Promotion to Glory (Maelion/Bellalika)

Night had fallen upon the surface of Corellia, though few would be truly slumbering in the metropolis, when an upon first sight unremarkable freighter ship burst out of hyperspace, exiting the shimmering blue tunnel and, as the lines of real space formed before it, speeding towards the planet and entering the atmosphere.

Its destination was a private hangar that was corporate owned after transmitting the right codes. The craft itself was hardly the most expensive and unremarkable, the purpose of the visit anything but. Behind the controls of the vessel sat Moira Skaldi, alias Ruby, terrorist for hire, alias Nalia Alderana, co-owner of Archangel. In secret murderous killing robot - in her eyes perfect.

As the ship, moving on autopilot steered the hangar she sent a wireless transmission to her partner in crime, Maelion Liates, currently more publicly known in the business community as Alexia Comnena. One of the very few people Moira would genuinely consider an equal - because she was like her. The message was simple, to the point, no wasted time with pleasantries or assurances that she was alright. Machines did not waste time with idle chatter to state the obvious. "I have a candidate for ascension."

All that was needed to get the machinery going. While the reply would no doubt come she arose from the pilot seat and walked out of the cockpit, her steps light and soft, barely making a sound, towards the medbay. Upon the bed lay a still unconscious and heavily sedated young Zeltron by the name of Bellalika, who had taken quite a hit from falling off the roof of the Imperial Tower during the battle for Atrisia. One might note that there was a bit of a tear in the space-time continuum as it was unclear whether the battle was still taking place or not!

One of the Empire's force adepts, according to Moira's information head of her own corporation. The data Moira had on her would be transmitted to Maelion along with the brief message, also including a visual of the candidate.

Her injuries from taking a freefall were significant...soon they would be irrelevant. For by the time the process was complete Bella would be made perfect.

"Bring them to the chamber at once," Maelion's reply came swiftly.

Soon Moira appeared with the life support cask. Their subject was badly injured and would not survive long, but long enough.

"She must have her brain scanned first whilst she is still alive. Ensure she is sedated and connect her. The processing of the body can be done after she is dead," she added callously.

@Bellalika would be dead soon one way or the other, but the HRDs were not cruel, just efficient. The woman would remain sedated and alive as long as she was needed, then released from her torment.

HRDs were not cruel. Sadism had no place in their programming. They were not designed to act out base desires and lust at torment. But equally mercy was alien to them. Organics were crude, weak, useful only for processing or to use as cannon fodder. Bellalika had been chosen to be ascended. Many were called but few were chosen for the Age of Steel. "We will require chemicals so that her body can simulate Zeltron pheromones for her to pass."

Contrary to popular belief strictly speaking it would be more accurate to refer to organic as opposed to human replica droids, though humans were the most common. The life support cask would be wheeled into the chamber by a service droid. The entire facility was automated, for droids did not need to be paid, they did not eat or sleep, just required maintenance. The walls were a sterile white and the entire chamber was an exemplar of cleanliness. Cleanliness is next to godliness Moira's mother had been wont to say, when she had not been embittered about being banished from the royal court. Moira had realised early on how insignificant that was given that all of Artam lived in ignorance and superstition.

Another line from that time seemed more appropriate to the situation: What is dead will never die, but rises again stronger and harder.

She quickly went about her work. The chamber was dominated by a series of rather complex machinery, the most important for now being the scanning device, which broadly speaking resembled an MRI tube into which the subject, in this case Bellalika, would be wheeled into after Moira assured herself she was unconscious, giving her a dose of sedatives via injection, and hooking her up to the device. Then, as the subject was pushed in, Moira stepped aside to walk over to the command console so that the scanning might be performed to map her brain. The process was intensive and perhaps the most important, for the organic brain was a complex thing.

What Bella might be dreaming during these moments of deep coma, the few moments before she would perish and arise anew, would be a mystery to the HRD, but machines were focused on the task.

Bellalika was unconscious and she didn't really know what else to do. The entire event of falling from the tower was like a bad dream she could awaken from while trying to move. Which only served no purpose, she couldn't feel her body, her head was safe somewhat, she had only felt her back break and the loss of all movement below her head before she had been smashed into the ground. Now as she laid there briefly she had opened her eyes to see the woman with blonde hair standing over her but it was like a drug induced haze. There was less to no pain and more just her mind wanting to shut down. The shock and pain bringing a fresh wash of fear that she couldn't move until the euphoria of the drugs and her eyes went closed again.

Maelion ensured everything was processing correctly. The stream of data exerted the full power of their equipment, but it was holding up to the strain. It was some time before the full download was completed and checked.

With this done Maelion went and looked down on their second subject. Then, without a trace of emotion or pity, she injected a powerful drug into @Bellalika’s neck. The organic died. Maelion watched without expression, and then helped Moira carry the broken body and lay it in the scanner.

“The chemicals have been artificially synthesised before. We can arrange for projectors to be installed. Will this one know she is ascended, or will she continue to believe she is an organic?” Maelion asked as she closed the lid.

