+ Powerful = From snout to end it has a defined muscular structure.
+ Night Vision = From a lifetime of living in caves it's eyes evolved granting the ability to clearly see in the dark as in the light.
+ Razor Sharp Claws = The claws are sharp enough to rip and tear through most metal alloys and armour.
+ Senses = All five senses are extremely heightened compared to 90% of the species in the galaxy.
+ Size = Their massive frames allow for tough skin/hides.

- Headstrong = When they have their mind set on something they will go to great lengths to get to it. This could lead to premature death.
- Unintelligent = They are not very bright. They allow their primal instincts to override any signs of intelligence.
- Fast Metabolism = The species is constantly on the hunt for food.
- Poor Maternal Skills = The moment the Mother produces her offspring (4 cubs during pregnancy) she abandons them.
- Cannibals = This ties into Fast Metabolism. They will eat one another if no other food source is available. Cubs are the most vulnerable.

Culture:
They are nomads and are rarely seen together except in time of mating season. The name Potens Ursae comes from an ancient dead language from the first Keshiri settlers meaning powerful bear.

General behavior:
They are aggressive and extremely territorial. Since they are not intelligent beings and have a fast metabolism they will attack anything or anyone on sight. With the ability to see in the dark the species prefers to hunt at night but have been known to root around for prey in the daytime.
In times of mating season the male will demonstrate submission to the female allowing her to either accept him or kill/eat him. After the birth of the cubs the Mother will abandon them. If any cub lingers around the Mother she will eat them.
History:
The first settlers to explore the planet of Kesh first encountered the species on the Keshtah Minor continent. The first attempts to capture one and study it was met with disaster. The species fought and killed three settlers before it was finally put down. Word was sent out to other tribes to avoid these species at all costs. Over time the Keshiri people viewed them as god-like beings.
When the Omen crashed on the planet in 5000 BBY the crew hunted the species as a food source. Later they would send Tyros and Sith Sabres out into the known regions where the species was known to frequent as a test of their skill. Kill one and bring a paw back as proof or don't return at all. The latter was always assumed the Tyro or Sabre was killed.
As the galaxy moved forward the species began to migrate through the entire planet of Kesh. They dominated the jungles and mountain regions. When Kesh began to populate more and more with sentient life (humans and other species) a hunt was installed to try and keep the population of the species in check. Later when it was observed that species itself dictated their numbers through their aggressive and territorial behaviours the hunts were ended abruptly.
Today the species is given a wide berth but are always observed.

Intent: To create a battle unit (cubs raised to adulthood and adults mated in a controlled environment) to be used by the Covenant of the Black Rose on worlds where technology would suffer moving through terrains like swamps, marshes, and bogs.
