DESCRIPTION
The Lo-RRAC Implant is a brand new augmentation flooding the streets of Denon, and taking the Black Market Cybernetics industry by storm. Implanted at the base of the skull between the C1 & C2 Vertebrae, this device acts as an intermediary between the motor cortex & the spinal column, and provides end-users with a remarkably novel solution to a problem every being faces: mastering a given skill without the required practice time to gain it.

Every being has faced this kind of situation whether it is taking on a higher-level job, winning a contest, impressing a date, and so on. If only there was a way to master a brand new skill overnight.

The Lo-RRAC is such a device. In truth, it is an off-brand, barely better than cobbled together, hacky solution, though one with a repeatable, reliable formula. By extracting the CNS motivator from a AJ-17 cyborg construct and reconfiguring its firmware with a widely-available aftermarket upgrade, it can be slotted it into a compatible spinal column adapter to complete the Lo-RRAC device. There, it monitors the signals from the brain's motor cortext to the body and limbs, storing the signals involved in repeated, complex techniques more efficiently than the brain. Later, when the technique is performed again, the implant will activate as a sort of artificial muscle memory, reminding the body what it needs to do to execute the technique.

Lo-RRAC implantees will find it much easier to perform techniques they have only tried out once or thrice. Even techniques learned at a slower pace will be easier to put in practice at speed, though it's recommended to incrementally speed up and perform the technique at increasingly faster speeds for the highest effectiveness (no need to call it practice, we won't). Finally, the implantee will find they are much more aware of their limbs and body positioning, a crucial aspect of any performance or hand-eye coordination tasks.

The Lo-RRAC performs best in predictable situations. It activates not unlike muscle memory, or a typist's auto-completion, and the effect can sometimes be jarring (even if pleasantly so). Using the implant in chaotic, highly-reactive environments can cause the Lo-RRAC's activation to induce a mild state of shock for the implantee, however. This can be reduced through better acclimation, such as using the device more often to get used to the sensation. At worst case, the implantee can find themselves in something similar to a panic attack. Minor glitches may cause the implant to misfire and perform a wrong technique at times, however a ripperdoc can usually correct this (while reminding the implantee that custom solutions like this aren't always free of glitches).

STRENGTHS

WEAKNESSES

• Whacking the handle too hard can damage the electronics inside, particularly the screen extension mechanism.
• The plastoid locks holding the screen in place have a habit of coming loose, resulting in the datapad unfurling if not stored securely.

DESCRIPTION
Most datapads present in the same fashion. A rectangular slab of varying size, permanently affixed to a case. For something designed to be portable, these devices wind up being very bulky and downright unwieldy for species with smaller manipulator appendages.

The D3X "ByteHide" aims to resolve that. Presenting as nothing more than a thin rod at first glance, a press of an identifying digit to the fingerprint reader will unlock the device and allow the screen to unfurl. Once rolled out completely, the datapad can accept normal input/output on its screen or alternatively display content above the screen using the built-in holoprojector.

Designed to be secure, the built-in software comes complete with a host of CryptNet-compatible apps. To prevent most tampering, the device only allows adding or modifying its software following a complex series of prompts while the fingerprint reader is engaged.

Can typically be purchased for 1500 UCs, though secondhand systems have been known to sell for less. Most vendors will not accept offers of credits, vouchers or obscure currencies to purchase this datapad.

Lotkaasi aka Dirigopus

Living between the buildings of the Abyss, the Lotkaasi are one of the few harmless creatures that may be encountered. Passive creatures, their only real defense is their size and grouping behaviors. As a result, they are a target of hunting, for its skin and for trophies, by the rare parties that come down to the Abyss for that purpose, "getting Lots in the Abyss" is like Denon's version of going on safari.

Anatomy

At first glance, lotkaasi look like jellyfish out of water. With long tentacles that descend from a fleshy sac at the top, the creatures look more at home in water than in the air between buildings. Their tentacles serve multiple purposes at different points in the tentacle's age, making it possible to guess a lotkaasi's age by the length and number of tentacles. Lotkaasi appear to endlessly generate new tentacles, but have trouble feeding when the creature grows old enough. An elder lotkaasi may attach itself to a vent or above pools of toxic waste extruded by buildings far above in the Midnight Zone, where it can better feed, and eventually may become a nest for mature Lotkaasi to deposit their young.

When a lotkaasi's tentacles are young, their purpose is strictly sensory. Small, pinprick openings in the tentacles can detect heat and gas content, and they gravitate towards those sources. They move often, and can appear to be 'waving' on a stationary lotkaasi or 'swimming' on a lotkaasi in motion.

As a lotkaasi's tentacles age, their small openings grow larger, and can grip surfaces around them. This allows the lotkaasi to propel itself against the sides of buildings, a useful talent that can be used to climb when they need to reach a higher source of heat or to maneuver in tight places. A young lotkaasi that is not yet buoyant uses these tentacles to reach sources of toxins to feed on.

Longer, older tentacles eventually drop below the creature, where they drift passively beneath. Their openings become extensions of the creature's gas intake system, and can absorb toxins from the air around them. The longer the tentacles, the more gas the creatures can feed on, so older Lotkaasi can drift far and wide around the Abyss.

The fleshy sac above is the main body of the lotkaasi, which is the remnants of a hard carapace that forms the creature's first source of protection and food. Packed with nutrients, the carapace dissolves from the inside until their tentacles grow large enough for them to move about with ease. As the creature grows, acid rain from above dissolves and weathers the outer sac, giving it a leathery appearance and texture. The underside of the sack contains the creature's main gas intake, its mouth, its ring of tentacles, and several small, glowing membranes which respond to heat. The sac body is inflated by the gases it feeds upon as well as heat brought in through the sensitive membranes around the mouth.

Habitat

The air serves as the lotkaasi's primary habitat, it primarily drifts between sources of heat while absorbing toxins along the way. Most commonly found around sources of heat, updrafts between the buildings send the Lotkaasi drifting to different places. Commonly found in small herds of a dozen or so, sometimes an older lotkaasi may be encountered on its own.

Diet

Primarily, the Lotkaasi feed upon the toxins in the air of the Abyss, as well as heat absorbed while they drift around. These components facilitate a biochemical process not unlike photosynthesis in plants, extracting chemical nutrients that the lotkaasi survives on, and extruding other waste gases like oxygen or nitrogen.