The scan begun, and soon Bellalika will arise once more…perfected.

Another subject had been ascended. Processing was the technically accurate description, but it was something more. The machine did not age, it was free of the organic weakness that was emotion, driven by logic. Organics dreamed, machines made perfection come true. Their processing device was operating most efficiently, though in time it would be advisable to create a mobile processing station. Not only to ensure faster and speedier work, but also because one had to calculate in the possibility of their facility being compromised.

Moira gazed upon the scanning device as the lid was closed and she received the query from Maelion. She weighed the options briefly, from the perspective of an organic the decision-making process would take place in the blink of an eye. As an organic Bellalika had been a forcer, so far Moira knew, but a machine could not use 'force powers'. Maintaining the illusion would breed...complications, unless memories were altered. Moreover, sufficiently perceptive force masters could detect that she was not organic. The emphasis being on perceptive - a certain ceiling dropper had probably been too interested in admiring Maelion's assets to see past the perfect exertior when they had first met.

'Rebecca Novar' had pegged Moira for force dead or a machine when she had come to Atrisia as an emissary of the Protectorate not so long ago. Back when she and Maelion had still been taking orders from crude inferiors. "She shall know the truth of her ascension and serve us knowingly. The ties to her organic delusions shall be cut."

“Agreed. She shall know.”

Days passed. It was a delicate process, the processing of an organic. Soon the metal body was being fabricated and assembled and the mind of the droid was being programmed.

Finally, it was time for the Zeltron to arise. Standing over her like pleased parents, Maelion and Moira flipped the switch to bring @[member="Bellalika"] into her new life…a new life where she would be an agent of their destruction.

Bellalika's eyes shot open when the flip was switched, she couldn't.... recall what had happened or didn't know what was supposed to be. Her body rose as she took in the two above her. Her body sat up while she looked around the room and new sensations came to her... Or something. The room was nothing... blank. She remembered sensations and emotions but couldn't bring herself to think about them while the memory of being shot in the back brought her arm around and she tapped the spot that Kitt Solo had shot her. Her other hand went to her face that had been shattered, her back she remembered feeling it break before she spoke her voice sounding foreign to even herself. "How? I recall falling and you."

"Your organic shell was shattered. It is inevitable. Whether through violence or through age and decrepitude, all organics eventually break. We have rebuilt you so that your skills are not lost. You have been ascended and are now...magnificent. You are a machine covered in organic form so that you can assist us in our task. The only task which requires completion - the total destruction of all organics."

Bellalika might probably have found this an unappetising notion before...but certain changes had been made to her restarted mind which made it seem so...reasonable, so fair. And, after all, she was already a machine, why waste sentiment on worthless organics?

@[member="Bellalika"], @[member="Tegaea Alcori"]

"You have been ascended...to immorality. Made strong, immaculate. All organics who are worthy will be likewise...made perfect. The unworthy must be exterminated. They are crude and weak. In their arrogance they believe the superior machines serves them. In time our numbers shall be legion and they will be wiped out," Moira spoke emotionlessly as she and Maelion looked upon their newest creation.

Could machines feel pride and satisfaction? Of course officially they would deny that, yet the entire notion of cleansing the Galaxy in a quest for purity was a very organic one. Without being programmed to imitate the organics they sought to destroy, neither Moira nor Maelion would have formulated such goal.

Bellalika..... understood. Or something she knew what they were saying and even wanted to say she was a real girl not some machine but she could remember feeling her back break. She knew full well she had been dying and then Moira had saved her or brought here here. He gave a chuckle kind of. "Pretty girl saved me from the battle. I don't remember much but I owe my new existance to you both. So what do I need to do now?"

@[member="Bellalika"] @[member="Siobhan Kerrigan"]

“You will assist us in bringing down the organic order and ushering in the Age of Steel. Your first purpose will be to obtain information which might help us in the design of a new ship for the cause.”

“There is an individual on Corellia who holds this information, and it must be extracted from him by any means necessary. However, your involvement, and that of Archangel, cannot come to light. Do you understand?”

She transmitted information to the other two HRDs regarding a certain engineer living in Coronet City.

@[member="Bellalika"], @[member="Maelion Liates"]

It was a bit of an irony, but way back close to the end of her period of service with the Protectorate Moira had abducted an engineer in order to 'persuade' her to provide a revolutionary reactor core for the construction of the Leviathan battleship, by orders of then Protector Alcori. Since the boss was Neutral Good and the engineer was useful, she had survived.

Moira wordlessly acknowledged the information as it was transmitted through the wireless link. "It is imperative that the truth does not come to light until we are ready. We use finesse, not crude battering ramming. Nor are we bound by archaic moralistic inflexibilites." As an organic Bellalika had also been in charge of a weapons corporation called Praestigiae Shop. Once the newly risen HRD had adjusted to its existence this connection would be utilised to provide the Age of Steel with new tech, the better to avoid discovery by deflecting attention from the Archangel corporation.
