- The Society of Presanus is highly regimented and rigid in its structure. There is no flexibility and it acts more like a caste system. However these is a difference between the Presanus Caste System and other Caste Systems in the Galaxy, that being, that there is no Lower Caste. Rather, due in part to Presanus' Slavery laws and Slave based society, their Caste System is structure much smaller. From top down, it stands at Aristocracy, Upper Middle Class / Military Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers / Military Personnel, Inventors / Scientist, all held up by the Slave Caste at the bottom. As is usual with most Caste Systems, there is no true means of upwards mobility (save for one exception); that being that those of the Upper Middle Class / Military Officers Caste are capable of ascending into the Aristocratic Caste. Beyond that it acts as any other Caste System.

- Art is an endeavor thought to be only truly appreciated by those of the Aristocracy and a few Military Officers of Presanus. Thus Art is highly restricted to the Aristocracy, with most pieces being held in private ownership or privately owned galleries. They view Art as something that only those of Nobility can create and often scoff at the idea that any such paintings, sculptures or other such works of art could be produced by anyone of 'lower birth' than a noble. Often during war, it is not unheard of for those Aristocrats and Military Officers in the Presanus Military to pillage or 'liberate' works of art from other worlds to be brought back as trophies to be shown in their own homes.
- Likewise Education is seen as an endeavor that only those of a noble birth should be afforded. However they also understand that those of great minds should be permitted to learn. Following the rules of their Caste system, Education is therefore held only for a few castes with each caste often receiving different educations. Aristocrats for example are often educated in the finer points of diplomacy, art, alien cultures and so forth. Where as those of the Scientist caste are educated in the Sciences, Biology, Engineering, etc etc. To the Presanians, teaching a Slave is an endeavor that is hardly worth the time or effort, and the Slave Caste is only educated enough to be able to operate the machinery in the various Industrial complexes to ensure that they do not kill themselves as they toil.

- Presanus is a heavily slave based society due in part to the upper 'ruling' Aristocratic class. Much of the Industrial capacity of Presanus is handled by imported slaves, often purchased from far flung markets or taken in tribute or from battle. The Aristocratic Class and much of the Upper Middle Class for that matter are more focused on the glory and prestige that comes from serving in the Presanus Military or in a similar service to the Presanus Confederate Forces. For this reason, while the Presanus Confederacy itself has outlawed Slavery on many of its worlds, there is a special clause that exempts Presanus itself from this law and ensures that their Industrial prowess does not falter for lack of a 'proper work force'.

- Perhaps in direct response to the culturally and religiously open minded neighbors of Val Reskiea (whom once ruled over Presanus in eons past); Presanus itself has become a highly Humanocentric society. While it does often employ alien species that have gained a name for themselves as mercenaries and bounty hunters (such as the Ubese, Ailon and Gank), they are seen more as cannon fodder, fit to provide a shield to protect the Presanians (base line humans) from harm on the battlefield. More often than not, it is these alien species that bear the brunt of military campaigns, often sent into the most dangerous sectors of a combat zone or otherwise sent on near suicidal missions. This view not only permeates through the military, it also seeps into daily life. Most Presanians view alien species as inferior and weak and provide only the most begrudging respect to those few aliens or species that earn it through their acts on and off the field of battle.

- Military Service is seen as a marker of pride and prestige among the Presanians. It is not unheard of for whole families to be able to trace their Military Service and often multiple generations of a family serve at the same time, from officers to privates. Like much of their society however, Military Service is confined within the Caste system. Only those of the Nobility or Upper Middle class are permitted advancement as Officers. Those of the Middle to Lower Class are only permitted to serve as far as Non-Commissioned Officers, never achieving a higher rank despite their experience or expertise in a field. Those of the Scientist caste are not permitted to serve due to their knowledge being needed to create new weapons and the thought of permitting a Slave to fight let alone wear the prestigious uniform of the Presanus Military is unthinkable.

- A Confederation in name more so than in practice. For while it is called a Confederation, it is more in line with a single Planet with Vassals. Presanus views itself as the leaders of a righteous cause, standing up for Presanus and its neighbors against the tyranny and over reach of the Val Reskiean Empire; though in truth, the Presanus Confederation is just another Empire in a different name. As mentioned, the Confederation operates as such in name only, for since its founding, a Presanian has held the office of President of the Presanus Confederation (with every election always resulting in the same outcome).
- Presanus even maintains the largest presence in the Confederation Defensive Force, and often acts more in line with a ruler exacting tribute from its vassals. This is the truth behind the Presanus Confederation for it was forged in the fires of war with those now 'member worlds' once having stood against Presanus. Outwardly it is a beacon of hope and democracy, inwardly it is an Empire wearing the sheepskin of Confederation.

