Points of Interest:

WITCHTOWN
jungle_concept_by_happy_mutt-d5tk9lg.jpg
Shardrock Clan, a longstanding Dathomiri Witch clan, largely resides in Witchtown. Shardrock has long been a place for Witches who were trained off Dathomir, or otherwise were not perfectly familiar with the web of social constructions that restrict life and training on Dathomir. Shardrock Clan is an integrated part of the Rekali clan. They share a clan father in Ember Rekali (NPC), retired Jedi Master, Witch Elder, and former bounty hunter -- the Warlock of Yavin. Rekali sometimes trains in physical enhancement, Keetael tracking, and -- rarely -- the White Current. Witchtown is progressive, open and welcoming so far as Witch enclaves are concerned, but still considered idiosyncratic. Witchtown contains a couple of Port Shardrock's most popular and disreputable drinking establishments, and several purveyors of Dathomiri curios. Nightsister arts and artifacts are strongly discouraged, but there's always someone selling dubious things in a back alley. More wholesomely, the witches welcome Jedi students, and many witches train at the Praxeum in the tradition of Kirana Ti and Tenel Ka.
YAVIN JEDI PRAXEUM
tumblr_np1b8pQ1fR1rnpi4to1_1280.png
The Yavin Jedi Academy, or Praxeum, is located at the outskirts of town, surrounded by the same jungle that grows throughout Port Shardrock. The headmaster of the Yavin Praxeum is the Neti Jedi Master Eyal M'ti (NPC). Other instructors include [member="Shule Windspeaker"] (not a Mandalorian, but a longtime resident of their territory), [member="Anastasia Rade"] (a Mandalorian), [member="Aaralyn Gyndar"] (a Rekali) and [member="Quorl"] (an owl), as well as the Twi'lek telekinesis specialist Iara Clane (NPC). Other occasional teachers include Jedi Master [member="Kana Truden"], the Mandalorian Field Marshal [member="Anija Ordo"] (Ember Rekali's onetime student), and the Grey Paladin [member="Khaleel Malvern"]. The Temple Quartermaster, responsible for helping new arrivals get situated and find their way around, is a friendly Nautolan woman named Kali (NPC). She is an experienced Jedi diplomat but weak in the Force. She holds occasional classes on Niman, Form Zero, and diplomacy.

The Yavin Praxeum is independent of all governments and politically impartial, within reason. It does not answer to the Silver or Republic Jedi Councils, and accepts students and teachers from all Jedi traditions without bias, emphasizing the full Jedi Code as an ideal. The Praxeum is supported by public donations and by a grant from the Rekali clan, whose clan father once stole a terraforming station and auctioned it for two billion credits. The Praxeum is frequently used as a training site and waypoint base by Silver Jedi, Levantines, Republic Jedi and others. It is home to the Ithorian Priests, Bafforr groves, and Tyia Thuwisten evacuated from the Dantooine Jedi Enclave during the Primeval assault, as well as Dantooine's Jedi. The Jedi consider themselves guests of the Rekali clan and comport themselves accordingly. The Praxeum was previously occupied by the Order of the Grey, which was evicted by the Rekalis after a trial period of residency. When the Order of the Grey left, they stripped the Praxeum of all its electronics and building materials out of spite. Alec Rekali, who had spearheaded the eviction, oversaw the reconstruction in concert with the Jedi.

The Praxeum is located in the same temples where Luke Skywalker ran his Praxeum, and has comparable facilities and a similar attitude. Many Jedi traditions and other Light-oriented Force organizations are welcome. Healing traditions like the Ithorian nature priests and the Tyia share their teachings with the Jedi and assist in Port Shardrock's medical facilities. Within the Academy, Jedi have the resources to construct their own lightsabres, train in a variety of settings, select Padawans, study under Masters, and stay connected to the Jedi Order as a whole. The Jedi Order Library Cards allow communication with the Jedi Order's holocrons, which are far away and heavily secured. Secured hypercomm suites allow Jedi to learn of crises quickly, communicate with other centers of Jedi learning, and participate in meetings from far away. Libraries allow comprehensive research. Docking bays and landing fields hold personal ships and X-Wings. High-capacity sensors, emergency ray/particle shields, and a Crystal Gravfield Trap keep the Praxeum safe.

