First Reply Planeshift - Finding the Way

It’s just tequila and the beach
Her work was never done. It appeared that as more and more was occurring, there were places for Brooke to be. Witches in trouble. Some weren’t all that aware of the technology that they possessed. Not enough to fix it, or troubleshoot it. With most of what a Witch did, sit on their own planet, that was fine, but with all the planets a mess? Their own supply lines were in disarray. That was why she was out here, being the Farseeker that she was.

The Planeshift was making everything a mess. Blake-Merrill Starmap was busted, the Starchaser tech that was installed in most of her ships, was all sorts of FUBAR as it was going through upgrades. Luckily for her the Nautilos was doing its best of live updates. Still, it was needing to use the old networks of observatories that were scattered around the galaxy.

There had been one on Seatos, an ancient Witch world. And of course, the one near the core, on Kattada, more recent in construction, but just as useful, however the ship was still needing its updates.

“You need to touch down where?”

TOSHARA, FARSEEKER.

“Fine fine… We’ll get there, you’ve got us laid in already, I take it?”

AFFIRMATIVE.

The blue of hyperspace pulled back to the starfield as the ancient Arda ship moved to touch down, outskirts of any main settlements. With a ship like this, it was the smarter thing to do. Brooke grabbed her bag, the one that contained her lightsaber, just in case, even if she was more than ready to handle anything with just the charms on her person.

“I’ll take a swoop and see what I can find. And send coordinates.”

As she stepped into the grassland of Toshara and her swoop was lowered, the blonde took her macrobinoculars out and surveyed the area. Between that and the Force, she had a heading, but the first real step was to pass by Jaunta’s Hope.

The planeshift was as fascinating as it was terrifying.

And it had left the half-witch stranded.

Kaila had been to these lands once before, in a simpler time when her only worry was the Pykes and her own underworld dealings. Did she long for those days in fleeting episodes of nostalgia? No, but she was nevertheless thankful for the memory, knowing that this road led to the capitol where she may find no shortage of spacers and folks of varying moralities. People who would not ask questions if she paid enough.

People who might know which hyperlanes had yet to collapse...

First however she would pass through Jaunta's Hope, over the next hill if her senses told the truth

And so she strode onward, kept company only by the dull tapping of her staff against the dirt, and the whispering of spirits bound to her being. Annoying as their prattling was however, nothing beat down on her so much as the Toshara sun. She was thankful then for the sun hat, from which dangled ribbons emblazoned with the mystic symbols of Dathomir which radiated a chill air, courtesy of a living grimoire that taught her to enchant such talismans. It was just enough to ease the oppressive sting of Toshara's star.

"
Almost there..." she murmured to the disquieted spirits.

"
...you're not getting rid of me that easy."

The sea witch could agree with the other on this world, that it was a fascinating time, a bit terrifying, and a challenge for many of the galaxy, but from the book side of her? Fascinating. Unlike many witches, Brooke did enjoy a good study on things, and while she had her other tasks that she did, unlike many Witches, she was constantly pushing the bounds of what was possible, and taking bits from everyone.

A life of a former Jedi hell bent on showing the galaxy that there was another way, a better way. She worked with jedi, sure, but there were so many other people she did work with that it didn’t matter. What mattered more were the so-called clandestine contacts she made many a year ago.

Bounty hunters. And smugglers. Not during the same tide in her life, but close enough.

Light blue and white gauzing robes fluttered around her person, translucent in the sunlight, showing her smart fitting top and slacks. Boots rounded out the outfit, along with her jewelry, enchanted as it were, still looking, as she hoped, galactic coastal chic. She made her way back into the ship, missing the final piece, especially on a world dry as this. Her Book of Tides. She would need that this far from any sea.

This added the bandolier with a few knives, and other witch accessories to her person as she straddled her swoop.

A blasting ride through the grasslands was… much drier than she suspected and a few stop to expand water in the small vial she held to keep her skin moist. While a hybrid, she still needed some humidity. As she came into the bounds of Jaunta’s Hope, she looked around, coming to a slow as she saw a few structures, and the starport.

But she wasn’t even looking for the cantina, no. She had a bit more of a place to look for. As she parked her swoop, the blonde pulled a blue crystal, not quite kyber, out of her purse. Dangling on a string, she would be whispering an enchantment to it, one of seeking.

Of seeking one like her.

The walk was tiring, but she couldn't risk anyone identifying her ship after Tatooine.

Entering Jaunta's hope she was met with what was once the familiar sight of any outer rim town; dusty roads, almost dome-like buildings of durasteel and the few denizens who kept themselves busy. But not too busy to stare at newcomers. Kaila kept to herself, never turning from the direction she was headed, even if her eyes, aglow beneath the shade her hat, would often dart and narrow.

Further down the street however, another had come the opposite way some time before herself.

And judging by the parked speeder, was equally a stranger.

Kaila would pause her journey, head tilting at the sight of a crystal dangling from string. She didn't know as much as she would like, but by those vibrant robes and the way she held her trinket, knew enough to suspect the force was in play.

And not the dark side either...