Unlike the lies spun by those that "Chronicled" the history of the Val Cluster as from the corrupted view of the Vallians of Val Reskiea, this is the true, unbiased truth of the matter. Presanus was never a colony of Val Reskiea, for we sought our freedom away from the tyranny of those that proclaimed themselves above all because of some illusory divine providence. Our people suffered under the authoritarian rule of Val Reskiea and thus we sought our own freedom out in the Val Cluster.
Boarding mighty vessels that would ensure our people would sleep for generations, we struck out from Val Reskiea to bring the word of freedom and truth to the Val Cluster. We, the Presanians would build a utopia in which all were created equal. No longer would we stifle beneath the reign of that which called themselves the "Divine Empresses", a pox upon their kind and their descendants for all time.
Thus in a time long since forgotten by many, though held in high esteem in our own hearts, our people came upon the world of Presanus. A place of true beauty unlike that which had ever been seen. Our world as it is now does not reflect that which it had once been. We were the rulers of a great bounty and we would use it to help one another and to ensure that the Val Cluster would not fall to tyranny.
This is the history of Presanus, the land of freedom that still stands defiant.
..:: The Imperial Val Cluster ::..

Unsatisfied with their own system, those accursed Vallians struck out to claim the whole of the Val Cluster. They sought to bring all worlds beneath their corrupt Empire, though were unable to do so. They sent out colonial vessels, sleeper ships in the hundreds to seed their corruption across the Cluster. One such vessel fell upon our world and we found those within to be wanting, for they were an invader attempting to claim our home.
We fell upon them and defended our world, slaughtering them in the thousands. We could not permit a single to survive; and not once have we looked back and seen it as wrong. It was the right thing to do and we had to do so. Of course it challenged the Vallians, and they sought to send out their fleet, proclaiming it to be mighty. It was nothing of the sort, for they were incapable of breaching our defenses.
As they sought to bring the Cluster beneath their tyranny, we took this time to cultivate new alliances, and friends. It would be our mighty Confederation of Presanus that would ensure the freedom of the Cluster. No world would be made to suffer the tyranny of Val Reskiea; a mighty war was upon the horizon, one which would see Presanus rise from the ashes to usher in an era of peace.
..:: The Sundering of Presanus ::..

In many historical texts often found on Presanus, the above two entries are often seen, with Presanus being made out to be the great freedom fighter standing against a tyrannical force. However the history of Presanus is very much different than that which is told by the Presanians. In truth, Presanus began its history as a minor colony of Val Reskiea, their sleeper vessel arriving upon the world heavily damaged with only a few hundred surviving the journey.
Not once were they forgotten though, as Val Reskiea made great inroads and attempts at reconnecting with their colonies and sleeper vessels. However in the time that it took to make contact with Presanus once more, the colonial world had become its own, and ambitious individuals sought to spit in the very eye of a behemoth. What comes next would, in many historical accounts, become known as the Sundering of Presanus.
While Val Reskiea had maintained a strict policy on the development of biological weapons and nuclear arsenals, the Presanians had no such policy in place. Much of their weapons that they had stockpiled for such a war of "freedom" were these very destructive weapons. This point of history is known as the Sundering of Presanus for this very reason, for when the war that they started appeared to be going against them, they unleashed their entire arsenal.
Presanus had once been a world of verdant beauty, lush tropical jungles, shimmering oceans. Rolling hills that appeared golden in the setting sun; a far cry from what is seen now. The unleashing of nuclear weapons and biological weapons saw to the destruction of the Val Reskiea forces on the surface of Presanus, they also saw to the destruction of Presanus itself.
Even now, thousands of years after the event, the world is highly radioactive, with vast radioactive storms scouring the surface of the world. Once shimmering oceans became dried beds of radioactive salt. Craters left from massive explosions now dot the land rather than the once verdant jungle. All that remained of ancient forests were the petrified husks of those that didn't burn in the fires.
..:: Fall of the Republic / Rise of the Empire Era ::..

Presanus marked the following Era in fire, as the surface of their world burned at their own hand. What few survivors weren't killed by the radioactive environment were barely able to come together and find shelter. The great domed cities soon sprang up, and it seemed that Presanus began to focus on rebuilding their military might. While Val Reskiea was weakened in the following hundred years, Presanus began an expansion of terror and might.
They forced neighboring systems, previously on good terms with them or otherwise unaligned, to join their "Confederation", which soon became a Confederacy in name rather than actual function. For all their focus on proclaiming themselves the "saviors" and "fighters for freedom", they quickly became conquerors.
Many on their world even began to view aliens with distrust, and as the cause of them being forced to loose their destructive armaments upon their own world. These views though wouldn't grown until much later, as seen in their willingness to work with the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
..:: The Clone Wars - The Imperial Period ::..

