Planet Control?

I have a question about controlling planets, without factions. There are a number of characters on the board who are in control of planets, not necessarily owning the planets as far as I know but being in control. I would like to know if it is possible to accomplish this without faction involvement, what would be required, and what would happen if a faction took over.

I have the idea of having Ultimatum become leader of Mustafar is at all possible.

Thanks for your time.

There is no system to controlling planets unless you're a major faction. The only way to legitimately control a planet is to be a major faction and dominion that world. You can claim to be royalty or something in control of a planet, but the moment a major faction steps on that planet you can be cast out forcibly. For example, my character [member="Silara Kuhn"], Sith Lord, is the Empress of Koros Major (Empress Teta), but at any time the One Sith can send me a message and tell me I need to pack my bags, so to speak.

At the same time I can ignore everything they say, but that's in bad form (though I suppose forcing someone off of a planet with OOC control is, too).

So really you just do a site search of Mustafar, read every thread involving it, then try to find out if someone else runs the planet, be it a company or otherwise, and go from there.

To be fair, I've seen companies show up with entire fleets to deal with BS that's occurring on the planet which is their HQ.
I've also seen minor factions or writers who draft up a specific planet submission roleplay out being in charge of that planet.
They... can't really do much to stop a major faction from taking over that planet...
But they can roleplay to their heart's content with the characters and stories that they can come up with.

I'm gonna say this: It's much harder to go all Collector General on a canon planet than it is on a custom one. Dominions and the use of custom planets usually require the creator's permission, as far as I've seen, and you definitely have more freedom to do stuff.

On the subject of Mustafar itself, your best bet is to check the galaxy map and hope that it's not been taken by some major faction. I don't have the greatest eyesight, or any real knowledge of where the planet is geographically, so here's the current map, and I hope you get your lovely lava-filled hellhole for yourself :p

It's yours until a major faction dominions the planet.

Custom or canon planets may be taken as such without approval from anyone.

In a real sense you can 'own' a planet until a major faction officially takes it from you.

Is there anything in particular I should do to make the control more acceptable?
(Until such time as the planet is forced from my control, which will happen )

I've checked the planet on the Map and it looked empty and a quick search came up with no leaders as of yet. I didn't do a very thorough one so if there is please notify me.

From what I've seen, and that isn't much as of yet, I think your best option in terms of controlling Mustafar would be to start out Role-Playing there are the leader/general/warlord or what have you and slowly Character Dev yourself a minor faction. A friend on\f mine that has a lot more experience here than I told me that even minor factions, with enough IC developed resources and allies, can fend off Dominions.

Now I'm new here so I cannot put much stock in what he said, but it seems to me even if that wasn't true creating a minor faction puts you on the right path to starting a major one or merging with one of the already major powers-at-be. Who knows, if you get enough members you can become a provisional governor or something xD.

@Ultimatum Controlling a planet is easy to do when you're writing a personal storyline. Anyone is free to join in on the fun or to ignore it all together. However, since there is no way to actually enforce or to reinforce your rule, (especially if you're not a Major Faction), I can't personally recommend it for long term play. :D

Thanks all for your information, I appreciate it.

I'll begin working on some NPCs and some Locations and then a couple RPs.

Are there any suggestions as to what specifically to worry about, aside from Major Faction intervention?

Companies, other characters that might be in a position of power on the planet, and so on.
