Description: Darth Pandeima and Darth Ayra, Sith Master and Apprentice in the Rule of Two, came together to plan the creation of a device that would block the scanning abilities of a vessel in realspace and subspace. It was conceived in preparation for their Grand Plan, so that the location of their up and coming creations could not be detected. Whilst their powers in the dark side of the Force were capable of concealing these creations, it was conceivable that neither of them would be able to stick to the task of their defense on a long term basis, having commitments elsewhere with corporations such as Emeritus Industries and Chandrila DataTech, of which they were shareholders of through their alter egos Circe Savan and Alicia Drey.
With ideas such as the Azari theory in mind, Pandeima and Ayra convened on Chandrila to brainstorm their ideas and come up with an invention to put their ideas from theory into reality. The idea of a static barrier was conceived, but ultimately proved beyond them. In the end, a dampening field was put into construction, capable of blocking the energy out put of a device within it's radius, whilst blocking any incoming or outgoing transmission that might occur. The radius of this dampening field was big enough to encompass a transport the size of a Scimitar or a ship of a similar size.
It's designation was a PDF (Portable Dampening Field) because the device was capable of being moved whilst keeping the dampening field erected for a certain period of time. The period of time that the PDF could keep a dampening field up whilst not hooked up to a source of power- such as a generator on board a Scimitar, transport or war ship- was twenty minutes, whereas if the PDF were connected to a source of energy that could refill it's inbuilt power source was more long term, subject to that ships maintenance and power distribution.
Consequentially, the PDF and the dampening field that it creates only blocks communications and transmissions from going in and outside of it's radius along subspace, whilst retaining the ability to block the scanning capabilities of another ship from detecting anything inside it's radius in realspace. This is different from the ability of a shield, which can block other forms of matter- whether they be biological, finite or energy based- from passing through it.
With the PDF created, three of these devices exist for Darth Ayra or Darth Pandeima to use in the Grand Plan they have conceived in the Order of Sith Lords.
