Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

I arrived on Fresia beneath a sky the color of polished steel, where even the clouds seem engineered; measured, regulated, obedient to unseen corporate calculus. The planet's capital sprawled beneath me like a chain of glass and alloy veins, every structure aligned with obsessive precision, as if the world itself were a ledger that refused to tolerate imbalance.

As I descend into the lower corridors of the East Side, I allowed myself a rare admission; I am impressed. Not by beauty, but by discipline made architecture. The Web of Shadows thrives in places like this, where order believes itself immune to infiltration.

I moved through the lower arteries until the air thickened with neon haze and filtered smoke, the polished world above bleeding into something more honest below. My destination is a cantina tucked between maintenance catwalks and data relay pylons, a place called The Fractured Cipher, where information is bought more often than drink.

There I am to meet a representative of the Nexus Collective; architects of the cyber unseen, weavers of code who think themselves beyond reach because they exist in networks rather than streets. I find that arrogance familiar. I entered without ceremony, my presence folding the room's noise into uneasy silence.

But I have not come to trade. I came to see how easily the Nexus Collective can be drawn into the Web of Shadows, and how swiftly something that believes itself incorporeal learns it still casts a very real and exploitable shadow.

Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

I stepped through the arched entrance of the cantina and was immediately greeted by a wave of stale air, cheap laughter, and the sour scent of desperation that seemed to cling to every shadowed corner. My crimson eyes drifted across the dim chamber, taking in the gamblers hunched over illuminated sabacc tables, the intoxicated merchants drowning their ambitions in liquor, and the hired blades whose predatory gazes searched endlessly for opportunity.

Disgust stirred within me like a coiled serpent. The place was a monument to weakness masquerading as freedom, a den where lesser beings willingly surrendered themselves to indulgence and decay. Yet such places often concealed valuable truths beneath their filth, and so I endured the spectacle with silent contempt.

Without acknowledging the curious stares that followed my passage, I moved toward the furthest booth at the rear of the establishment, where darkness pooled thickly against the walls and granted me a commanding view of the entire room.

Settling into the seat, I drummed fingers against the table and summoned a server with the slightest motion of my hand. "A frosted fruit draught," I ordered curtly.

Moments later, a chilled glass beaded with condensation rested before me. I lifted it, taking a measured sip as I waited. Somewhere beyond these walls, a representative of the Nexus Collective was making their approach. Until then, I remained still within the gloom, a patient predator concealed among prey, observing every movement while the Force whispered of possibilities yet to come.

The murmur of the cantina shifted almost imperceptibly as the newcomer entered. From my place within the shadows, I watched a young human woman step through the doorway, her long black hair flowing like liquid midnight across her shoulders.

Pale skin, flawless as carved ivory, seemed to catch what little light existed within the establishment, and her beauty possessed a strange, dangerous quality capable of stopping weaker hearts in their chests. She appeared far too young to be walking unguarded through a den such as this, yet there was neither hesitation nor fear in her measured stride.

Her dark eyes swept across the crowded chamber, studying faces, exits, and hidden corners with practiced precision before eventually finding me seated at the rear of the cantina.

A faint smile touched her lips as she approached and settled gracefully into the seat opposite mine. For a moment she regarded me in silence, as though comparing reality to some description she had been given. Then, with complete sincerity, she asked, "Are you Lady Sycophantia?"

The question earned from me a slow turn of the head and a curious stare that bordered on disbelief. Beneath the hood, one dark eyebrow rose ever so slightly. Of all the introductions I had anticipated from a representative of the Nexus Collective, such an ignorant inquiry had not been among them.

The Force itself seemed to pause as I regarded her, wondering whether this woman possessed remarkable courage, remarkable foolishness, or some unsettling combination of both.

I allowed the silence to linger for a moment, lifting my frosted fruit draught and taking a measured sip before fixing her with an unimpressed stare. "If you must ask after crossing an entire cantina and walking directly to my table," I said in dry, cutting tones, "then I can only hope those you represent possess far sharper aptitudes for observation than the one sent to greet me."

