Possible merger with the Red Ravens--Weigh in here!

A few observations.

  • This is a game, we can pretty much make up a reason for anything with handwavium and a thread.
  • This attitude of "we are better," kind of sucks.
  • I agree it's out of left field, but everything we do on this board is driven by OOC stuff. We don't have characters if we don't just decide to make one and set them on their path.
  • If we have Sith and Dark Jedi running this faction and it's businesses, why can't a few normal criminals legitimize themselves?
  • The best groups take players, find spots for them or make them. We don't get all "selectivist" like the Republic.
  • What we gain is minimal, but it's more than if we don't do it.

I would suggest not doing a full merger.

We won't get any territory out of it. Criminal activity shouldn't be a core part of our brand or message. We've got one, we should stick to it.

Instead:
  • Keep Red Ravens as a minor faction
  • Their page is cool, it'll attract more criminals if they're active, along with some of us
  • Have their members join TU if they want and foster links
  • Put an active link to their forums on the TU nav bar
The merger seems forced to me, and I'm not sure what it brings us above doing what I've laid out there. If the last couple of members there need a home, they can just join us and close their faction.

We are criminals.

Most of our leadership has done terrible things at some point.

  • Rhys is an assassin.
  • Death's Hand is one.
  • Kash is a Sith alchemist with a mean streak.
  • Gerion was the Sith Emperor
  • Mr. Irani is a Sith Lord who's not very nice.
  • Dagora was a Sith Lord who was pretty fiesty.
  • My new character here is a guy who drains people of their lives secretly while looking legit.
We are not the Jedi Order, we do lawful business but do some shady stuff behind the scenes. Why not be inclusive and let the two members we gain have a home and we support NFU's doing the same thing? With legitimate business there is illegitimate means of gaining money as well.

Possibly more territory. This depends highly on RPJs and Staff. Possibly a few more members (whoever's left in the RR may join the TU) Opportunities. The sky's the limit with what we could do with a planet like Nar Shaddaa. Corey came up with the idea of using criminals to make an anti-crime division or something like that. Or we could have a crime division that operates in secret. The victory of capitalism as the TU monopolizes the galaxy

  • Seriously doubt we'll get more than Pando and Barab I, if that.
  • You're right about Nar Shaddaa, but we can just dominion Nar Shaddaa, 'cause we likely won't get it in a merge
  • Let the members (if any) join us and make RR separate and minor - merge not required
  • I could go on for ages about muddying the waters and damaging the brand, but suffice it to say, I pretty firmly believe this might do both

So on balance, it's either mildly harmful or mildly good.

I'm really not a fan of the elitism that I am seeing in this discussion...

Yes, they are criminals who want to do criminal things...nowhere does it say that everything a Technocracy or the Techno Union in particular has to be completely above board. If we merge with them I say we accept these criminals as the underside of what most of the rest of us have held the Techno Union to be. Give them a great deal of Tech to do their criminal things, help them be the best cyberpunk criminals in the galaxy.

Merging can only bring in more roleplay opportunities, not less.

That's my two sense, merge and have more opportunities for fun.

I'm going to abstain from sidelining as well. As one of the former FO's of the RR, I admittedly have lots of OOC reasons I'd like the factions to merge.

But keep the opinions coming!

As of this post, the unofficial count stands at 8-9 for, 2-3 against and 2 abstaining.

The reason for the ranges is we've had some people wobbling on the fence and I didn't want to pigeon hole them into one or the other.

If they want this to go ahead, we could do a thread where we storm in arrest them seize assets, and then process them through our legal system. This would start to give rational to it, then find they have skills and get sent to various divisions of the techno union, and be put on parole.

Thoughts?

The Red Ravens have just completed a Dominion of Nal Hutta. Both Hutta and Shaddaa are large economic centers (despite one literally orbiting the other). We could do an Invasion of some of their territory...has anyone ever tried to do a cooperative invasion to get more territory before a merger?

Yes.
I'm a droid.
But that was a concept I had in my head, teh whole 'we bring our own opposition' would work well with a Cyberpunk aspect here. Big Business, noble and grand, power secure, we can guide a missile by satellite,

and punks. WE can make it fun, have a mini galaxy board for our faction. Some worlds are dark, some worlds are techno perfection.

This is a good idea, we conquer them. Then they can be pow and shown how to be true criminals with corporate greed.
Honestly I ilke the idea
ooc no issues
ic want a justification of some sort

Well, our most recent invasion of Rebel Geonosis has a member of the Red Ravens fighting on the side of the Rebels...I can't think of his name off the top of my head but his sig has a guy laughing around flames.

We could say that because of this, they have broken our brand new treaty and we decide to gobble them up. We take what planets we can and we take their people, saying that they can continue their activities while being under supervision of the Techno Union.

We typically give our member corporations carte blanche as long as they don't take the field against us, so make the Red Ravens into a kind of corporation...
