Factory Plagiarism Question

Hi, I don’t know for certain if I’m using the right prefix, but here I go. I was thinking of submitting an idea for a weapon that’s takes a lot of inspiration, almost to the point of copy pasting, from a real life weapon that I thought about tweaking and altering for the use of naval warfare. Does this count as plagiarism or no?

Strictly speaking, plagiarism is copying someone else's ideas and passing them off as your own. So for example if you were to copy the wave motion gun from battleship Yamato then that would be plagiarism. When it comes to real-world weapons the line gets blurry, however, I would still hold to the rule of drawing inspiration without copying it straight over. It's very easy to tweak a concept to make it your own and adding that flavour or twist to it.