A faint, humorless smile touched my lips as I set the glass back upon the table. "As introductions go, it is certainly memorable, though not, I suspect, for the reasons the Nexus Collective would prefer."

The woman's flawless features remained still for a heartbeat, as though my words had struck a note so foreign that she had to determine whether she had truly heard them. Then she leaned back into her seat with effortless grace, pale fingers drumming lightly against the armrest as a rich laugh escaped her lips, warm and genuine amidst the dim gloom of the cantina.

The sound carried through the haze of neon and shadow like a blade of silver light cutting through a crypt. Amusement danced within her dark eyes as she regarded me, not with offense, but with a growing sense of approval.

"I like you, Lady Sycophantia," she said, her tone smooth and approving, carrying the confidence of one accustomed to commanding worlds hidden behind networks and encrypted veils.

"Most beings either tremble before the unknown or attempt to flatter it. You did neither." Her smile widened slightly, touched by both mischief and authority. "My name is Eternity. Just Eternity."

She allowed the name to linger in the air like a carefully placed secret before inclining her head. "And I am the leader of the Nexus Collective."

A faint smirk tugged at the corner of my lips, a rare expression amidst the cold austerity that usually cloaked my features. Amusement stirred within me as I studied the woman across the table. She was not merely brave enough to meet my gaze without flinching, nor confident enough to command an organization that thrived within the hidden arteries of the galactic datastream.

No, Eternity possessed something far rarer, an entertaining spirit. There was wit behind her eyes, a playful sharpness that made her every word feel like the opening move of a game played several turns ahead. I found myself liking her already, a realization as unexpected as it was intriguing.

Leaning back slightly, I allowed a quiet chuckle to escape me, the sound carrying an unusual warmth beneath its dark timbre.
"This is definitely a memorable introduction," I said in surprisingly friendly, almost comedic tones.

"After all, I must applaud both your ruse and your creativity. Most beings announce themselves with titles, fleets, or excessive self-importance. You chose mystery and amusement." I spread my hands slightly before me.

"I believe I see a foreseeable profitable partnership in our futures, Eternity." Across from me, the woman smiled, her pale features brightening with unmistakable satisfaction as the shadows of the cantina seemed to retreat from her expression.

Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

The capital's underbelly breathed like a wounded beast; corridors of rusted durasteel and flickering lumen-strips, where the air itself tasted of spilled synth-ale, fear, and old betrayals. I moved through it with Eternity at my side, her presence as precise and composed as a blade kept just barely sheathed, while the shadows recoiled from neither of us so much as they recalculated.

Above us, the city proclaimed order; below, it confessed the truth. Eternity spoke as we walked, her voice low, almost conversational, as if she were describing weather rather than the anatomy of power, explaining how the Nexus Collective gathers what others bury; fragments of intercepted transmissions, whispered contracts, erased identities, the kinds of knowledge that rot kingdoms from within.

"It does not rule through territory or force," she said, "but through the disciplined acquisition, trade, and monetization of highly sensitive intelligence; each secret weighed, priced, and circulated like currency in a market no senator admits exists."

As we continued our walk, she would take small glances at me, gauging my silence before she spoke again. "It acts as a central broker between rival syndicates, compromised officials, and subterranean networks that would otherwise devour one another, binding them instead through carefully controlled exchanges of leverage."

I drew breath to speak, the weight of the meeting pressing like a crown of iron behind my teeth, when Eternity's voice slipped in; gentle, almost understanding, as though she had already mapped the contours of my intent and found them familiar; she acknowledged, softly, that I had gone through considerable effort to stand in this place, to summon this meeting from the choking depths of the undercity.

Then she turned her gaze upon me with a quiet, searching curiosity, tilting the balance of the moment as she asked, without accusation yet with undeniable precision,
"Why have you come at all, and what, beneath the shadows you wear so carefully, is your true interest in the Nexus Collective?"

I stopped so abruptly that the tattered hem of my cloak whispered across the cracked duracrete road like claws being drawn across stone. Ahead of me, Eternity continued several paces before sensing my absence. She turned, dark hair shifting against pale features, a puzzled crease touching her brow as the neon glow of distant signs painted ghostly colors across her face.