As the galaxy descended into Conflict, the Val Cluster so too would fall prey to the fighting. While Val Reskiea and its rebuilt Empire would focus upon being Neutral, Presanus and its Confederation sought combat. Working with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, they saw it as a means to bring about the destruction of their most hated rivals.
And as Val Reskiea sought to bring peace and to extend a hand of aid to the Galaxy, Presanus instead extended a hand and offered armaments to the conflict. Their world quickly began to churn out weapons on a vast scale, and even hosted foundries and factories for those within the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Massive factories churned out thousands upon thousands of battle droids, vessels and vehicles for the Confederacy, and their coffers filled with credits.
Even as the Clone Wars came to an end and the Empire arose, Presanus saw a means of conquest in its military industrial complex. While Carida was well known for its Academies, Presanus would be well known for its military training in Wild Space. They would export entire battalions and legions of well equipped forces to the highest bidder. All in a bid to reclaim some form of power to strike against their hated foes.
With the rise of the Empire, Presanus once again saw a rising resentment of alien species and soon enough agents of the Empire spread the views of Humanocentrism among the populace. While it would have been brushed away on more elegant and worthy worlds, it was taken to heart among the Presanians whom began to blame alien species among them for every slight and wrong that happened to their home world. It was for this reason that Slavery began to rise and take hold on Presanus, and it was only a few alien species that were exempt from such actions; mainly those that were well know mercenary species that fought for credits.
..:: Pre-Gulag Plague Era ::..

The Presanians have a history with virulent viruses, having destroyed their world with biological weapons, though the Gulag Plague was unlike anything they had previously seen. Even as their people were suffering, the government saw this as a chance at a new weapon. Their scientist purposely began to infect aliens on Presanus just so they could study the virus.
It was only the Human population that was protected and taken care (as much as possible). Entire populations of aliens in the domed cities were forced to contact the plague and to be in contact with the sick and dying just so they could be studied. Even in a time of great crises, the Presanians were thinking of credits. While many worlds did everything they could to protect everyone and ensure the most survivors, as seen, that was not the case on Presanus.
The only reason that such testing stopped, was due in part to the government having expended their source of test subjects; as they refused to test their human populace. The data remains though, and even as the plague began to subside and new cases began to drop, they still worked on a way to weaponize the plague.
..:: Post-Gulag Plague Era ::..

In the Post Gulag Era the world of Presanus and its Confederation saw the chaos in the galaxy as a boon to their military complex. Their factories churned out thousands of armaments and supplies for war. Their academies and training facilities turning out thousands of soldiers and officers. They even managed to use some of these resources to expand their Confederation, forcing more worlds to join.
While the galaxy as a whole fell to Chaos, the Val Cluster fell back into its old routine and habits. Every time Presanus and the Presanus Confederation made a move, they were countered or blocked by the Val Reskiea Empire and vice versa. Their age old conflict still the driving force between the two sides and it seemed that things couldn't get worst. Though as the years dragged on and a relative peace was brought to the Val Cluster, an event so world shattering was about to respark that desire for conflict.

An event that changed the galaxy, with billions disappearing over night. Presanus though saw it as an act of war. They thought that their ancient enemies had somehow managed to create some strange new weapon and unleashed it upon their world. Even with envoys of the Val Reskiea Empire arriving to explain what had happened and deny any such weapon existed, Presanus would not hear of it and viewed their words as lies.
For the Presanus Confederation, it was time to once more return to armed conflict. For they saw the Val Reskiea Empire and their new allies of the Order of the Righteous Flame as a dangerous force that needed to be quelled so that the Val Cluster would be free for their own taking. Now the stage is set, and as their world barely recovered once again, they look towards a future of conflict.

Intent:
- To further expand upon a custom section of Wild Space known as the Val Cluster. This submission is also intended to provide a background, history and description to the capital world of the Presanus Confederation which is to play a part in the Val Cluster Campaign series of threads and stories. Presanus is thus solely for the expansion of custom lore in Wild Space and to provide additional backdrop for writer drive threads for the sole purpose of encouraging creativity, story driven threads, character development, etc etc and to bring further activity to both the site as a whole and Wild Space (which is often over looked).
