Suggestion Proposal: Super Star Destroyer Slot System

Good evening Chaos! I have a proposal for updating the rules regarding Super Star Destroyers on Chaos.

Overview:

Super Star Destroyers have existed on Chaos under several different systems, and each version has room for improvement its own way. When acquisition is tied strictly to PVP, these ships are so rare that they are almost never seen in play. While this preserves their prestige, it also means they rarely contribute to ongoing stories or strategic decision making.

When acquisition was tied to PVE, the opposite problem appeared. Active factions could reliably earn multiple Super Star Destroyers in a short period of time, which caused them to become common rather than exceptional. In both cases, once a faction acquired one, it often became something to protect rather than use, largely due to uncertainty around what happens if it is damaged or destroyed.

This proposal aims to strike a middle ground that keeps Super Star Destroyers meaningful, usable, and integrated into the game without overwhelming the system or staff.

How it Works:
  • Super Star Destroyers are tied to slots based on territorial control rather than being one time rewards from specific events.
  • Major Factions earn one Super Star Destroyer slot for every thirty hexes they control. (With Staff retaining final authority over the ratio)
    • (e.g., Sith Order would have four slots under this system)
  • Each slot allows a faction to submit and operate one Super Star Destroyer through the Factory using existing rules.
  • Staff will create a Super Star Destroyer Registry thread, where each Major Faction is responsible for posting and tracking its own hex count, available slots, and approved Super Star Destroyer submissions.
  • Each Major Faction is responsible for keeping its registry post accurate and up to date as its territory or Super Star Destroyer status changes.
  • If a Super Star Destroyer is destroyed, the faction retains the slot and may rebuild or submit a new ship.
Conclusion:

This system allows Super Star Destroyers shine anew in stories by giving factions clear freedom to use them in diplomacy and high stakes plots (heists anyone?), so long as all involved parties agree and the rules around available slots are respected. As faction territory grows or shrinks, factions are responsible for keeping their registry posts accurate, ensuring that their available slots and assets always reflect their current standing.

Staff involvement remains intentionally light, with the bulk of staff involvement being typical factory review. Day to day tracking is handled by factions themselves, and Chaos has a long standing culture of accountability where factions are quick to notice and address each other's inconsistencies when they appear.

Overall, this proposal keeps Super Star Destroyers special without locking them away, supports multiple playstyles, and fits naturally into how Chaos already operates. It turns these ships into active parts of the game world rather than static achievements, strengthening both storytelling and long term faction play.

What do you think Chaos? Would this system work for you?

The Illuminated, Chosen Of The Maker
I think this would be a really good Idea.

My only thought to this is if this were to be added the Eternal Fleet mandate(if a Major ever uses it) should get a free slot otherwise it would be impossible for them to gain a SSD(unless the ratios were super low) and I feel like it would be wrong for the fleet based mandate not to be able to use a SSD

I liked the previous SSD system. Yes, it flooded active factions with SSDs, but I never really saw the issue with that, because fleeting on Chaos is practically non-existent and the real die-hard fleeters usually prefer smaller-scale engagements anyway.

Super Star Destroyers have always felt more like set-pieces and narrative devices. To explore unique concepts with no limits to the imagination. And when that is the case, what does it really matter if factions have 1, 10 or a hundred even?

But I recognize that staff views it as an issue when they are too easy to get, so I have been chewing on an alternative system that would give some slack compared to how tricky it is to get one now.

This version I like though. It still utilizes the map game to determine how many a faction can have, it won't get as silly as the previous system before the current one and it does actually guarantee that if you are moderately active on the map that you will get a SSD at some point if you keep posting.

That seems fair to me.

I like this idea as well, adding benefits to mandates is always a good thing in my mind.

As you mentioned, SSDs have mostly existed as set pieces, but I think this new system makes them viable as actual weapons rather than just scene dressing. At the same time, it keeps them rare, avoiding the issue of too many SSDs appearing even if they aren't actively used. Me personally, I love my big boats.
