Poll: Republic Skype Chat

The question is pretty simple. The FA have talked about this a few times in passing, but I figured I would post this here and see who, if anyone would like to have a Skype chat for the Republic as a whole to communicate. It would be moderated by the FA team (Myself, Corvus, and Kian), but would potentially make talking with one another or as a group that much easier, and bring folks closer together. The only risk with this is the potential for conflicts which we are seriously trying to avoid.

Let us know your thoughts.

Absolutely not. It's been proven to me time and again that these faction-wide chats inevitably decline into cesspools for lewd jokes or incubators of drama. Besides, it alienates the people who don't have or don't want to use Skype for various personal reasons.

I'm with [member="Geneviève Lasedri"]. Those just lead to trouble and toxic OOC drama every time.

I would like to weigh in here:

Drama: there is no escaping it . Yes, it breeds faster through skype cause of the quickness and instant "gratification" the message system provides. But its just part of community life with or with out the chat system.

I find group chat to be very useful. I get to know the writers I am writing with, it builds OOC comrade amongst the faction and its a quick way to get organized. Now saying that, Skype should not replace the forum for faction discussions, anything to do related to the faction should be discussed on the forum where everyone has a chance to see and voice opinion.

Also, nobody is forced to be in group chat.

I have rped well over a decade and be honest, i Prefer factions with skype chat. I am a very sociable person.

One way or another, if anyone needs me for a thread or anything, I'm very open to communication. My Skype contact is in my profile close to the top and I use it all the time to communicate with writer friends I've made over the years.

On a more related note, I don't think that a skype chat would be so bad to have for a faction. I know that some of the others do that, but in my personal experience I've seen this to be a problem when people use it in a negative way like flaming one another or when someone invites someone from another faction into the chat, which can also cause problems. My opinions is that if handled in an adult manner it can be a great thing, but someone's probably going to act like a 12 year old and piss on the idea.

I don't like pushing Faction discussions off-board. Keeping things on-board makes for more inclusive, friendly, and constructive discussions.

The One Sith didn't have a Skype chat when they first started, as far as I can tell.
