Description:

The Fel Imperium built the Phantom-Class Assault Gunship in order to provide their military with a platform capable of CAS to their infantry on the ground. In place of passenger support, the gunship makes up with a heavy hitting armament. Under each wing is a Mass-Driver Missile Pod that holds 35 missiles each and a harness capable of holding up to three proton torpedoes each (for engaging in air-to-air combat). Under the cockpit and near the front of the craft (the two silver barrels protruding from the front) are the first set of six composite laser beams on the craft. The second set is located at the back of the vehicle and the last two are separated (one retractable ball turret on the bottom of the craft and one on the top). Finally, there is a single double barreled anti-infantry laser on the front of the craft and a single barreled version on the back.

In terms of defenses, the ship has a tough hide that is nearly immune to small arms blaster fire and it contains a total of six counter measures. Despite this seemingly great set-up, the ship has horrible short comings. To begin, the ship is prone to sudden electrical shorts in the engines due to faulty wiring that is universal to the craft despite attempts to solve the issue. It is not uncommon for the ship to suddenly fall out of the sky due to engine failure. Upon an engine failure, the craft will set off a warning alarm that sounds like a small bell being rung which has resulted in the common nickname “The bell” or “The Bell From Hell” because of its infamous mechanical issues.

Perhaps the worst problem about these mechanical failures is the fact that the ships reactor cannot hold up to the strain put on it during an impact with the ground. Due to the placement of the reactor, upon impact with a hard surface (mainly seen during a crash) the structure of the gunship with put opposing strains on either side of the reactor which results in a catastrophic failure and a subsequent explosion that kills everyone on board. So common is this particular failure that it is actually considered rare for the ship to not explode on impact. This, with slow speed to top it off, makes this gunship a true double edged sword in combat.
