Death to Traitors.

Damian sighed as the chants of the protesters played in his head, the situation had changed a tad. Not that he disagreed with the notion of punishment on those who betray Teta, but optically it gave the young du Couteau heir pause for concern. He was in a rather precarious situation as the current Senator and campaigning to be elected to be the next term’s Senator as well. He had a foot in both the Tetan’s view and his other colleagues within the Senate Halls on Fondor.

It is important to keep both eyes from widening too much.

Public executions of prisoners was not something Damian wanted the rest of the Alliance to see on their news slate. Even if it ended up being just a small footnote to the greater galactic events that day. The ongoing war with the Sith certainly drew the vast majority of attention, so small miracles do happen to Damian as he considered how to properly play the situation here on his home planet.

The quick and swift push for justice with an even swifter execution with no room for appeal. The lengthier option to scrutinize the evidence and deliver a fair judgement with reasonable punishments that match the degree of criminality.

Damian knew that the first would better help appease the majority of Tetans and might even help the Regency Council to nominate him for Senator once again. The issue of course was that the first option was rather optically challenged. Not that he expected much push-back from the Senate, there were rather more important issues than some Core World being rather macabre with their judicial system.

No, but I imagine most would raise an eyebrow if when asked how certain we were of their guilt we only offered a small shrug and ‘close enough.’

He knew very well that many of those imprisoned were guilty of treason, the bank reports and deep analysis of encrypted messages made it quite clear. There were other cases though that seemed a bit fringe but Damian had subtly pushed for their arrest all the same. The Intelligence Director had a bit less to say on that matter, but Damian danced around that political land-mine successfully.

The Regency Council would love nothing more than to pilfer through more wealth of disgraced or hallowed out Noble Houses.

Damian’s own political rivals had little to say as well, which was as intended, Damian knew full well how attacks against them would appear to the public. So he targeted their most fringe allies that would cause the least amount of fuss. He wasn’t as morally deficient to allow innocents to hang as some of his rivals made him out to be, but Damian had noticed as of late he was rather ruthless.

I’m not a bad man, but I have to ask myself: What would a bad man do?

He pinched his nose as another sigh escaped his lips, Damian realized that he lost track of time and moved with haste to attend his next meeting. While his stance on these upcoming trails on Teta was fluid, he needed to act as if he had firm opinion on the matter. Certainty often gave people a sense of relief and calm, and Damian needed as much relief and calm for the next phase of his plan.

I just need to clean up a few more pawns off of this chess board.
