ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
  • The Impenetrable Facade: Featuring dense armor plating, redundant overlapping shields, and the same Combustion energy-dissipating variant as the Devastator and Supremacy classes, the Desolator is a tough ship indeed.
  • The Withering Sky: The Desolator's main 'feature' is its ability to project a staggering amount of firepower onto a single (typically large) target. On destroyer-sized or larger ships the torrent of turbolaser energy is literally ceaseless. On smaller vessels the ship is hampered simply by its great size, but it does allow them some respite. Very small ships can of course simply use their speed and maneuverability to make themselves hard targets, as usual. This array of weapons is also particularly well-suited to turning a section of ground into something resembling molten glass, too.
Weaknesses:
  • Dreadnought Disease: Unlike the larger Devastator-class, the Desolator is slow and sluggish, a more traditional battlecruiser, from a more... civilized age. Additionally while the Desolator possesses a fairly ample loudout of weapons on its rear and ventral sides, it is still dramatically weaker if approached on those fronts. Being a classic large warship, it is most vulnerable if outmaneuvered and attacked from the rear.
  • Combustible: The Combustion Shielding is capable of being overloaded. This is much more difficult on the Desolator than it is on the smaller Supremacy, but is still possible, especially if the ship is surrounded and outnumbered.

DESCRIPTION
The Compellor-class Battlecruiser represents a departure from modern First Order designs, away from the diverse and varied weapon loudouts that are so prominent on the new Devastator, Predator, and Accuser classes and a nod back towards the old school Imperial designs, which focused on extreme numbers of turbolasers and and endless barrage of energy to overwhelm enemy defenses.

The main armament is 74 Octuple Barbette Turrets, each consisting of 8 annihilator turbolasers linked together, each dwarfing the firepower of the infamous Octuple Barbette on the old Imperial II-class Star Destroyers. The turrets are capable of firing in one massive volley, in pairs, or in a ripple fire that can keep up a constant stream of energy on a target. Due to the design of the ship, nearly all the turrets are capable of being aimed at a single target (assuming said target is large enough). The ship then closes in on the target, continuing its barrage and picking away at weak points with more precise specialist weapons. Finally at close range it unleashes volleys of Assault Concussion Missiles to obliterate the foe.

The vessel is not defenseless at long range, but features a much diminished armament (for its size) comparable even to the Unforgiven-class Battlecruisers. A set of standard Long Range Turbolaser batteries help round it out, but the Desolator is unlikely to win a contest against a similarly-sized long ranged opponent. Typically it will never need to, of course.

Defensively the ship takes a page from its larger cousin, the Devastator, and sports refined Combustion Shielding on top of the very tough, reliable and perhaps most important by now battle-tested armor combination of Alusteel, Turadium, and Quadanium Steel. Unlike its cousin, the battlecruiser does not sport anti concussion field generators, preferring to use what excess energy it has to sustain its staggering barrage.

Rolling out alongside the fast dreadnoughts, the Desolator's are yet another tangible reminder of the thus-far naval supremacy of the First Order.
