Prologue: Return to the Void

(This is a quick intro for Mark's trip to the Mirrorverse which connects back to one of his earlier adventures, 'Weekend Treasure Hunt 18: Dark Mirror. Mark's story will continue in the official threads for the various areas of the Mirrorverse.)

Location: Cularin, The Expansion Regions

Mark stood alone in the depths of the Cularin jungles. He liked jungles. Despite their generally unforgiving nature, they were warm, lush, and full of so many interesting things. He'd only been to Cularin once before in his life. A few months ago, he'd had an amazing encounter with a portal and an alternate dimension, filled with even more Chaos than the one he currently lived in.
A few days ago, he'd felt a tug back on Yavin IV, a tug on his force energy he'd not felt since the alternate dimension. He knew what it must have meant. The portal had reopened, and it was calling to him. And so, he left the academy for a time and flew over to Cularin. He'd left R2-M9 back with his starfighter. R2 would never be able to maneuver through such thick jungle. During the trek to this spot, Mark's mind kept drifting back to that day: the battle he'd had to leave behind, the alternate Jedi, his alternate self. So much death went on there, and he still hadn't been able to help the alternate universe Jedi win the day. He'd never known if the alternate Jedi had won the battle he'd had to leave, but he hoped to find out.
And here he was now, eyeing down a mass of swirling portal once again.

It was just as it was before. This time though, the rock that had once read a strange riddle of finding ones-self now read just one short sentence.
"Do not believe his lies."
Mark couldn't make anything of this. Who was He? What lies? Still, he looked back to the portal and felt it drawing him in. He couldn't leave it behind now. It was time.
He pulled a small, circular bit of metal and clockwork from his pocket, a pocketwatch. He'd found it on his last trip here, and he knew the picture of the couple and their son inside the cover had to mean something. But what?
"So many questions, too few answers." He muttered.
He stuffed it back in the pocket under his clock for now. Once again Mark was faced with a decision. Should he leave and forget the portal existed, or should he go through? There was no middle ground. He had to know. He had to know what all of it meant. Keeping his lightsaber handy, Mark closed his eyes and slowly walked towards the portal.
"I have to know." He said aloud as the portal engulfed him. He was gone.