The central courtyard of the Academy, a common place for training, holds a massive marble slab. On it are inscribed the words of the Jedi Code, as well as the standards laid down by the ancient Jedi after centuries of refinement and hard lessons. The first two stanzas are the Code; the third is considered part of the Code as well, by tradition:

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.
Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy.
Jedi use their powers to defend and to protect.
Jedi respect all life, in any form.
Jedi serve others rather than ruling over them, for the good of the galaxy.
Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.
Jedi serve civilization and the Force above all other allegiances.
Jedi do not allow civilization to destroy needlessly.
Jedi do not take revenge or nurture resentment.
Jedi do not act for personal power or glory.
Jedi do not use the Force for personal gain.
Jedi respect all life, even each other.
Jedi are united in the face of crisis.
LOST CITY OF THE JEDI
The underground Lost City of the Jedi is located a substantial distance from Port Shardrock. It serves as Ember Rekali's place of study. So far, knowledge of its existence, location, and methods of entry are restricted to Ember, his granddaughter Alec, and his friend [member="Chloe Blake"]. The deepest Force-shielded vaults contain some Force artifacts recovered from Dromund Kaas by Akure Executive Interstellar for the Mandalorians. The Lost City's entrances are guarded by Watcher statues and subtle Fallanassi illusions, both Ember and Blake being highly experienced in the White Current.

Jungle_Camp_by_Prasa.jpg
The jungle town of Port Shardrock includes and surrounds several large landing fields and covered docking bays. It is a high-powered Outer Rim starport, almost a shadowport. Docking and fuelling fees are competitive and not exorbitant. Food is generally Mandalorian and Dathomiri in origin. Basic is the lingua franca, though Paecean and Mando'a are common as well. A number of small refit facilities and chop shops offer starship repair and modification services, even if the parts are occasionally of dubious provenance. The jungle port services Rekali clan Corusca gem divers (a major local industry), patrol ships, local Mandal Hypernautics employees, and passing spacer crews. Half a dozen H-Wing search and rescue ships are available.

The town has its own deflector shield generator, good perimeter fortifications, anti-air turbolasers/laser cannons, clan patrol/rescue forces, etc. Local authorities are members of the Rekali/Shardrock clan, which also controls the Yavin system under the larger aegis of the Mandalorian territories. The town has few bans - slavery, hard spice, and weapons of mass destruction, primarily. Brawling is common, but kill someone in Port Shardrock and you'd better have a very good reason. The hardbitten and humorless Chief Constable Jerec Rekali (NPC), a Vahla by blood and a Mandalorian by choice, is not one to cross. So far the Jedi have been better guests than the Greys, however, so relations between the Praxeum and the rest of Port Shardrock are positive and complementary. Port Shardrock's small but excellent medical facilities also serve as teaching hospitals for Witch/Jedi/Tyia/Ithorian healers.

History: Port Shardrock began as the Rekali clan's private port quite a few years back, growing to encompass the Massassi temples during the times when Ember Rekali trained the first modern generation of Mandalorian Force-users. When the Order of the Grey requested tenancy in the temples, the nearby town was dubious but accepting; only after the Greys made it clear that they did not respect their Mandalorian hosts were they evicted. When the Order of the Grey left, they stripped the Praxeum of all its electronics and building materials out of spite. Alec Rekali, who had spearheaded the eviction, oversaw the reconstruction in concert with the Jedi. The town and port swelled at several points: during the Mandal Hypernautics influx, the reconstruction effort, the growth of Corusca mining, and the Dantooine evacuation.