The woman ahead of her was therefore a variable she'd not considered, like as not to be a curse much as a blessing to her journey home, or what was currently claimed to be at least. But her options were few.

"
...Excuse me..." she began, waving a gloved hand in greeting.

Still, she grumbled under her breath, battling with her own doubts.

"
Do you know the way to Mirogana? I find myself in need of a navigator and I am unsure where else to find one."

"
I am afraid this bloody hyperspace business is beyond me." she chuckled, trying to mask the edge in her tone.

Kaila stopped a few paces out of arm's reach, heralded by one last metallic ✱ tap✱ of her staff. All the while she angled the brim of her hat down, trying to hide those eyes in case she were speaking to a Jedi.

Her only visible features then were locks of golden hair spilt over her shoulders, and black painted lips.

Her outfit did make her a bit more of a stand out. The blonde was lithe, and her style betrayed her as a woman of the Core worlds. Or at least of some wealth. That didn't really help her keep a low profile. But Brooke was never one for subtly. Her ship was a whole other thing, and here she was holding a glowing crystal while walking the streets of Jaunta's Hope.

It wasn't as if she was really hiding. She wasn't thinking that people were out here looking for Force users. Hopefully the fact that she was looking for Force signatures would make it obvious to her quarry.

The blonde was a witch, some would say an elder witch, but she would never speak about the full extent of her knowledge.

Looking up, she heard the other woman.

Mirogana? Must be a place on this world. "Honestly. I don't. I'm here on other business…" When the other mentioned a bit of stranding, Brooke eased and reconsidered the cold current she thought to put up.

"You're stuck here… and a witch, of some manner, yeah?" Could be useful to the both of them.

"Of some manner." she confirmed hesitantly.

"
Stuck, as you say, by the collapse of a hyperlane forcing me aground here."

To be called a witch filled her with as much pride as it did guilt. She knew a spell or two now, wore the charms, but did she feel worthy of the title? hardly. A pretender at best, she thought, cosplaying her ancestors.

But then realization struck her; the woman before her was neither of these things.

And If she recognized her connection to Dathomir, then that means...

"
You also practice the craft, If I'm not mistaken?" she asked, cautiously hopeful.

"
Two sisters—or cousins beside—in one place. What curious forces of fate are at work here, I wonder."

She'd seen too much to believe that the Force did not intertwine ones paths without reason. The only question in her mind was what The Will planned for them, and how this woman fit into those cosmic schemes.

"
If it is not too personal a question, to what business do you allude? perhaps we might help one another."

Trusting in strangers did not often appeal to the young Darth, but she'd done far more harrowing things for curiosity alone, and this blue witch made her very curious indeed.

"
I am Kaila, if it please you to exchange names." she switched the staff to her left hand so as to shake the witch's properly.

Though her metal bones would see to a firmer grip than unexpected, if taken up on the offer.

The fact that there was another Forcer here, let alone a Witch that seemed at least mostly Dathomir educated. The blonde couldn’t help but smile as she looked over at the other, who approached. Brooke had a few things she could sy, but at the moment? She was taking it all in. Toshara was not the best place for her and the water bottle she had dangled at her side, mostly empty as she arrived in the town.

City.

Settlement.

As she and the other began talking, Brooke nodded. “Yes, the hyperlanes are causing all manner of issues. I’ve been told Baobab is on the case. We can only hope that the navigators can solve this issue.” She was a bit of a navigator, but not nearly as much as the Wardens she knew. But this woman wore the vestments and symbols of Dathomir.

She’d call it home, but Brooke had taken her clan galaxy wide.

“Working on locating places of old, honestly. There is rumor of an observatory from the Nightsister empire out this way. Trying to locate it, a simple spell but all the same…”
She shrugged. Toshara was a big world.

“I’m known as Brooke.”
Well, in some circles, Token. But that was not a name she offered freely. “Have you heard of the observatories?”

"Nightsisters?" rust-gold brows rose to the brim of her hat "out here?"

It made sense, she supposed. There were rumors of Nightsister structures on Seatos even, not far from Toshara and the Mara Corridor relatively speaking.

"
Well..." she pinched her chin in thought.

"
I know they once spread far as Seatos in the west, and Arcana in the east."

"
I've never seen the observatories for myself, but..."

Thinking on it, the observatory could be exactly what she needed to navigate the stars in these uncertain times. Or maybe curiosity had gotten the better of her.

Nevertheless, she was committed now.

"
Perhaps the old magicks will prevail where technology has failed."

She would tilt her head at the crystal then, taking mental note of it's features.

"
So how does it work then?" she pointed at the trinket.

"
If you want help, I've developed a... sense, if you will, for spirits. I'd imagine they cling to such places."

She knew it was risky to offer her aid to strangers, but if she could pass herself off as a nightsister more than sith, then perhaps they could part peacefully by journey's end. That may prove difficult however, given her inexperience with her homeworld.

Kaila's fingers anxiously drummed along her staff.

Maybe it would better to present her strengths for now.

"
We could go together, if it proves real. It was my duty once to investigate lost temples and tombs, to learn from runes and bones."

"
If nothing else, company couldn't hurt, yes?" she smiled.