Around us, the underbelly of the city groaned with the sounds of desperate commerce and hungry ambition, but I paid no heed to it. My gaze wandered over the crumbling streets, the scavengers masquerading as merchants, the gangs masquerading as powers, the countless souls content to claw at scraps while imagining themselves kings.

It was a familiar sickness, one I had witnessed across a hundred worlds.

I fixed Eternity with a cold stare sharpened by contempt and purpose alike.
"Unlike you, I can see the larger picture," I said, my voice carrying the harsh authority of a command rather than a conversation. "Larger than whatever trifling organization you oversee today. I did not come here to admire this spectacle of third-rate pretenders dressing themselves in the garments of greatness."

I swept a hand toward the streets around us, toward the decaying empire of false significance.
"I came with a proposal; one tethered to profit, influence, and futures worth claiming. Unless, of course, you are satisfied with all this..." My lip curled beneath the shadow of my hood.

"Satisfied watching ambitious fools convince themselves they are something they are not."

Eternity blinked several times before abruptly shaking her head. Both hands rose between us, palms outward as though she were physically attempting to halt the torrent of words and ambition crashing toward her. For a moment she looked less like a leader of some growing enterprise and more like a woman struggling to force disparate pieces into a coherent whole.

The neon glow of the undercity reflected within her dark eyes as realization and confusion wrestled for dominance.
"Wait, wait," she said, her voice carrying a questioning edge. "After everything you did just to arrange this meeting, you're looking to hire us? To make credits?"

A pulse of irritation crawled beneath my skin. I felt it coiling within me like a serpent awakening from slumber, fed by the absurdity of her conclusion. Yet I strangled the anger before it could reach my face, burying it beneath discipline forged through years of conquest and manipulation.

My expression remained cold, though a mocking sternness entered my voice.
"That is a remarkably foolish question," I replied. "No. I am not offering to hire you so you can make credits. I am offering you the opportunity to work for me."

My gaze narrowed, fixing her in place like a specimen beneath a scholar's lens.
"But before you interrupt again, you are going to listen and fully understand the entirety of my proposal. Then you may decide whether your questions remain worth asking."

Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

I began to walk once more through the dim alleyway, my boots striking the ancient durasteel with a measured cadence that echoed like a funeral hymn through the shadows.

Beside me walked Eternity, silent and patient, awaiting whatever words I deemed worthy of breaking the quiet. I could feel her curiosity lingering at the edge of my awareness, a cautious anticipation woven into the currents of the Force. Around us, flickering lumens cast long skeletal silhouettes upon the passing building walls, transforming the passageway into a cathedral of darkness where every step felt like a march toward destiny itself.

For several moments I allowed the silence to linger, letting the weight of it settle between us before finally speaking.
"I am the one who commands the Web of Shadows," I said, my voice smooth as polished obsidian.

"Its agents, smugglers, informants, financiers, mercenaries, and hidden allies stretch across countless worlds. Through our networks, combined with the Nexus Collective and its existing influence, both organizations will profit beyond anything either could accomplish alone."

I paused briefly allowing Eternity to soak up the words. "The Collective will gain new contacts, secure trade routes, intelligence channels, and a steady flow of resources. The Web of Shadows, in turn, will provide armed security for your safe houses, installations, operations, and whatever sanctuaries you choose to establish. Should you accept my proposal, we will begin immediately to rebuild the Collective's infrastructure, strengthen its assets, and expand its reach."

I allowed a faint smile to touch my lips, though there was little warmth within it. "You will remain the leader of the Nexus Collective. Its people will still look to you for guidance. However, understand this clearly, you will answer only to me. Once you align yourself with the Web of Shadows, we move forward together beneath a single banner."

"There are designs already in motion, plans far greater than mere profit or influence," I continued, my voiced edged with prophecy, "the galaxy is changing, old powers are weakening, and new empires are waiting to be born from the darkness. The Web of Shadows and the Nexus Collective will stand at the center of that transformation."

I could sense Eternity's mind spinning like a wheel, as she was slowly putting the pieces together. Without breaking stride, nor a glance to my walking companion, I added, "Together we will expand, consolidate our strength, seize opportunities others fail to see, and shape events from behind the veil while the rest of the galaxy remains blissfully unaware of the hands guiding its fate."

