SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Projects a terror-inducing variant of Battle Meditation over a localized battlefield. Note: A Localized Battlefield consists of the active area where the Device is engaged.
This is not an all-encompassing radius. For example, if actively engaging a Fleet, the Device will not reach Orbit or the Ground.
STRENGTHS

Shroud of Fear: The Phobis Devices do one thing extremely well. They possess the capacity to project a perversion of Battle Meditation over a localized battlefield. The magnitude of the affect is relatively uniform across the radius, although diminish returns can be noted at the fringes of its effective area; meaning that the further one is away from the Device, the better chance they have of resisting its affects. The Phobis Devices injects personal, terrifying images into the minds it touches. It shatters focus, it erodes confidence, and can even drive trained, discipled officers to tearful breakdowns or suicide.

WEAKNESSES

Resistances: As is the case with all mind-altering artifacts, there are a plethora of beings and items that are immune to its affects. First and foremost, any and all things that produce a Force-neutral zone are safe from the affects; examples of these are Ysalamir or Voidstone. Next, those who are dead to the Force, such as Yuuzhan Vong, are also completely immune. Also, species with exceptional mental abilities, such as Umbaran or Epicanthix, can effectively resist or even ignore the Phobis Devices' affects. Lastly, traditional forms of mental defense, such as standard Battle Meditation, can be used as a defense.

Durability: Although terrifying in effect, and encased in Durasteel for good measure, the Phobis Devices are not invincible. A well placed series of blaster bolts can completely destroy them. They are excessively fragile, and therefore extremely susceptible to common weapons of war.

Light: As is also the case with all Alchemically created artifacts, the Phobis Core is divinely susceptible to Force Light. Its affects can be pierced by it, and it can be outright damaged or destroyed upon direct exposure.

Radius: Although initimately tied to Darth Metus, the Phobis Devices do not recognize friend or foe. They spread terror across a battlefield and affect any minds they come in contact with. For that reason, utilizing these weapons in the presence of allies proves difficult, for attempting to cause an enemy disadvantage can also cripple one's own forces.

DESCRIPTION

The tale of the modern Phobis Devices is rooted in the Core.

Utilizing the same methods of discovery as months prior, Darth Metus pulled back the veil on the Phobis Devices' origins. By means of psychometry and very unwilling participants, the Sith was able to glean enough information to learn that the key to their power was Sorcery itself. In particular, Smoke Demons. By providing the Demons with fresh sacrifices and creating a perpetual loop of torment within a crystalline shell, Darth Metus was able to replicate the creation of the Devices from eons ago.

And with the replication came the same terrifying results. As a whole, they possess the might to project unbridled terror across a localized battlefield. They manifest personal and vicious images in the minds of their enemies, prompting the weak to be reduced to tears - or even to see suicide as an escape. When employed correctly, Chaos is often the result. Thus, by replicating the steps of the past and mastering the Phobis Devices has Darth Metus laid claim to the idea of Dread itself. He is their Master.

His enemies had a new reason to be afraid.

These are artifacts of extreme power, by Chaos and Canon standards. Therefore, in PvP scenarios, they will never be used to force damage on another writer. All damage sustained is up to their discretion - even if that means taking no damage at all. The intent here is a plot piece, a wrench in the typical formula of battles. This is not being submitted to pull out easy wins, but to provide an obstacle that allies and enemies alike will have to overcome on the battlefield.

over a localized battlefield.
Please define this with a radius. A localized battlefield can be anything from a massive fleet encounter over a planet to a ground assault on a city.

I need something fixed within reason.

What do you suggest as far as verbage?

I imagine a radius similar to Dark Harvest (if you recall), where it's about as large as a capital ship formation when used in space or the general vicinity of the individual on the ground.

I'm not envisioning using this in orbit, hitting every ship and the ground. No way.

As I elaborated above, I feel a balanced meterage would be where the Device is actively being engaged. Localized Battlefield is not all encompassing, if it is used in a fleet engagement, it will only affect the ships around it, not the orbit/ground below or anything ridiculous like that. I don't have a specific meter, but a more general sense if that's okay.

I also beefed up the Immunities/Resistances a bit by mentioning mental defenses such as standard Battle Meditation.
