TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Mass Driver Cannon
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Depleted Baradium Shells
  • Ammunition Capacity: Extremely Large
  • Effective Range: Average - Long Range
  • Rate of Fire: Average
  • Stopping Power: High
  • Recoil: Average
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Polemos is a 203mm Depleted Baradium Shell, with an animated metal sealant for its jacket.
  • Shells are typically packed with thermite, and all shells are packed with an electromagnetic exciter disk in the rear of the shell.
  • An anti-ion mesh lines the shell beneath the animated metal sealant.
  • There are some shells that are packed with collapsium gas, and liquid baradium.
  • Ionization of the shell may be done by enabling the artillery unit’s ionization field.
  • There is an option to pack shells with ball bearings with the idea to create more shrapnel upon impact. [Ball Bearing]
  • Encapsulated tibanna gas accompanied by baradium-impregnated detonite encased in a conductive shell, can also be packed into shells. [Plasma]
  • Thermite gel along with encased conflagrine-14 may also be packed into the shells, with g-20 glop grenade components. [Incendiary]
  • Fast track mounting and fire-link capable, built-in heuristic data processing for performance improvement.
  • Single target tracking, and automated lock-on/lead system.
  • Internal temperature check, automated fail-safe and containment system.
  • Range-finder and built-in range sensors, automated warning for incoming fire.
  • Gauss/coil firing-mechanisms, electromagnetic rails.
  • Dedicated power generator with crystal chamber matrix featuring boreas and energy crystals. Includes heatsinks, fans and built-in cooling devices to prevent the cannon from overheating.
  • Remote exciter disk sensor system, remote detonation monitor, emergency detonation override system.
  • Twin-barrel design allows for more effective damage output.
STRENGTHS
  • Impact: Hard-hitting shells, with range, overtime the Polemos’ 203mm shells are meant to wear down an opponent's hull.
WEAKNESSES
  • Range: Unable to effectively engage in short-range combat.
  • Size: Unable to effectively hit targets smaller than twenty-five meters.
  • EMP/Ion: Can be affected by EMP/Ion weapons.
DESCRIPTION

The Polemos-type mass driver cannon is fitted to launch 203mm shells made of depleted baradium, coated with an animated metal sealant jacket. The shell can be launched as is or packed with different explosive ordnance materials to create a variety of effects on impact. The mass driver cannon follows Primo Victoria’s other cannons in design philosophy having its own dedicated power generator.

Development of the Polemos was started in late 861 ABY and completed in 862 ABY. It was meant as a step between the Bellona and the Mars-type mass driver cannons. Examination of Primo Victorian’s mass driver program revealed that there was room for improvement. Thus the ‘Avalonian’ Project began to not only upgrade but modernize the shipwright’s arsenal.

Which included adding smaller systems to the bottom of the shells beneath the exciter disk. The electromagnetic exciter disk is a new addition to Primo Victorian’s otherwise traditional, durasteel reinforced shells. The shells are equipped with miniature sensor systems to ensure exciter disks are ignited - and in case of failure that the shell’s contents are ignited.

Polemos is capable of fast-track mounting and can be fire linked. It features a twin-barrel design to increase damage output, and utilizes gauss/coil firing mechanisms which ensures that the Polemos is able to engage in long-range combat, in addition to standard turbolaser combat range.