Slowly, I turned my head toward Eternity, the folds of my dark robe whispering softly as they shifted with the motion. For a long moment I regarded her in silence, red eyes fixed upon her as though weighing the worth of her soul itself, while the shadows stretched between us like silent witnesses to the bargain being forged.

"The Nexus Collective is in," Eternity said at last, her voice carrying both resolve and caution.

A faint smile curved across my lips, cold and sharp as a freshly honed vibroblade.
"A wise decision," I replied, inclining my head slightly. "Then tell me more about these sanctuaries of yours. Their locations, their strengths, their weaknesses, everything."

"We will visit them," I continued, satisfaction glowing across my red face, "assess their circumstances firsthand, determine what resources they require, and identify what threats lurk beyond their walls. If the Nexus Collective is to become part of the Web of Shadows, then every refuge, every hidden asset, and every corner of your network must be brought into the light of our scrutiny. Only then can we reshape them into something stronger, something capable of enduring the storms that are coming."

Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

The galaxy unfolded before us like a vast and tattered shroud draped across the corpse of eternity. I traveled beside Eternity from one hidden refuge of the Nexus Collective to another, threading through forgotten hyperspace lanes and drifting between worlds whose names had long since faded from the memories of empires.

These safe houses were concealed within rusting industrial sectors, beneath neon-soaked cityscapes, and buried deep within forgotten colonies where shadows lingered longer than sunlight. There, I observed the agents of the Collective moving through their duties with practiced precision; slicers hunched over glowing terminals like monks deciphering forbidden scripture, brokers weaving webs of information from whispered conversations, and field operatives exchanging encrypted data beneath dim lumens that painted their faces in ghostly hues.

They were cogs within a growing machine, yet each possessed a spark of ambition that intrigued me.

As Eternity spoke with handlers and coordinators, I remained silent more often than not, allowing my gaze to wander through the dark arteries of the organization. Inwardly, my thoughts churned like a storm trapped beneath black waters. I saw inefficiencies hidden behind successes, opportunities concealed within routine, and potential waiting to be sharpened into something far deadlier and far grander.

New training doctrines, expanded intelligence networks, deeper infiltration of rival factions, and stronger methods of loyalty all took shape within the cathedral of my mind.

The Nexus Collective was already formidable in the small fish, big pond scenario, but I envisioned something greater; a living web stretching across the stars, so vast and subtle that entire governments would move according to strands they could neither see nor comprehend.

As I walked those dim corridors beside Eternity, listening to the distant hum of machinery and the murmurs of devoted agents, I was not merely observing the Collective. I was already reshaping it within the darkness of my imagination.

Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

The sleek starship groaned around us like some colossal sepulcher adrift between realities, its hull trembling beneath the impossible pressures of hyperspace. Beyond the viewports, the universe had been reduced to screaming rivers of cobalt and violet luminescence, vast spectral veins stretched across eternity itself.

I sat motionless within the dim chamber, crimson eyes reflecting those ghostly currents as shadows gathered about my throne-like seat. The vessel's engines sang a low mechanical dirge through the deck plates, a sound akin to the distant heartbeat of some sleeping cosmic horror.

Across from me sat Eternity, the architect and voice of the Nexus Collective, and I regarded her with the measured scrutiny of a predator contemplating the future shape of its territory.

"This operation is small," I said in stern, unwavering tones, my fingers interlocked before me.

"And that suits the plan. Small things survive where empires collapse beneath their own weight. We remain small. We begin the cuts after arranging personal interviews with your principal agents, and then with every subordinate beneath them, all the way down the line."

My eyes looked out to the cold void of space, my lips curling slightly before exhaling. "I wish to know every mind that serves this Collective, every ambition, every weakness, every concealed fracture. From there we shall construct stronger foundations, better safe houses hidden within the forgotten corners of the galaxy, places from which your people may operate beyond the reach of curious eyes. And, as I mentioned earlier, those locations will be provided security by the Web of Shadows."

