ships by virtue of its footprint and tonnage as opposed to its overall damage output.
  • Recoil
Despite GDI’s improvements in both stopping power and rate of fire with this variant, they could do little to improve the recoil effect of the weapon system. Some consider it a victory that it didn’t get worse, yet it is still a notable weakness to be mindful of. Prolonged bombardment can cause additional strain on the system’s tracking software to compensate for recoil drift, thus increasing the risk of inaccuracy should the tracking system be disrupted in the process.
  • Energy Drain
As one might expect, providing 4 turbolaser cannons within the slightly larger outline of a normal emplacement causes marked increases in power demand. It is imperative that this weapon system be paired with a reliable and robust energy source, otherwise some of the advanced features will lag behind in their intended purpose.
  • Point Defenseless
While the PT-11A Mk. II is an excellent weapon system against capital grade ships big and small, and its tracking software is second to none; its articulating mechanisms are not designed for picketing or point defense applications against starships, as they are simply too slow to compensate.
DESCRIPTION

As part of its initiative to refine and streamline production of its older technologies, GDI saw fit to revamp the design of its aging PT-11A Quad Turbolaser series, thus releasing the Mk II. variant. Among the improvements is a noted increase in both rate of fire and damage output, while improving overall combat effectiveness and reliability.

The result is a stable workhorse of a weapon system that anchors GDI’s line of starship weaponry, in an age where simple and straightforward can be taken for granted in favor of the novel and untested. The PT-11A Mk. II excels at being “rather straightforward” against capital-grade ships both big and small, providing steady and constant turbolaser fire in support of larger munitions to weather down enemy defenses.*
