Personal Timelines?

I'm new here, but I've been roleplaying for a long time. Where I've roleplayed before has usually been a lot less active and a lot more linear, with only one RP thread. I've seen a lot of people have their PCs in more than one thread at the same time, which I'd love to eventually be able to do, but I just don't know how to do it.

I suppose my question is... how do you guys keep track of when everything happens to your characters? Do you just decide when a certain thread happens? How do you decide when certain events take place?

Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

For me it's usually the same as thread chronology itself. I.E., if thread A is posted today, and thread B tomorrow, that's what I'll consider the IC timeline to be as well.

But sometimes you'll have outliers – you might want to do past threads, or some thread is going slow so you start another one, etc.

There's no "official" regulation of the timeline, so how you figure it out and govern it is ultimately up to you. :)

I appreciate the advice. Do you sometimes reference "past" (concurrent) threads/events, or do you typically try to stay vague or just not mention them at all?

Depends on the thread, really. Chaos is very freeform so it's really only up to your personal preference.

I do plenty of referencing myself, which makes sense when you've got multiple threads going with the same character. If it's uncertain how a thread will end, then I prefer to wait and see what'll happen – that, or stay vague, yeah.

[member="Tempest Ranger"] Keep a thread tracker. Use the timeline preference. You can easily label it what it is (like training or something in brackets). It helps me lots because I do tend to jump between my threads, they don't always go one after the other and we've often done past threads so I find organizing the thread trackers like that to be important to keep me on right order.