The words emerged cold and deliberate, each one another stone laid into the architecture of a future only I could yet fully perceive. The hyperspace glow danced across the black markings adorning my crimson skin, making them resemble living sigils shifting beneath flesh.

Eternity remained silent for several moments before inclining her head.
"You mentioned them before," she interrupted politely. "The Web of Shadows. Who are they?"

The interruption earned not anger but a small, courteous smile from me, rare as sunlight upon a tomb world. The expression lingered only briefly before fading back into measured composure.

Outside the viewport, hyperspace writhed like an ocean of trapped spirits, and I watched its impossible currents for a moment before answering. "An organization born within darkness and sustained by it," I said quietly. "Smugglers, information brokers, traders, financiers, security specialists, and countless unseen hands moving where governments cannot."

I allowed a faint, knowing smile to touch my lips as the rivers of hyperspace howled beyond the viewport like imprisoned gods clawing against the walls of reality. "A meeting with the Web will come later," I said, my voice measured and cold, carrying through the dim chamber like a blade drawn across stone.

"For now, we secure buildings and establish foundations capable of generating other streams of revenue. Safe houses alone do not sustain an enterprise; they must be surrounded by assets, businesses, and opportunities that feed the greater organism."

My gaze drifted toward the spectral currents beyond the glass as countless possibilities unfolded within my thoughts.
"I am considering the Southwestern Expansion Region, deep within the heart of Sith space. It is fertile ground for our purposes. There, criminal activity is not restrained beneath the boot of nervous bureaucrats; it is cultivated, rewarded, and woven into the machinery of society itself."

Savage Queen of Hearts - by Neon Dreams

The chamber in which we gathered seemed less a boardroom than a sepulcher carved from the ribs of some ancient celestial leviathan. Black transparisteel windows gazed out into the endless abyss, where distant stars glimmered like the eyes of slumbering gods trapped beyond reality's veil.

Around the smoothed and polished ebony table sat the architects of our growing dominion; Eternity, Mer Hops'in, Jakok Jakob, and Ryi Voltek.

Shadows pooled between us like dark water, shifting and breathing with unseen life as discussions of mergers, resources, intelligence networks, and hidden holdings echoed beneath vaulted ceilings adorned with forgotten symbols.

I listened in silence, crimson eyes wandering from face to face, sensing the currents of ambition, caution, and anticipation that moved beneath their measured words.

"As promised," I finally said, my voice drifting through the chamber like velvet drawn across a crypt door, "Mr. Jakob will personally oversee the details concerning security for the Collective's assets. Likewise, Eternity has agreed to share all of the data the Collective has amassed with you, Mr. Voltek."

The Muun's pale features betrayed a flicker of satisfaction before Jakok inclined his head toward Eternity first. "When you have some time, Eternity, I have devised a few outlines ahead of these proceedings for you to review."

Eternity offered a small nod. "Later this afternoon would be good. Shortly after this meeting I'm to meet with Mr. Voltek, correct?" Voltek folded his hands together, his gaze gleaming with quiet hunger. "Yes. I look forward to working with you, and I am quite fascinated by what the Collective has secretly tucked away over the years."

The atmosphere thickened with the scent of opportunity, as though unseen entities lingered just beyond perception, listening eagerly to the birth of something vast and dangerous.

I allowed myself a faint smile, one that never quite reached my eyes.
"And Mr. Hops'in and myself will be tending to the shipments of materials destined for the Collective's newly acquired assets and locations, so that their newly laid out goals may begin without delay."

My fingers traced the edge of the table as the darkness seemed to gather closer around my chair. "But, lady and gentlemen, our work is still not done." The room fell silent. Even the distant hum of machinery beyond the walls seemed to recede into nothingness.

"There remains one final player left to bring into our fold, into our vision. Once they stand beside us, once their strength and influence are woven into our web, then our enterprise shall be complete."

I looked upon them all, seeing not merely associates, but threads within a design far greater than themselves. Somewhere beyond the stars, beyond the reach of ordinary minds, the final strand awaited, and when it was drawn tight, the Web of Shadows and the Nexus Collective would become something the galaxy would neither comprehend nor escape.

{the end...}
