Intent: To create a proper ground support vehicle for the Protectorate
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer:

  • Fondor TerraTech (Hull)
  • Corellian Engineering (Weapons)
Model: PGV-35 Tauntaun
Affiliation: Omega Protectorate/Omega Pyre
Modularity: Yes
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Durasteel
Description: As the enemies of the Protectorate innovated and learned, so too did the Protectorate. With lessons learned from its most recent successes and failures, as well as with data received from conflicts abroad from its allies, the PGV-35 Tauntaun was designed to solve the problem of defending positions while minimizing time expended. The Iblis-class Planetary Assault Carriers are capable of deploying forward operating bases in short time. However, these bases are forcibly abandoned in the case of retreat and useless if the enemy alters tactics and engages a different location.

Thus, the PGV-35 was designed. With its role clear, the PGV-35 is designed to deploy stabilizing anchors while a heavier turret is deployed from the back of the vehicle. This secondary turret is modular in payload. Boasting a B-type OmniPod, one PGV-35 can have a radically different mission profile from the next. While it can take hours to set up even the simplest F.O.B, the PGV-35 can deploy and create a secure zone in as little as five minutes. This allows extreme flexibility in deployments of Protectorate troops and defenses as the PGV-35 can move with the main force, minimizing wasted expenditures.

The PGV-35's ability to deploy and field additional weapons or support structures is crucial and is a tactical value that cannot be overstated. Small deflector shield domes can be set up, allowing for mobile command centers to be setup. Large quantities of bacta or other crucial payload can be transported quickly across the battlefield. Hot spots can have additional defenses set up to repel invades in little time.

All of this does come at a price though. The PGV-35 has relatively poor handling over anything more than light terrain. As a wheeled vehicle, a necessity due to the weight of the deployable frame, the PGV-35 cannot cross deep water, uneven or unstable terrain, and is crippled if more than a single drive shaft is damaged.

A transport variant of the PGV-35 does exist that lacks the OmniPod array, allowing it to carry twelve passengers.

Strengths:
This Isn't Even My Final Form: The PGV-35 is capable of deploying a heavier secondary weapon array or support apparatus, allowing the vehicle to function as a rapid-deployable defense turret.

Weaknesses:
You're Going Nowhere: In order to deploy the secondary array, the PGV-35 must anchor itself to the ground. Deployment time takes five minutes, so while the vehicle can get set up relatively quickly, moving it while in combat will be difficult. Without this secondary weapon array, the PGV-35 is considerably undergunned for its size.
