Promoting to knight? (Advice Needed)

I've never really promoted anyone before as I've only had two chars of my own ever make it to knight level. That being said I have a few excellent writers who are FU's in my faction and would like to know more about how it's done.

Can I do it alone, or does a master need to review their work? I find their work to be of good quality and their grasp on their writing is excellent.

[member="Vassara Raxis"], Generally it's the master of the person, a Master within the Faction, a Faction admin, or the random Monthly Rank Caps.

So if you want someone to continue in rank, go to one of the masters within the faction and suggest for them to be evaluated for the advancement in rank. If they approve, then they will post the promotion. If not, they will let you know.

However, if talking out in the open, do not speak their name as there are some who will get all hyped up for the promotion, but will not make it, and feel mad, or take it personally. To avoid that, don't utter their name.

my two cents.

Well we have no masters so to speak.

Also I'm the faction Admin, but I want to make sure it's legit if I do it myself after a few more training threads.

Promotion to Knight if fairly lenient compared to Masterhood. Therefore, if, as faction admin, you feel they're ready, then they probably are. Talk it over with your other FA's then post the promotion. The apprentice can then reference that post when they ask for a knight rank bar.

If you'd like advice, check with an RPJ and ask them if they are ready.

What flint said, every person is different and personally i make sure icly that they are ready for knight hood. Too many times has a person ive trained gone on to prove they aren't ready for a rankup through either their behavior or in a fight.

Here are some questions I like to ask promising recruits before moving forward,

  • Q: How would you feel about becoming Knight Rank? What are your thoughts and expectations about it for your character?
  • Q: Would you feel comfortable teaching Padawans now? Do you feel you can meet a student's wild and variable needs?
  • Q: What does Godmoding and Powergaming mean to you? What are some ways you try to consciously avoid it in your own writing?
  • Q: Are you familiar with Wookieepedia? Do you feel comfortable writing in the Star Wars genre as a whole?

Naturally, there is no right or wrong answer here. But as writers spend more time on the boards their answers to these questions always change. I try not to promote anyone to Knight Rank unless they would feel very comfortable there. For some people that can mean immediately. For others? Maybe four weeks. And for the slow pokes? I might push them towards Knight Rank after two months or so. Boost their confidence, finish up a plot line, or work especially on overcoming their RP hesitations.

I don't have very exotic expectations of Knight Rank. It has a lot more to do with what a person is comfortable with OOC, then being a paragon of IC or Faction expectations. It is 90% about their writer and only 10% about their character. But that's just me. :D
